The biggest problem in Harumi's "redemption" is that it wasn't a redemption at all. She didn't "become good". She didn't see the error of her ways, she didn't let go of all the hate and resentment she harbored. She kinda just realized she's been fighting the wrong guy...

Felt the writing was odd in Part 2. Lloyd says to Harumi that he’d rather see the good in people. He wants to forgive Harumi, despite her manipulating him multiple times.
Yet he didn’t seem to want to see the good in Garmadon, the one who helped the team defeat the Oni the last time they saw each other, and was also helping with saving Ninjago from the Overlord.

Episode 20 SHOULD have been this: Lloyd has doubts, but suddenly, he starts to wonder if the current Garmadon he sees in front of him is Sensei Garmadon or at least the Lord Garmadon from the 1st two seasons.

I couldn't help but agree with literally every point made in this video. I really was not looking forward to that Harumi "redemption" arc and was seriously hoping that Lloyd would learn to overcome what she put him through. The writers even elaborated in season 13 that he was still dealing with trust issues after what she's done to him and not even three seasons later he's like "Oh, I kNoW yOu HuRt Me bUt ThErE's GoOd iN eVeRyBoDy!" Like, where is that willingness to forgive when he's face to face with his father whO LITERALLY HELPED HIM FIGHT THE ONI AND SAVE NINJAGO???

I have a weird relationship with this season. The first 2/3 of this season was great. However, it falls off after that. While there were still some things I liked such as the "jump up kick back whip around and spin" and seeing everyone rebuild the monastery, there are several missed opportunities, the Garmadon and Lloyd stuff felt like a rehash of season 10 until the very end, and the way it feels like they didn't finish watching MotM is pathetic.

I just realized, in season 9 Garmadon said to Lloyd "people don't change, they only reveal who they truly are".
That could explain why he doesn't believe Garmadon can change, but Harumi can, because he believes that she is truly good in her heart

    • @lucyanderson9064
      @lucyanderson9064 2 ปีที่แล้ว +30

Lloyd wrongly believes she is good in her heart. She demonstrates nothing to back that up, ever. Unlike Garmadon, who IS good at heart, and was good until he was cursed, which even then, he still was, as he loved his family, and that was actually his only reason for wanting to make ninjago in his image in the first place. His motives were love, and loss, and he was cursed. Harumi's motives were just plain evil, and she was not cursed. She chose it. Garmadon had no choice. He gave up his life for everyone. Then he had no choice when Harumi brought him back like a frankenstein monster. Garmadon only said that, because at the time he lacked the self awareness that he later gained. Again, Harumi is to blame for all this. Garmadon wasn't changing, he was reverting back to his true self. The writers really messed all this up. They lacked logic, and they lacked morality. We believe actions, not words. Garmadon says lots of stuff he doesn't really mean, as he doesn't like feeling vulnerable. Harumi never should have been redeemed, and neither Lloyd, nor Garmadon should like her.

    • @The_Christian_Kirbo
      @The_Christian_Kirbo ปีที่แล้ว +8

Yea. One of my only problems with the Crystal King, is how he was defeated, just a slap from the dragon's tail, like cmon, that's incredibly lame compared to the other 2 times. An easy solution on how to fix that, is making the powers that go into Lloyd, not create a dragon from nowhere, and instead grant him his golden powers back, which would be a very good tie-in with season 2, in which that happened but a little differently.

