I had to remind myself this was not in real time! We had dreadful weather leading into the holiday on the west coast of Vancouver Island - Canada - that dumped 1 1/2 feet of snow in under 24 hours. Once a rare occurrence. It shut down public transportation, ferries and flights. Also universities and colleges doing term end exams. Thank goodness we are back to west coast rain and typical +10C.
Super pro-tip for cold weather, get an empty soda bottle fill it with hot water (not boiling!), water from a coffee maker is almost perfect. Then put it on the inside pocket of your jacket. It really helps keep your core warm and its when your core body temp falls that your feet and hands get really cold as the body tries to keep the warmer blood in your center. I call it a nickel heater
Where I am at the moment in this west facing room in an old house its about 38.C inside without the A/C on. late arvo Sun beams against the window. Quite the opposite to over there, although a few weeks ago it was cold do to air being sucked up from Antarctica.
Cali walking in her boots killed me 😂 i saw on insta you made it for Christmas, glad you are safe! But super interested to see how the rest of the journey went still
haha aww got SO excited when Raya turned up!! The bump is looking FABULOUS! Nearly as fabulous as Cali in her boots! 😂 I won't lie, this video made me nervous, will he/ wont he make it?! It's basically a race against time.. and power 😂 Looking forward to seeing how you get on for the rest of the trip!
Don’t leave us hanging. Let’s see the end of of your adventure. 556 miles to go. 👍 Four days away at about 140 miles daily average. That could be two more episodes? I estimated you would do it in 18 days total providing no more major problems. The NY/Buffalo snowstorm is a big upcoming problem. Sending positive vibes.
As a long-time driver of a 72’ VW Westy camper and a current EV owner, I’ve loved this series! Glad to hear you made it safely to New York, and looking forward to seeing how the rest of the trip went!
Man I was hoping you’d come through VA, you were gonna pass right through my town 😂 The snow also completely missed us here, look forward to seeing how your other route goes! Stay safe 🙏
The Kombi and beetles were known for being extremely good in the snow with standard tyres due to the rear engine rear wheel drive Whether it’s changed or not that you are electric I’m not sure but if it snows keep the back of the van well weighted and you should be fine even without grippy tyres or snow chains
To run the same type of heater as you in our RV we have 8 batteries wired in series parallel at 24v. They can barely get us through a cold MN night. To say that the 12v battery is underpowered for the current you are trying to draw is a gigantic understatement. Great video series, I hope you got there safe.
Louis, the Tesla chargers are polarity sensitive (unfortunately) so turn the plug 180 degrees and it should work. Probably the second plug you tried was wired just the other way around (neutral and live) and therefore worked... Good luck! Jan
You never considered a AAA membership? Now, it looks even more required for rescues, tows, etc. I LIKED that middle road option and would never take the northern route unless it was summer. I'm SO pleased your friend introduced you to the concept of heated socks. They make other heated things as well.
Love your videos Louis! I am inspired to do something similar but make the VW Bus into a fully digital musical studio and use it for street performances. I like the 1971 camper, I used to have a white one when I lived in Humboldt County while I was in college.
Living in a Caribbean island (Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹) I got SUPER EXCITED when it started to snow 😂😂 Then I realized how much problems that causes for you on your journey 🥹🫣 Lol. Love this series soooo much! ❤️
I was just telling my friend I didn't know if you made it or not. I was showing them the video with the dog burrito. When your dog was all snuggled up in the blanket. In the beginning of this series. I want you to be a couple times you're going to be driving in some bad weather.
