      The peach hack works if they're fairly ripe. I use it to peel them when making jam. Make a cross on the bottom of the peach, boil for 1 minute then put in ice water for like 30 seconds and immediately peel. Works a charm for us.

      My mom taught me an easier way how to peel garlics. Idk if you have already included this in your previous kitchen hack (the last one I watched was part 3, looks like I'm going to have a barryton tonight). The hack is simple. You need to soak your garlics in a basin/bowl of water for at least half an hour. I advise you to peel off the outer skin before soaking it, if you leave it the inside of the garlic is still dry despite it's wet on the outside. Once you already soaked them for a while, from the bottom of the garlic, you can easily peel off the skin like peeling off a banana. I hope you could give this kitchen hack a try since it helped with this mundane task

      @@LiterallyAllNamesAreTaken in the case of nectarines, yes, you are right, but cross-breeding different plants is a thing. People have been grafting since biblical times. Cross-pollination is a different method of cross-breeding. There are other ways as well.

    • @brianargo4595
      @brianargo4595 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You literally do. The same genus of plants can be bred together, just like the same genus of dog (corn has been turned from a hard stubby grain to a big juicy ear and wolves have been turned into teacup poodles. And both can be bred together. Just not with each other. Unless crispr.)

    • @Dancingpinata-
      @Dancingpinata- 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Phankitty Wouldn't pluots be considered "crossbred" then? They're plums and apricots bred together!
      Also, from a technical standpoint, all citrus fruits are derived from the original, ancestral citrus fruits: citron, pomelo, mandarin, papedas, and kumquats. Lemons and limes (for example) are hybrids of multiple of these, versus the tangerine which is derived from only one (a subset of mandarins). The orange is also a hybrid, derived from crossbreeding pomelos and mandarins to be in its modern form. We've been hybridizing fruits, and other plants, for a very long time with citrus plants being a very well documented category!
      If you like the subject its very interesting to read about!

    Soooo...you could have just thrown those tomatoes (with the x) into the boiling water for 60 seconds, then put them immediately into the ice bath. The skins will start falling off almost immediately. I can attest to how well this works...I make a lot of pasta sauce every year and I don't have a mill so it makes my job a lot easier 😁

    More hacks, pineapple should be yellow on the bottom light green/yellow on top, not mushy. A pineapple will not ripen once picked.Think a more ripe pine would break apart better. ( ours look like your in the states😕). The smoother the skin of a orange the juicier. The more broken lines on a watermelon the riper sweeter.

    A good trick to test if pineapples are ripe is to try and pluck out one of the leaves from the top. They should come out easily when the pineapple is ripe.
    Love the video!!

    Regarding the peach
    Slice an "x" in the non stem and and drop it in boiling water for a minute. Then plunge into ice water for a minute. The skin will slide off. Same with the tomato

    "Careful kids. When you come in don't make any wind." And after 3 hours of trying to get the orange to light. "Pff". One blow and I was rolling on the floor laughing.

    When I’m canning peaches I blanch (drop into boiling water) for a minute, then into ice bath. No worries. Do the same with tomatoes. Has to be at rolling boil.

    a biggermesh would work, I use a slotted spoon to seperate eggwhite and yolk.And NEVER squeeze fruit in the super they just bruise and feel soft, not ripe...smell rather than squeezing..i do not want bruised fruit cos people in front of me think that's the way too tell...it's not;-)

    Your poor wife, you forced her to make an avocado joke but I got it. Sadly I'm a 26 year old who doesn't have kids and makes horrible dad jokes so I actually got it, it was he doesn't have a motorbike but he has a car though. I really hate you right now Barry for making me explain that joke, such a horrible pun!

    I grow pineapples here in Florida . your's were not quite ripe enough yet . They ripen from bottom to top . They get lighter as they go . A hack to ripen them faster is to take a half ripe one ( bottom lighter ) , Cut off the top and turn the pineapple upside down for a few days . it will start to ripen the other way from top to bottom .

    A Pineapple is ripe when the leaves are green and healthy the pineapple is green and yellow the eyes are developed and not wrinkly and the stem smells sweet. You can also look for little red crosses on the eyes on some varieties. If the pineapple smells fermented it is bad also avoid a pineapple that is leaking looks dry or has mold growing on it.

    The pineapple thing only works in one specific variety that was developed here in Brazil by Embrapa. Its called Gomo de Mel (something like Honey bud)