  • @foxywoxy0w068
    @foxywoxy0w068 2 ปีที่แล้ว +172

Honestly in my opinion, Crystalized is one of those seasons with a great beginning, decent middle and a horrendous ending, it was definitely great right up until Episode 18-19 where it started going downhill severely. The season definitely has it good parts such as:
    - How Harumi came back
    - The Overlord returning and the reveal that he was responsible for Garmadon turning evil (that part I didn't expect at all).
    - The entirety of Part 1
    - Connecting the previous seasons to The Council of the Crystal King
    - Pythor in general
However it did have a lot of bad parts:
    - Lloyd acting like a dick to Garmadon yet straight up forgiving Harumi immediately (when previously we've seen him having trust issues as a result of her), which ends up giving a wrong message.
    - The Mechanic and Nya scene, wtf were they thinking with this scene? That should not have been a thing.
    - Nostalgia bait with the scenes being similar to previous parts of the show (i.e. The Ninja getting arrested is similar to Skybound, Overlord VS Lloyd being the end of Season 2)
    - Harumi's Redemption as a whole.
    - Lack of consequences for anyone (I know its a kids show but that doesn't excuse having zero consequences, even the previous seasons had consequences to them).
    - Lack of foreshadowing on the Overlords return
    - Lloyds Oni Arc
    - LEGO's awful scheduling which I don't think helped at all
Personally, I think Crystalized should have been saved later down the line instead of being the immediate season after Seabound. Season 15 could instead be focused on the Ninja recovering from Nya's sacrifice, how they're grieving in their own ways, the conflict between them and eventually them choosing to move on with the message being "Bad things will happen, but don't let it overshadow the good".
The whole season could be a Kai and Jay season with conflict being the major theme between them, kind of like a Civil war sort of thing. Heck, this could be taken advantage of with the introduction of a new villain created entirely on the collective grief of the Ninja, maybe forming a physical form like a Shadow Nya of sorts that could manipulate them. Perhaps bringing back Nadakhan as he's been hinted at multiple times now and is the most connected to Jay and Nya as a whole. Alternatively, there could be no main villain at all.
How the season will end could be that on the happy side, the Ninja slowly realise what their grief is doing to them and decide not to let it take over them as Nya wouldn't want that and instead would want them to move on. On the opposite spectrum, the ending could an unhappy one with the Ninja unable to accept their grief and because of the conflict between them outright fracturing their friendship, they instead go their separate ways leading to the events of the beginning of Crystalized (still set one year after the season).
The season overall can be a great way to really inflict dark stuff into it whilst also giving out a positive message, especially to those who also sadly lost loved ones as well.

Also the fact that Garmadon's disappearance wasnt like in the comics about Garmadon's adventures during his absence, and instead we see a different backstory, which is stupid, short and boring, and all based in Ninjago city, oh wow thats where he was the whole time, how anticlimactic. I did like his oni form though, it did great justice to his last one.
Also thats just my silly fan idea, but Crystalized could have been something more, with longer mins of episodes of course, something like the Overlord returning and recruiting more villains (except Garmadon, but actually giving him a choice to join), but his form could have been like the one in his origin story with his battle against FSM, a giant and powerful dark figure that conquered ninjago (then of course switching to a form similar to the one we've got) and the whole season is about the ninjas fighting and surviving in a dark utopia while the Overlord, his servants and the brainwashed poor locals are after them. And of course, more screen time for the Overlord. I could write more about this concept, but I think it would've been fun, but thats just my stupid fangirl idea. Crystalized could have been written better though.

The sad thing about all of these points is that its not like the things that took place in the season COULDN'T happen, but the way they were excecuted made it look like the writers had *no time* (that or chose not to prioritize the important things, making their debut feel off)
A prime example of this would be Harumi's "redemption" arc. I'd believe her having so called "feelings" for Lloyd if she actually showed it instead of the writers telling us randomly (isn't show don't tell like, the #1 rule in writing?) I'd believe her wanting to change her ways if she showed conviction instead of smiling proudly when the Crystal King's plans are in motion. It's like the writers were simply using her as a means of conflict ONLY, then at the last minute to build up as much drama as possible for the last episode they go "hey, what if Harumi fought with the good guys?" And they didn't think of how that would look on her overall development :/
it's a kiDs ShOw tho, so no one is actually paying attention to that stuff, right? 🤦

Tommy Anderson hates Kai so despite all the growing and character development in seasons 1-4, his character was reduced to "oh dumb hot head who just wants power" when his character is so much more in the early seasons. Not even mentioning the nya disappearing situation, like this guy had to RAISE his sister since he was F I V E. Nanny or not there should've been moments where the nanny wasnt there and the two had to survive on their own no? This guy had to be a parent to his sister therefore losing his own childhood in the process AND ALL WE GET IS A SUBPAR FIGHT SCENE, MEANINGLESS LINES HERE AND THERE, AND WHEN HE FINALLY GETS HER BACK KAI DOESNT EVEN GET TO HUG HER??

Here are the changes I would make for Crystalized. Instead of Aspheera taking Nya’s powers it’s Skylor. I mentioned that another video. The ninja still go to jail but they meet Harumi in jail and not Pythor. In this version of Crystalized the first Spinjitzu master noticed how she saved the kid and his parents. The first Spinjitzu master tells Harumi about the Crystal King and how he’s going to destroy Ninjago. He offers Harumi a second chance to warn Lloyd and the other ninja. She accepts it and goes off to warn the ninja. After awhile she gets caught by the police. Lloyd thinks she might be telling the truth. The others however don’t believe her. I forgot to mention that the teapot that Nadakhan is trapped inside will be acquired by Pythor who is currently unknowingly working with the Crystal King at this point in time. Just like in Rebooted Pythor would be wearing some sort of robe and mask. He will also tell Lloyd the same thing that Harumi told him in the actual show. After that Lloyd tells the others about the the masked stranger. The others then realized that Harumi was telling the truth. Pythor still in his disguise finds the teapot that Nadakhan is trapped in and releases him and asks him if wants to join the Crystal King. Lloyd notices this and recognizes him as the evil djinn Jay and Nya told him about. The episode then ends like how it did in the actual show. Nya breaks the ninja out prison also taking Harumi with them. Lloyd pretends he is the mechanic and finds out Pythor is the vengestone buyer and working with the Crystal King who is really the Overlord. It then goes off there.

