I Traded My M60B44 BMW E31 840i for a Project E34 540i/6 and a Totaled 535i

- I know it might sound crazy but I traded my recently built M60B44 stroker BMW e31 840i for 2 E34s. One happens to be a totaled 535i and the other a HE53 540i/6 that has certainly seen better days. In this video we take a look at our new E34s! Am I crazy or do you guys see potential?

As an ancient owner of a 1600 to E38 and almost all in between, my M5 E34 chipped blew away my 540i 6 speed. Still my favorite cross country rocket was my E32 3,5 Alpina motor. with the fully lowered suspension. High speed runs at dawn on empty isolated Canadian highways was even more enjoyable than the busy autobahn runs. Cruise controls works at 240 KPH or 150 MPH!

Man the more I watch the more I can relate to you. Especially being stagnant with cars you don’t like, even if getting out of it requires a lot of work or even a loss. The knowledge you’ve gained from teaching yourself these skills is worth so much more than being stuck with cars you don’t want. Glad to see you back with e34s

You did your thing with the E31. You weren’t into it, it was a done project, and it wasn’t moving. You found a deal that got you back into your comfort zone - nothing wrong with that. Looks like there’s plenty of content in these two cars so as long as you’re happy with the deal i say it’s a win. Looking forward to more E34 content!

bruh i was like 🤏this close to buying that m60b44 e31 off marketplace. i had to have a black one though. she’s currently in transit and should be in late today/early tomorrow

As an E34 540 auto owner, I am really looking forward to this series! Would love to one day upgrade to a HE53, but they are quite expensive here in Australia, as only 75 were sold here. Although they all came highly optioned with EDC, throwing stars, sports seats and M tech body kit.

Im really surprised the e31 didnt have any bites. I feel like if it had a black interior it would have been gone instantly. They tend to not last for sale with good maintenance like yours (From what i see).
Was a cool car for sure though. Loved that series.
I am just as surprised. Priced very fair, fresh engine, but just not a soul. I really dont know. Maybe it was white on light grey interior that did it
Do the cosmetics, paint the custom front spoiler, detail the paint and interior , change all the trims, address the all exterior lights, do some general PM on the b40 and Icing on the cake and critical factor will 100% be the wheels you put on this thing!!!!

love the e34. I had a 540/6 as well, if i remember correctly I swapped the rear diff for a 750 (e32) unit to obtain a better ratio and a better diff. Made it a lot quicker
Yeah my old b40 5 speed had an auto ratio diff and it was a rocket
Great deal bro. That's more you and yes, we love some E34 maintenance. That's the reason Im here and I also learned a lot of stuff I didnt knoe about older BMW'S that I also liked. Hope to see some 2002 maintenance in the future. Maybe with a M50 swap? That could be awesome 2002, M50, turbo? Let me stop dreaming.

Btw had a quick question I’m looking into doing Brake lines and Fuel lines on our e34 525, are you able to do a video on doing those lines if your able to of course. Hey Josh loved the video, I wanted to ask you since you are like me an e34 junkie, what motor do you prefer personally the m50 motor in the 525, or the m30 motor in the 535?

Hmmmm I really do love both. M30 is a bit more ancient feeling and temperamental, but a little more torquey feeling. But M50 is smooth and modern feeling. Out the gate with a 5 speed M30 might be a bit more fun
Keep the 540 in the fleet don’t sell it mann, or maybe do a good little series lowering it and putting some wheels on it

Anybody who's driven both will agree that E34 > E31 as far as the driving experience. The E31 is a luxury coupe, not a sports car, so even with a manual transmission they're not a particularly engaging driving experience. Combine that with a relative lack of parts and you can see why E31's aren't all that popular with enthusiasts, they're more of a pretty collectible car.

The 840i is a rare and beautiful car. The other two are utter garbage, with absolutelly nothing special. You got scammed 😅😅😅😅
The 840i may be rare, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Cars have faces and physiques, just as humans do, and the E34 (and E39) have classic, handsome, instantly-recognizable faces and muscular, purpose-driven bodies. They're the Sean Connery of cars. The face of the E31 reminds me of the once-striking actress who, aging and losing roles, has plastic surgery and becomes a grotesque, barely recognizable charicature of beauty she once was. The E39 (such as my 540iT) and the E34 are brilliantly-done studies in proportion and the form-follows-function tenet that guided BMW for years, until the suits pushed the car nuts out of the C-suite and, placing sales figures over durability, began making disposable BMWs...
