"Believe, meditate, see." One of the most attractive things about this practice to me is that it is based on empiricism. One is not being asked to "buy" anything, to believe in something. The teachings say one should just try working the elements of the practice and see if they have the effects that the teachings predict they will have. In this sense, I see Buddhism as being more of a "philosophy" than a religion, in the classic understanding of religion as a belief system. So then what is meant by "*believe*, meditate and see?" I think really "believe" here just means, believe you can change. Believing change is possible for you is what makes it possible to try to establish a meditation practice. Then you will see what that brings.

@@nickkeomahavong01 Ya, Nick, I think is about half year ago...I commented on your video haha..and you encuraged me to take the precepts one at a time..😄 If we want to truly practice the precepts, we need to have right view first, the first path from the noble eightfold path, the Sila comes from the Noble eightfold path..Ariyan have seven precepts, Abstains from killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, telling lie, carry tales to cause disharmony, coarse or vulgar speech, gossiping so the different between Five precepts and Ariyan precepts is the abstains from Drug and Intoxicant, buddha added this precepts later. . from there keeping the Sila is not a big difficulty. I'm curious, for Ryan and you, wanting to go deeper into Buddhist thought and training, did it matter which branch of Buddhism? Or did it come down to the practice irrespective of whatever philosophical differences there may be between Mahayana and Theravada Buddhism? Did you choose this particular program merely for how accessible it is for a Westerner to join and participate in? Were there other options you considered, or just this one? Why? Thank you in advance . . .

Else it is quite interesting to know that such program exists. However, I am a bit skeptical about the duration of the program, which is quite short. I've read that the minimum time for other buddhist schools, it could take a minimum of five years before being ordained as a "full" monk.

@@robbgregorrichard1009 yes that's understandable. Most traditions do need to take a long time, but this tradition in Thailand is quite different due to the culture. In thailand, it is custom and tradition that every man ordains before he marries. That's how the short term ordination came about. But many do stay on longer.