The beginning of the season was just a retread of the ninja splitting up in Tournament of Elements. They should have shown the ninja remaining intact (considering all they've been through), and we should have seen how the team managed without Nya, especially Kai and Jay. At least in tournament of elements, the ninja did experience their first major loss and were taking some time off to grieve, but in Crystalized, they had completely disappeared from public view even though they were literally Ninjago's defenders. Seems uncharacteristic of the ninja to do that (especially Lloyd) after all they'd been through in the Oni Trilogy. The whole prison arc and new ninja subplot should have never been included, and if they were bringing Nya back, just make it a quick thing where her powers are taken from her, and don't drag it on for several episodes.

It seems wild that the ninja would not only split up but completely withdraw from public life and just hide out for over a year. If anything, Nya's sacrifice should have motivated the team to work harder to prevent threats. The whole new ninja subplot and prison arc could be completely removed and the season would barely change (although now it will have much more time to develop characters like Garmadon and the villains).

A little thing about the pythor and great devourer thing.
I think the reason why pythor didn't start talking about how he released the great devourer might have been because of the result. It would be pretry embarrassing to tell someone that you released a great evil only to be eaten 5 seconds later. He could have also gotten some basic knowledge about Harumi's backstory and decided to keep his mouth shut. Also Harumi seems to be playing a blaming game because Lloyd was the one that released pythor and also called himself the so called hero. She sided with the overlord because she was going to bring peace in the dark which could have made her view him as a hero. This would obviously disappoint her when she learns that he created the creature that would ruin her life. This means that if it wasn't for the overlord then Lloyd would have never been releasing the serpentine and pythor obviously wouldn't release the great devourer making all the blame come back on the overlord.
Sorry If a lot of this didn't make any sense but I hope you get the basic idea

    • @yeboxxx_channel_2505
      @yeboxxx_channel_2505 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yeah and I think Pythor being eaten alive 15 seconds after releasing the Great Devourer was planned by Overlord.
Overlord created Great Devourer and could theoretically control him.
      I mean, think about it.
Pythor did everything he wanted to accomplish in less than several weeks in season 1. Except if it went that way, Pythor would be peaceful again, which wasn't good if Great Devourer was defeated, because it would left noone to do the bidding of evil..
If Pythor wasn't eaten, this is the result:
      1. Garmaddon couldn't take over the snake tribe to find the Island where Overlord was kept
      2. Scales couldn't become the leader to pacify the snakes, but snakes would still be pacified afterwards.
Pythor's lore was probably not that overused or bad.
It depicts fear of betrayal, resulting in you doing the betrayal first.
Which had unknowing consequences for both sides.
Existence purely hates Pythor, doesn't it?

  • @gigikju9934
    @gigikju9934 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

