Someone has tripped the magical alarms in the Element Temple. When you and the other monks arrive on the scene, you know you have a disaster on your hands. Four young apprentices broke into the temple’s inner chamber to steal the sacred element crystals. But when the alarm went off they panicked, and each of them swallowed a crystal. Can you determine who ate which crystal? Alex Gendler shows how.

fun fact I initially assumed he was telling the truth (because not knowing what happened is extremely relatable) so when I started to solve the riddle on my own and I immediately got the right answer

This is my first time solving a TED riddle, pretty proud of myself, ngl. But looking back, I just wasted 20 minutes doing this instead of working...

@@gumbitoicic9977 I wrote it all out in a Word document, including my working out, and then put it in a table similar to the one in the video. That took twenty minutes. So it’s possible to take quite a while solving the riddles.

Also, the riddle is a fun one. Too bad I mixed up what Rikku and Sumi said in my first attempt(I thought Sumi said Rikku ate the fire crystal and Rikku said Bella ate the water crystal), but I got it next!

This is the only puzzle I've managed to solve! I gave up at first, until the "trial and error" part. I just assumed S was saying the truth - but there was no scenario she could be. So I put her as Fire, but things didn't click. I switched her to Air, then I can't recall how but using testing different elements down the row helped.

Some people have suggested something similar for the temple riddle, but it wouldn't work for that because it wasn't definite that the cursed students would lie

I just wanna point out this reference. On top of the containment fields are fabric-he eggs. This is a reference to the egg riddle Ted-Ed has made, right down to the egg patterns.

Ladies and gentlemen, it's my greatest pleasure to tell you this is the first Ted-ED riddle I've ever solved by now! I guess starting working out is already sharpening my mind.
P.S. I just heard the final remark about the riddle being elemental (so much for "sharpening my mind" 😂). Make no mistake, it MAY be easy for somebody with a solid knowledge of rhetoric and maths, but the fact that many people still haven't figured it out means that it can still prove a challenge.

Just ask who ate a crystal and two would like say that they didn’t two wouldnt and then ask the earth and water crystal eaters which crystal they ate and contain them both. Do the same with the fire and air crystal and reverse their answers and boom easy
This is the first Ted Ed riddle I've ever figured out
I managed to solve the two fish riddles and was thinking along the right line with the supplies one, while I'd already heard one similar to the troll paradox one

Chemist: none of the four items mentioned are elements. They are either chemical reactions (the process of combustion), or compounds of elements (H2O, soil, the air in our atmosphere).

No one gonna point out that the answer to the riddle was in their names all along?
Rikku - Japanese origin meaning "land, continent", was earth crystal
Jonah - Got lost at sea and eaten by a whale in the bible, was water crystal
Sumi - Can mean clear or pure in Japanese, was air crystal
Bella - Means beautiful, was fire crystal
Clear or pure could also be a clue for water
KASUMI AND SUMIRE (the irony)

This is the only Ted-Ed riddle I have actually solved without continuing to watch the video.
This is one of the only ones that I've paused and figured out before he explained it! I'm so proud of myself
Plot twist: Nothing changed when the Fire Nation didn't attack
Everything changed when the fire nation atta... wait wrong video!
There's actually multiple methods to this riddle. The method I did went as follows:
If we assume Bella is telling the truth, then Jonah would have air, meaning Sumi has Earth, meaning Rikku has Water, meaning Bella has fire, but that contradicts our original assumption of Bella being truthful; therefore, she's lying.
Next if we assume Rikku is lying, then Bella has to have the air crystal because we already know she's lying as well, and if we assumed Rikku as a liar, then both air and fire are taken, which means the other two are being truthful, which can't be if Sumi says Rikku has Water. Therefore, Rikku is truthful. This means that Bella has Fire, so she's lying. Therefore, Jonah does not have air. Since Rikku is telling the truth, there's only one other person air can go to and that's Sumi. Since both lie crystals are taken, Rikku and Jonah have to be telling the truth, and we know Rikku doesn't have water because Sumi is lying. Therefore Rikku has Earth and Jonah has water.
I just noticed that when the person is lying, they frown. But when they tell the truth, they smile. That's nice.
Steps to solving it easier:
1. Confirm you have green eyes.
2. Witness them transforming into elemental monsters.
Atleast you'll die having green eyes.
This was the first Ted Ed riddle that I actually tried, and I did end up figuring it out on my own!! Now that I know how rewarding that feeling is, I’ll definitely be trying all of them from now on. Thx Ted Ed! I luv u💚🥰

Jonah is a chad, he was the only one who didn’t accuse anyone of anything, he just said that sums didn’t have the earth crystal and refused to elaborate

If she says yes, she is telling the truth, if she says no, she is lying. Repeat with others and get your answer :)