Amazing series!! I'm so happy of seeing your post!! It means you made it ! 🤩🥂🎆 We love to see the rest of the series🤩🥳 and later during the year... Definitely, it will be great to se the next convertion of the van!!🥳🚐🏔️❄️⛄ winter proof! 🌡️🌦️🤩🎆🥂 For more adventures 🤩😊🌻
Hey I love looking at you vlogs I'm from trinidad and tobago it's like a thriller ever time your batteries reaches 11% keep up the great work safe journey
Louie was wondering what happened. Since you had not posted for a few days.. @ the end of this video.. you were 4 miles from my house you could came here to recharge..if i knew. The rv park in indiana was just down the road But i live in kentucky side of River in warsaw, ky. Hope to see the rest if your your travels.
Dang man. That turn into Indiana toward an RV park that may have had a locked gate or no AC power on in the dead of winter was the one low battery (2%!) got me freaked with the -1 degree C. Awesome job Loius.
12volt heated car seat cover only works but only enough for 1nights heat my 240v electric blanket won't work from 230whr 2000mAh power bank by energizer.winter daylight hour seem to be getting shorter now for solar panels recharging so A honda petrol/diesel generator seem likes a safer back up
Good travels mate! The fuse is 30amp, yet you need 500watt (@12v = 41amp). If the wires are thick enough, stick a 40amp fuse in there and you should be ok
Have you tried drafting behind semis? I have a friend that has had multiple EVs, including ones with incredibly short range and managed to exceed their range by doing things like watching the speed and drafting behind semis.
I would love to you insulate the van and upgrade the battery system to squeeze more range between charging. This van must stay relevant so your lil one could drive this piece of history. Merry Christmas and stay safe brother, Love you.
I figured you HAD to stop because of the polar vortex. I texted it was coming 3 videos back! 😂 It has not hit you yet here and it’s already retreating in real time so anxious to see what you did.
I am sooooo glad that you've made it all of the way for Xmas and are safe! NY was hit hard! I loved the group photo of all of you in red plaid! Merry Christmas❣️ 🎄 Love Kara and Nate's house!
They blast dynamite at 1 in the morning because they disturb less traffic and commerce that way. Every time you make it to another charger with 1 or less in the battery, I heave a sigh of relief. I'm not an advertisement for AAA, but think you may be. Blessings to all three of you.
Cameron Crowe made a film called Elizabethtown starring Orlando Bloom & Kirsten Dunst. It takes place in Elizabethtown, KY, so it is not just some random town in Kentucky. Also, they blast the roads at night since most people travel during the day.
This adventure is so interesting. Would lovee to do it in my T3 but wouldn't be fit to do it in electric. Big inspiration for us Louis. We'll done Merry Christmas
Love your name. Have you seen the movie spike island??? Jous wanna buy a dinghy ride. Lovely funny part of the film which hi lights the difference in regional dialects/accents...
I think you should have more heaters in the car because the windows will sweat a lot in the minuses. And especially if there is snow on the windows. Good luck
i ride in winter in the uk and i have some heated soul inserts that i put in my boots while doing my bike test last year 8 hours training a day in the snow i cant recommend them enogth
I live in WNY just south of Buffalo. Whatever you do, DO NOT TAKE I90 with an electric vehicle! Or at all without knowing the terrain. It got to -30F windchill here over Christmas weekend.
I don't know if it's going to be safe they say there are going to be blizzards coming to the east the power can be knocked out. Already saw power lines collapse and flooding here in NY long island. Very strong winds
Would have rather seen if you made it. I don't follow you on social media well I don't have any but YT, soooooooo, did you make it? It's the 26th? 😆😆 Hope you made it, Merry holidays!!
I am a new watcher ( last 2 weeks). When you talk about weather. I am so confused. Don’t know if your talking about Celsius or Fahrenheit (( since you are in the us)). Lol… BUT!! Enjoying watching your Journey !! 🎉
The fact that you uploaded means you are still alive :D
I thought the same!
I had to remind myself this was not in real time!