Alright, hear me out, here’s how I’d personally handle Crystalized part two: (well, this isn’t the full list, but there are many things that I still have no idea what to do with like Kai and Jay’s grieving)
    -first of all: Harumi.
As many have already pointed out, her “selfless act” that led to her redemption was completely useless. Not only did it contribute little to nothing to the Overlord’s defeat, but the reason behind it was dumb…what happened to the whole “balance” analogy? And besides, she already knew that millions would die and suffer, but only seemed to care when her parents were brought up. We get it, the overlord possessed the snake, but technically:
    1. He did not directly kill her parents. It was collateral damage.
    2. Lloyd still released the serpentine, which released the devourer. And besides, what about Pythor? How come he doesn’t get the blame for it?
    So here’s what I’d do:
Have Harumi attack the overlord in a fit of rage, until she processes his words and freezes. She’s eventually st*bbed in the back (haha, irony) by a crystal and OFFICIALLY is unalived. We get a scene with her in the departed realm saying hello to her parents, and how she regrets what she’s done (she released the overlord in the first place, and caused the damage). She apologizes directly to the people she k*lled, turns into a kid, and is led to a bright light while holding her parents hands.
Maybe it was any time left, I’d squeeze in a scene where Garmadon and Lloyd talk about it? (Or even better, MISAKO and Lloyd, since she’s been through something slightly similar)
    -The Ice Emperor
    Hear me out:
What if instead of Zane getting hurt during a random crash, he accidentally switches to the ice emperor as a self defence thing when he gets attacked. When he looks at his hands, he gets scared and deactivates. And at that exact moment, Mr. F shows up and absolutely wrecks him with his own vengestone beast thing. This way, we ACTUALLY get to see the ice emperor’s OG powers for a while (and a reasonable explanation as to why he randomly “returns” when Pixal finds him)
    -“Compatible”
Ok, I actually really liked this episode, but I wasn’t the biggest fan of the cliche “true love kiss” thing that brought Zane back, so here’s how I’d change it:
When Borg explains what’s wrong with him, Pixal offers to bring him back…manually.
So she goes inside his head and tries to “find him” so he can “wake up”. (While all this is happening, FugiDove, Ronin, Ultra, and Killow talk about their future and decide to open a food truck when all this is done or something))
She ends up finding him, but he’s asleep and isn’t waking up. She goes back and says her goodbyes (except this time, it’s in Zane’s POV as he slowly tries to wake himself up) and it pretty much ends the same way. Still an annoying fake oi character death, but with a slightly better explanation…I think…
Edit: UPDATE: I FOUND A BETTER WAY TO DO IT.
So inside Zane’s head, Pixal finds the tin can getting beat up by the ice emperor as random memories flash on the screen. Basically, it’s symbolism as to how he believed that the ice emperor defined him and that his mistakes overpowered every positive thing he did.
After Pixal’s lil speech, Zane realizes that if the person he loves most can still love him back after seeing the worse side of him, than he can still love himself, which is how he wins the fight.
    -Nya
I feel like her “slowly getting her powers back” kinda sucked…like, it took away the consequences and it didn’t sit right with me.
So hear me out: what if her powers are still there, but the more she uses them the closer she gets to merging again? So instead, she calls Nyad, and she agrees to help? That way Nya’s powers wouldn’t have to randomly return without a price.
    -Wu and the Overlord
The overlord’s unalivement didn’t make a lot of sense to me, ngl. Like, shouldn’t there have to be some consequence for “ruining the balance”? He physically cannot perish as long as creation still exists…
But what if the master of creation were to be unalived too?
As Lloyd’s dragon gets weaker, Wu is forced to come to his aid to strengthen it. However, this requires him using his full strength which ends up oofing him in the process. His last words could be something like “I promise I’d stand up to you (overlord) to my last breath. I’m willing to keep that promise.”
Instead of the Ninja talking abo it their powers in the end, we get a “funeral” for Wu.
In the end, as they’re rebuilding the monastery, we get a shot of pretty much every fallen ally from Dr Julien, to Morro, to Mystake in the Monastery rooftop, looking down on the Ninja and their current allies. Eventually, we find Wu (besides the FSM) as he says “remarkable. Quite Remarkable.”
Other than that, I’d definitely leave the final battle alone. The whole point of this battle is the fact that it’s supposed to be the ACTUAL final battle that Quantin predicted and that has been a thing since season 1. Having it be similar to the season 2 finale sounds fitting. (…but it’d be really awesome if the dragon turned into a sword and Lloyd used it to attack the overlord)

Wow that’s alot better than what we got when I was watching compatible I was scared for zane and pixal I thought one of them would sacrifice themselves but through the power of love a robot wakes up like pixals speech brought me to tears how did zane even wake up he’s a robot
Okay the final battle was a bit underwhelming after motm and seabound I was expecting Lloyd to have an epic fight scene where he realises that he can’t run away from his heritage but he can change and he merges his oni and dragon side to destroy the overlord but we ended up getting dragon go brrrrrrr

