No one is Going to take Rush`s crown, I was merely saying that in my opinion they were the nearest of the modern bands to play in the same genre and attempt similar levels of complexity albeit with five band members. There lies Rush`s genius, to make that music with just three people. I`ve seen both bands live many times and they are both amazing. I don't believe in rating music, its not a sport. If something makes you happy then its good.

Most of this album, "Images and Words" is gold. "Another Day" could have been a radio hit (but somehow wasn't), "Surrounded" has one of the best build ups and releases in all of music, and "Metropolis" is so good it got a whole album as its sequel. "Leaning to Live" is also great. Again, just... the whole album is gold.
And the rest of their catalogue has gems like "Hollow years," "The Glass Prison," "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence" (It's 40 minutes long; you probably don't want to do that monster here), "Home," "The Count of Tuscany," "Change of Seasons," "Mirror/Lie," and about half of the rest of their discography. So much great stuff.

Awww yeah! This is the song that got me into Dream Theater many years ago. I had bought a drum set (so I could play Metallica covers all day) and it came with an instructional VHS tape. Portnoy was one of the three guys on there and I knew he was the best one. He played a riff from this song so I immediately grabbed the album and became obsessed.

Great job. This has always been a favorite from Dream Theater. Mike Portnoy is the extension of Niel Peart

A local club back in the 90's used to play Images and Words between bands. It was awesome with the amps turned up to 10. That is still one of my favorite albums. I like the sound and it brings back a lot of memories with friends before everyone got busy and married.....

Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band formed in 1985 under the name Majesty by John Petrucci [Guitar] , John Myung [Bass] and Mike Portnoy [Drums] while they attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. ✌🤘

You're right Jamal! Images&Words it's all about waving hair and "dididi-di-di-didididi" and that's why we love it.

JP is probably the greatest guitar player ever. The leads are incredible and his riffs are insane too. Not to mention the countless shredders who have taken his master classes sparking a generation of influence.

Welcome to Dream Theater. They are not always the easiest band to get into, especially upon first glance, but they are well worth the effort. Here are some songs that I have come to love from them:
    Learning to Live
    Home
    Pull Me Under
    In the Name of God
    On the Backs of Angels
    Metropolis Part 1
    Peruvian Skies
    As I Am
And if you really want to get into epic DT, Octavarium, Count of Tuscany and Change of Seasons are worth checking out, although each of those songs are at least 20 minutes long.

You did indeed react to them live a few months ago, you did "Instrumedley" from the Live at Budokan gig. The whole concert was EPIC, right from the starting bass riff of "As I Am", followed by This Dying Soul" (you reacted to the studio version and your face was melted off) and "Beyond This Life", and ending in the ballad "Hollow Years", which contains arguably the best guitar solo ever by John Petrucci. The rest of the concert was amazing, but I always go back to those first four songs as the perfect way to start a concert...

Thanks for the musical education. I am 60 years old and kind of stick to the old stuff so I don't get out musically speaking so it's nice to be able to find stuff I've never heard.

try Pull Me Under (studio version) you will not be disappointed. Dream Theater has been at it for over 30 years and still going strong. The musicianship is off the chart great.

YES YES YES!!! One of my favorite DT songs. Welcome to the greatest band ever! Deep rabbit hole. I’ve loved this band for 30 years. Our wedding song was from this album and that band remained the soundtrack of our lives. Mike Portnoy is my favorite drummer of all time. Check out the entire Album Metropolis Scenes From A Memory. Listen to it in its entirety. I promise it’s a roller coaster ride that will have your emotions all over the place. It’s a masterpiece 😎🤘🏼
