Ven Vincent seems like he is very intelligent with the way he carries himself and the way he interacts with you during the conversation. he really gives off a very peaceful vibe. is he still at Chiang Mai, or did he return to his other life in US?
The portion regarding your plans and the path that he is actually on, I can strongly. Meaning, due to multiple childhood experiences, I had a strong desire, passion for wanting the family that I never had. However, as I have lived, observed, and been indiscriminately honest with myself, I have seen, at least for me, that's not where true happiness is. Of course, there's nothing wrong with such, but it's not right or what is best for everyone. And the further down this road I go, the happier I am knowing that I don't have to carry all of that and am appreciative of the freedom that I have. Wonderful... I'm glad he got on the path towards inner peace. I wonder, though, how much is just the environment? He speaks repeatedly about feeling peace since he no longer has to worry about work, etc. I know meditation is transformative, but how do we measure real progress towards inner peace when one is in such a bucolic, ideal place like the monastery there? Any time we step away from our hectic lives and take time to relax we are bound to feel more peaceful. I understand that the life of a monk is regimented, but also full of quiet moments conducive to solitude, contemplation and meditation. How could you not feel peaceful in such an environment? :) Btw, where is Vincent now? Did he stay on as a monk permanently, or did he go back to his lay life?