Even though I disagree with most of your points, I find it genuinely admirable how much work you've clearly put in to this video. At the end of the day it just really sucks that a season this important has disappointed so many people - and I just hope it doesn't ruin their enjoyment of the rest of the show.
Personally, I really liked Crystallized. It's certainly not without flaws - I really dislike Harumi getting off with seemingly no consequences, and while I'm fine with how Oni Lloyd was handled, I think it definitely should've been conveyed more clearly - but I think this season has some incredible high points, and is reasonably consistent in its quality.
The thing that really hurt this season was the abysmal release schedule. Splitting the season into 2 parts is fine, but everything else related to its distribution was hilariously bad. The worst thing to come out of this was the insane, unrealistic hype that built up. We knew vaguely what was going to happen, so everyone just worked themselves up into anticipating the craziest possible version of that event. Of course I'm not trying to say that we shouldn't have had high expectations, or that it's your fault you didn't like it, but I do think a lot of people were inevitably going to be disappointed no matter what due to the nature of internet hype culture.
Splitting the season in 2 also caused a lot of people to look at it as 2 separate installments, despite that fact that it was written and produced as one story. I strongly recommend anyone who is conflicted about the ending to re-watch the entire season from start to finish. The season's main themes are established in its early episodes, and are obviously pertinent to the finale.
One of the season's two main themes is not giving in to anger and seeking revenge. Conceptually, this is somewhat contradictory to its other theme (listening to your emotions rather than closing them off), but I think they are linked by season's focus on the idea of balance; listen to your emotions, but don't let them consume you. This is what I think they were getting at with the ending for Lloyd's Oni form, but I think Garmadon's reaction to that ideally should've made it clearer.
Anyway, sorry for the super long comment lmao, I have a loooooot to say about Crystallized.

I’m sort of worried about how the aftermath of Crystalized’s ending will be playing out. Knowing all of the inconsistencies in this video I can tell that this is going to end up like Total Drama Allstars’ “Sundae Muddy Sundae” or Spongebob’s “Are you happy now”. I’ve sort of liked Crystalized and was happy that the Ninja, Wu or Garmadon weren’t killed. But knowing the cost of it….wow. I don’t know where the Ninjago community or Fandom will go from here, but trust me, I’m more than happy to fix these inconsistencies.

This is a fantastic analysis. Overall I actually loved the season but still acknowledge it’s many flaws. Having written my own complete season of Ninjago, I understand the luxury of having complete control of your story. The vision I had in mind would not have been as well realized if I had to doll it out to five other writers.

If I had rewrite crystalized, I would've had pythor play a much bigger role and maybe rise above the ranks of the other crystal generals to be the Overlord's second in command (mostly considering he's the only pre-oni trilogy villain in the season) which would be through Harumi finding out that Pythor was responsible for releasing the great devour and wanting to kill him only to be stopped by the overlord cause he finds him useful.

Most of my issues in the season mainly come down to Lloyd, which sucks because hes my second favourite ninja after Cole and hes been consistently great after the movie. He makes characters like Garmadon and Harumi worse because of how closely tied he is to them here which stinks because I actually like those characters here. He's out of character in the season in like 4 different ways and it really hurts the season and his arc

Great analysis. I agree with almost all of your points here.
I'd like to add that I think this season suffers from being a toy advertisement so much. The Tug-O'-War you've mentioned is definitely apparent in the toy aspect as well. Things like the Dragon Forms, Oni Lloyd, Crystal King Centaur, and more just felt like excuses to make cool minifigures and sets. Usually, the toys are very well integrated, and even when they're not, it doesn't take away from the plot. It feels like the designers felt they had to produce a big wave that the fans will be guaranteed to like to make up for Core. To do this, they include fan favorites like Pythor and Harumi, give us super detailed minifigures, Oni Garmadon, and sets that try to push the limits on standards, like including copious amounts of gold and translucent pieces. As much as I love Core as a wave, I really have to wonder if it was one of the reasons for Crystalized feeling so bloated.

    • @Crusty783
      @Crusty783  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Im pretty sure Core was made in order to give the Crystalized show/sets more time also, I remember hearing something like that a few months back (can't remember where from)
But yeah it feels like this wave/season was just tryna throw as much recognisable stuff in your face as possible (and then they forgot to write a story)

This season was just such a disappointing ending to the series. Originally I wanted them to bring back nadakhan this season because they have been teasing him coming back since season 11 but now I’m really glad they didn’t bring him back because they would’ve just messed that up to. Anyway I think this season would’ve been much better if they got rid of every member of the Crystal council except for Pythor. The story would just be about Pythor helping the overlord and every other villain including Harumi would not even be in the story because they don’t do anything and in Harumis case they completely ruined her character

Idea for what could have been Harumis motivation. Instead of her being evil again, how about if she was on the good side, but lost all hope of the overlord being ever defeated and serves him because of this. The turning people into Zombies part could then be justified by saying that the overlord only destroys those who aren't under his direct controll, so that the only way to save them is turning them into zombies.

