Hey Derrick I'm also trying to take the construction concrete special inspector. I just recently passed my Field testing technician grade 1. I also have some experience in inspections. I hope I meet the minimum requirements for the work experience. Besides the Construction concrete special inspector certification, is there any other good certifications out there? Do u have any info about all these special inspections?
Good morning, If you're in Texas and working on roadqay projects then the TXAPA certifications like the Hot Mix Specialist Level 1B or the SB102 are good ones to pursue. www.txhmac.org/class-schedule/
Are you union? ive been interested but kind of hesitant from people commenting on the union because of layoff and favoratism. I have Osha 10 & 30. Also an online ibew math certificate. Any advice? What trade keeps you working? I'm a painter but want something more marketable.
As you might already know, construction projects start and end at some point. So the best place to be is where the majority of the work is. Where? In or near highly populated metropolitan areas with booming economies. That way when layoffs occur you may easily and quickly find more work than those who are in areas where construction work is scarce.
Union electricians and other skilled union workers may face a greater chance of being laid off in right to work states like Texas and Louisiana because of skilled non union workers who accept less and produce more. Some non union employees general cost less and may even have less skills but as long as the work is being done satisfactorily, thats all that matters to the stake holders.
First sit down and think about your short and long term goals. Make a list. How much income do you need for you, your family, your bills and retirement? Before choosing a career, research market patterns in your area and other places you may want to relocate to. For example the average construction worker salary in New York is $51,720 compared to Texas which is $32,630. But we also know that cost of living in one state is much different from the other. So always do your research. Here in the greater Houston area, construction project managers, equipment operators, carpenters, construction inspectors and yes even painters are in high demand right now.
From what I have been hearing from others who work here in Texas, $50k to well over $80k with overtime (salary and hourly rates vary). This also depends on: (1) The training and experience a certified technician has. (2) How well the construction industry is doing. (3) How much work an engineering firm has for their employees.

Hi, i need to pursue ICC- Soil, Concrete certification. Please help me how can i prepare and obtain the certification
Have you been to the www.iccsafe.org website? There you will find the information you need to pass the soils and concrete parts of your exam.
Are you working as a field testing technician or an inspector?
Do you still have to test?
@rwh0659
Yes, I recertify my ACI every 5 years by testing. I also have other certificates that expire every 3 years and may require test taking.
How much can a certified materials engineer technicians make a year?