@@sburges12 This isn't uploaded on the go. Christmas has passed.
He is already in NY. Spent a Christmas with fam.
Louis, I think I speak for a lot of us when I say that I am profoundly grateful to know you are alive.
This is like walking down the street for him. Piece of cake.
Callie really does add so much to these videos. Amazing to see how happy she always is! Great Video man!

Wow Louis, you blow my mind with your knowledge of electronics!!! Great to see your meet up with Raya.
Take care in that snow!! Cheers, John, UK.
What a wholesome surprise from Raya
12:21 absolutely sweetest moment on TH-cam! We’ve watch the video on your other channel, but it still makes our heart sing! ~Cara ❤️💕💖
Fabulous video as usual. An electric blanket and heated socks what luxury.😁🎅
As a long-time driver of a 72’ VW Westy camper and a current EV owner, I’ve loved this series! Glad to hear you made it safely to New York, and looking forward to seeing how the rest of the trip went!
Given how cold the US is at the moment, I’m relieved you’re still posting, so you must be ‘ok’
i was watching this channel for at least 7 years, and i got say it louis you are such a great content creater

Glad your okay man that’s all that matters.. again thank you for the best content.
Great progress, Louis!!
"Elizabethtown" was actually a fun 00's movie with Kirsten Dunst and Orlando Bloom
Day 12, by yourself : top shelf !!!
Love your videos. Be safe. Don't risk your life. That storm is a killer.

Hey I love looking at you vlogs I'm from trinidad and tobago it's like a thriller ever time your batteries reaches 11% keep up the great work safe journey
the wind resistance of the flat faced bus increases with the square of the speed at 60 and above expect massive battery drain

Kellie looks so sweet in her winter woolies
I wouldn't try to go thru Buffalo bc of the storm, but if you do, you're welcome to charge here in Rochester NY

Stay in hotels with EV chargers and charge overnight and drive during the day so you don't freeze to death!
Watching Cali in her boots was hilarious 🤣 but precious. Was a sweet little girl you have.❤
I was waiting for this vlog to come out before watching the surprise video on your other channel.
Loving this vlog series!
I was so waiting for you to pass thru Allentown Pa my city❤️ Merry Christmas 🎄

So glad Indiana could help you! I'm not proud of our politics - but we do have some great places to visit!
So relieved to see this vlog!
This adventure is so interesting. Would lovee to do it in my T3 but wouldn't be fit to do it in electric. Big inspiration for us Louis. We'll done Merry Christmas
Louis you will make it ! Greetings from Milo from Netherlands (Europe)
I am here for watts/kilowatts/amps/miles/temperature and fuses. This episode came through pretty clutch! :)
Love your name.
Have you seen the movie spike island???
Jous wanna buy a dinghy ride. Lovely funny part of the film which hi lights the difference in regional dialects/accents...
Love the videos!
Next episode pls.. was really invested and left on my last legs waiting
You picked the VW up in California how did you get a Florida license plate on it??
They have a bunch of roundabouts in the city I live on the west coast up in Washington state.
I think you should have more heaters in the car because the windows will sweat a lot in the minuses. And especially if there is snow on the windows. Good luck
Also here is some Ohio charging info for you:
The Walmart at 13 & 71 has a charging station & the one at Mt. Gilead exit 95 & 71 has an RV park.
Cheers. Merry Christmas.
i ride in winter in the uk and i have some heated soul inserts that i put in my boots while doing my bike test last year 8 hours training a day in the snow i cant recommend them enogth

Really hope he's OK given the weather.
I live in WNY just south of Buffalo. Whatever you do, DO NOT TAKE I90 with an electric vehicle! Or at all without knowing the terrain. It got to -30F windchill here over Christmas weekend.

Oi, well done, you! Super vid! Love your Indiana Jones spirit of adventure. Cheers!
Based on how cold and dangerous the storm was (lake effect snow can stop you in your tracks), I'm hoping you just fly out from here.
Would have rather seen if you made it. I don't follow you on social media well I don't have any but YT, soooooooo, did you make it? It's the 26th? 😆😆 Hope you made it, Merry holidays!!