This season was too over-hyped and *is* overrated. I enjoyed it for the call backs to past seasons, fight scenes, and some parts of the plot. But I thought at one point they said there were gonna be flashbacks before season 11, and we only got like 2. So that part was disappointing, along with the fact that Kai is still horribly written and Jay is a selfish idiotic kid that never learns anything, after season 8. Also, if I recall, Zane turned off his emotion meter and when he turned it on he started screaming like a girl or something, but in past death scenes, he was never heavily impacted by their death to result to turning off his emotions.
That just annoyed me, and if I also recall, that went nowhere. And Cole was basically useless this season. And I like how nobody is cringing about the friendship gimmick they did at the end, but in other shows they complain about it. Although it was a missed opportunity to make a cameo with the 2 skeleton guys and the skeleton army.
Also if this is a callback to past seasons, why didn't they even at the slightest reference: The Tornado of Creation, (defeated the Oni, Garmadon said the Oni can defeat the Overlord, if they use the Tornado of Creation, they win.) Elemental Dragons, (that is a way to counter the Crystal Council's Dragons.) Airjitzu, (They can fly directly upwards, would've been a helpful tool at some scenes.) Spinjitzu Burst (Cole could've done that to the Crystal Council, easily take the W)
The Dragon Forms were unnecessarily pointless, as the Ninja got crystalized, and the Crystal Council was never seen "defeated".
Although the Dragon Forms looked cool, they didn't really do much besides summon a Dragon, (although I expected the Ultra Weapon to return for some reason). That also got me thinking, to why the Ninja can't just fly up there to help Lloyd fight the Overlord, since their powers were able to defeat him.
Wasn't the prophecy that Lloyd was supposed to unlock his full potential via Golden Lloyd, and to defeat the Overlord?
Oni Lloyd was one of the reasons people wanted to watch crystalized. Personally, I wasn't a big fan of the Oni, so I never wanted to see much of the Oni Lloyd. Welp I lucked out on that one, seeing that he got 3 seconds of screentime after a whole 18 episodes of build up. And it was executed so horribly, Lloyd was actually dumb to believe Garmadon died, as in this new Garmadons season, there was a specific detail that Lloyd knew to defeat Garmadon. Garmadon gets stronger the more powerful the fight is and the longer the fight is, but Overlord shot like 5 beams at him and although he faked his death, out of all people Lloyd should know that Garmadon should be alive.
Also if this was an end to the previous era of Ninjago, why didn't a single person from the Never Realm return? The only reference we got out of it, was the Ice Emperor "returning" and it was just a facial glitch because Zane broke *again*
*Overall this season was an overrated mess.*
    EDIT:
I forgot to talk about 2 more things:
-The New Ninja could've been less annoying.
-Where in the universe were the Elemental Masters.
one last thing was how bad the villains were. People expected Mr. F to get a backstory, to be Echo Zane and to have some cool scenes. But Mr. F really stands for "Mr. F you, we do whatever we want." At least that's what the producers think it means.and we don't even know where he came from and how he's alive. Or if it's just Mr Es data in a new model.
Idk why they hired Pythor out of all people and Pythor said at one point: "If someone's gonna rule the world, I'd rather it be me." Yeah thats self explanatory. If thats the case he should've just helped the Ninja.
The Skull Sorcerer and Aspheera didn't do much but shoot beams on top of dragons.
So the villains were pure garbage, and the Overlord just got rekt after the dragon spawned in. That goes to show you how OP Elemental Dragons would've been.

