Literally the only one that makes sense, because that’s what its style is. It’s a perfectionistic pop track. I’d dare say it’s in its purest form on the album, even though we do lose the tiny bit of Ocean trying too hard on stage to upstage everyone she uses as a prop.
The only good song on the cast recording is The Ballad of Jane Doe, mostly cause it's the only one that hasn't had unnecessary changes. the instrumental is tighter from being a stage recording and Emily Rohm is definitely more comfortable in the role. The other songs either had weird production, weird lyrical changes, weird vocal direction changes, or a combination of all three
absolutely 😭 the only ones i can bare to listen to are the ballad of jane doe and talia. it’s a shame because the songs are all so good but they butchered the cast recording production

Personally I enjoy the cast recording! Uranium Suite sounds really intense (arguably more intense than it sounds live), WTWN sounds fun, TSIA sounds slightly more like a real hip hop song, Scott Redmond absolutely KILLS SABM, and It's Just a Ride sounds so joyous! But I do agree it wasn't perfect. For example: - I love the key change and extra lyrics added to Sugar Cloud but during the final repeat of the chorus at 1:52, the instrumentation doesn't have the extra oomph that it does here. - Lillian's vocals aren't as powerful in the cast recording (but I don't really blame her for that) - The harmonies during the bridge at 1:25 sound kind of boring compared to the live version. These are just song-specific examples but I could give more examples if anyone interested. I just have a lot of thoughts about the cast recording XD I don't think it's bad by any means, but I won't deny that it's imperfect.

late reply oops but the cast recording is pretty bad imo. it takes away a lot of the things that make it fun, like at 1:52 in the cast recording it sounds a lot emptier because they removed so much of the backing sound. the only songs they didnt botch are talia and the ballad of jane doe 😭
It’s mostly that in a lot of the songs the backing vocals were really quiet and so a lot of the harmonies and the song climaxes weren’t as effective
Personally I enjoy the cast recording! Uranium Suite sounds really intense (arguably more intense than it sounds live), WTWN sounds fun, TSIA sounds slightly more like a real hip hop song, Scott Redmond absolutely KILLS SABM, and It's Just a Ride sounds so joyous! But I do agree it wasn't perfect.
For example:
- I love the key change and extra lyrics added to Sugar Cloud but during the final repeat of the chorus at 1:52, the instrumentation doesn't have the extra oomph that it does here.
- Lillian's vocals aren't as powerful in the cast recording (but I don't really blame her for that)
- The harmonies during the bridge at 1:25 sound kind of boring compared to the live version.
These are just song-specific examples but I could give more examples if anyone interested. I just have a lot of thoughts about the cast recording XD I don't think it's bad by any means, but I won't deny that it's imperfect.