Half of the councils stories are finished already, such as pythor, vangelis, and aspheera. Then why bring them back you ask? Symbolic reasons, uses to the plot, the fact that most of them are pretty strong villains useful to the crystal king, there still in the show, etc. Mechanic doesnt need a story, how is his character ruined from a few lines? and mr f is technically a new character. "They did nothing new with the overlord" so every time you were starting to like the overlord because hes "fighting for peace" means nothing now? Man said he returned cause of vandalism. how about the constant wars and battles fought over time since season 3? Ghosts, pirates, gangsters, snakes, giant underwater snakes, skeletons, video game robots?
Kai and jay fought. It was a scuffle that was brought out if anger and shock, why must it be talked about after? Also they dont need to have anything done with them now that nya is back, besides interaction with her (yes I do agree she and kai needed more interaction, same with her parents). However nyas arc is not how you make it out to be. Shes more than just a "taxi for the ninja".
Everything she did in crystalized before regaining her powers, she created the new samuri x mech. Sure she got help building it by pixal, but she literally created the ideas for it. She saved the ninjas lives. She helped with Lloyd's escape. She informed everyone about harumi. She helped the ninja escape prison. And yet shes still "useless without her powers".
Lloyd's arc isnt him being mad at his father and loving harumi if that's what ur thinking. His true arc is him finally dealing with the fact that he himself is an oni, which is part of the reason why he hates garmadon this season. Look further in depth. This can be read many different ways. One way is that he truly doensnt believe oni are incapable of being good, and is simply just upset with his father because family issues. That or seeing his oni like father constantly reminds him of his greatest fear, becoming exactly like him, which is literally addressed in the season itself.
Harumi hasnt had her redemption arc yet. Her changing sides is clearly just the start. She clearly isnt "resolved of all sin" as we can clearly see shes under the watch of law enforcement at the end if the season, which Is confirmed to be intentional. What more needs to be said about how she believes that ending a war with one side winning brings peace? She believes if one side truly wins, only then can peace finally be achieved because then there should be no conflict under a world of tyrannical rule, which is literally just like season 9. About harumi having feelings for lloyd. People can change you know. And this case it can be in the oni trilogy. And if you look back at said trilogy theres alot to actually show that this is true. She wanted lloyd to join her, be by her side, since s8. She never wanted him dead. Her last moments in Hunted were spent looking into his eyes. Cryatalzed is most likely expanding from that. Harumi supposedly killing Lloyd's friends in the subway. You say lloyd has no problem forgiving harumi. Dude literally nearly killed her seconds after it happened, and later on threatened her. Then proceeded to hold her captive and take her prisoner. I can see why lloyd willing to "forgive" harumi and hating his father can be a problem coexisting, but like I said earlier, garmadon and lloyd have a much more personal conflict with each other and themselves than lloyd and harumi could ever have. This thing with garmadon and lloyd has been like this since the season 10. I bet you if harumi was revived in season 10, or simply never died in hunted and they went for the same goal, the same exact thing would occur. Lloyd tried changing garmadon in s9 and s10 and look where that got the two, lloyd almost dying and garmadon leaving him while hes seconds away from the departed realm. Alot of plot points on crystalized are merely expanding upon subtle plot points in the oni trilogy and you dont seem to see it. Which is why I ask of you to rewatch both the oni trilogy, then watch crystalized (open minded) right after and hopefully you will see what I'm talking about.
I'm sick and tired of hearing the stupid argument of lloyd giving harumi a chance is a bad message, when other kids shows, and even this show have done much worse and nobody complains about it. Steven universe for example. Galactic genocidal dictators are immidietly forgiven for their actions because they were sad, why? Cause the main protagonists believes they can change. So why is that a problem here? There are many villains in the show who were sought out to be "redeemed". Morro for example. Dude wanted to use the living embodiment of hell to kill the world because he was jealous of a teenager. Yet people consider him redeemed because he warned the ninja of another ghost villain. Ninjago isnt a show about messages, but even I'd there were any messages they wanted to send to children, who wouldnt even comprehend the depth of these concepts, it would be that people can change, or not everyone is completely lost.
I'm not saying crystalized is perfect. It has quite a few problems such as a many subtle errors, anticlimactic ending and unorginality. My biggest personal problems with it was the way harumi was handled after episode 22 and us being robbed of oni lloyd after so much build up. And you can hate it all you want, it's just I find alot of your reasoning to be very poor, and its clear you initially hated the season for its anticlimactic ending and harumis handled it (cause you were praising the season as it was airing untill the final 8 episodes or so) then you were just looking for new reasons to hate it.

What would be cool is if whoever wrote this show redid Crystalized. Just to make that season better.
What kinda stood out to me about Crystalized was that the Overlord had the will to surpass death to the point of holding on to dear life because of his hatred for creation. Otherwise, this season kinda just fell apart due to bad writing decisions. Frankly, I could've done a better job at writing for this season.

It's true about Nya. What they did to her character was so cruel and disgusting. I mean, even when she returned to her human state, she wasn't even given time to properly rejoin the team. (Only 10(?) seconds of screen time with Jay hugging Nya and a smiling Kay next to Jay (I was really hoping to see Kai's emotional reaction to the return of his OWN sister that he raised). Hey, really? I'm not even saying how they don’t say how they missed her a lot, but then they simply forget that they haven’t seen Nya for a year. The writers simply show this by the fact that the guys were just busy and had no time for her. But in season 4, Zane had the same situation, but throughout the season they showed how much they missed Zane even though they were busy surviving the tournament. And absolutely everyone on the team managed to say how much they miss him. But the worst part is that throughout the entire season, Nya has been the villain's punching bag. Was she just brought back to be a plot device for the prison arc and just for fan service? Throughout the season, you'll see her being humiliated and told (including by Nya herself) how useless she is without her powers? And what's more, she wasn't even a ninja and had absolutely no role even as Samurai X. Over the course of the series, she went from ninja ally, to Samurai X, to ninja, and everything else happened in one season. vice versa. She just became a minor character. While the other ninjas assisted in the fight against Overlord, she simply was “side character”revealing that she wasn’t a ninja (simply ruining her entire arc). And all she did was just regain her powers and use them to defeat the mechanic who said she was useless without her powers and she just proved him right by confirming it. How much do you have to dislike a character to do something so dirty to her? After this season I thought maybe Tommy Anderson really doesn't like Nya?

Some of the crystallized defenders will desperately defend this season and say that everything is essentially logical because "there are 4 weapons initially" and many other excuses, but I'm just saying that if they wanted, they could have given Nya so much more role and give her some development. I've seen a ton of fanfics with much better plots. And if the writers wanted, they could have done better with Nya’s character. Hell, they even turned Jay's grief towards Nya into a joke. I expected something much more emotional - that this topic would be given more attention, so little time was spent on such important things and so much time wasted on such stupid and useless things like the fake deaths, newspaper children and Lloyd constantly screaming Harumi.

a big issue in my opinion is how all of his soldiers look the EXACT same. in season 2 they at least had a few different ranks and positions in his army and they had an excuse to all look the same because of that and because they were statues. the overlord also just doesn’t feel like himself here , he’s so brutish and sluggish as opposed to his smart and deceitful demeanor in season 2. this season also suffers from the issue a lot of modern cartoons have with overpowered grunts , you don’t want grunts to just solely be throwaway cannon fodder but you also don’t want them to be so powerful they can individually take down groups of people. they overuse vengestone too much basically.

Honestly after rewatching Crystalized I kinda wished that Harumi had stayed dead in Hunted. I loved her character in SOG and hunted and her dying was a great end to her character. But crystalized had to bring her back and basically ruin her character. Like for me she’d be an S tier villain but crystalized brings that rank down. Also it’s kinda disappointing that there’s all this build up to Lloyd’s oni side only for it to show up for 15 seconds before never being mentioned again.

But Crystalized is a B-tier season for me along with SotFS due to rewatchability and meme potential. I rate it a 7.9/10. Not the best, but certainly not the worst imo.

13:58 it would have been awesome, if we saw the battle all over ninjago. people all across ninjago fighting for their home. different armies all battling against the Vengstone army.
another thing I would have loved. if harumi spent time on her own, spending time questioning or trying to justify her actions. And at the end, things are still tense but she is trying to be better. maybe like when she helped evacuated that family after seeing herself in them. or she confronts pythor over it.
that or make her remain evil. unable to let go of her rage and vengeance. people try to convince her but she's too blinded.

I agree with all of this video. I had many problems with Crystallized, such as bad pacing for the last 10 episodes and stuff like that, but my main problem was Harumi. I'm pretty sure Lloyd and Harumi are not together and may just be friends, acquaintances, or even just allies, but it still feels like they're setting up something between them which I dislike. Llorumi has had so many problems so I, personally, do not feel like it can ever be fully healthy unless the writers completely ignore everything that has happened between them, which is never a good thing.
I just hope that next season is not next-gen now because then there will probably be someone who is the child or descendant of Lloyd and Harumi due to not clarifying (bringing back or giving him a new one) any other love interests for Lloyd in Crystallized. They could have Lloyd single and find a love interest for him during whatever is happening with the next generation, but I feel like that is unlikely simply because of Harumi in Crystallized.
There are just so many things wrong with Llorumi that goes even farther than just being toxic. Such as Harumi dying of old age when Lloyd is still fairly young due to his oni blood and Garmadon technically adopting Harumi in Season 9, making them siblings (they even look related). I just don't think Llorumi works out and I hope they will not become cannon

It's why I can't help but comment that Harumi should have died, and if that happens, I would be happy, because in a way, the show is aware that trash should be taken out to the garbage. And in this case, the trash is the Llorumi ship.

The Overlord doesn't even feel like himself anymore.
In seasons 2 & 3 he felt extremely threatening and nearly untouchable. I remember being scared that the ninja will die if he merely looks at them and now Lloyd casually taunts Overlord and kicks him in the face during his very introduction!
The build up / conclusion to the Oni Form also feels like The Rise Of Skywalker.
"If you kill Palpatine, he'll take over your body!"
    *Rey kills Palpatine*
"If you beat the Overlord without Oni powers, he'll return eventually!"
    *Lloyd doesn't use Oni powers*
