Loved the history of Bimini. Would you consider providing more Eg an interesting area of Miami, Miami harbour(s), etc? Also, are there stats on the number of super yachts in Miami? What draws them to there? I’m interested in what inverters you looked at & why you decided on the one you bought. An interview with the guy you recommended at the marine store would be awesome. He could do a comparison of inverters with you. Some ideas for developing your brand. Cheers & Happy Birthday! 🎂🎶🥳
@@sailingEV888 Happy to send more ideas. I see you developing your interesting brand but have a need to find a balance between different activities but those activities need to serve a purpose for you too so you are not creating more work for yourself. For example, you have a list of technologies that need replacing or repair on your yacht. Turn that into a regular time slot. Get yourself a whiteboard, mount it in your cabin, and review it regularly. Review the priorities , costs, need to research (you can ask your subscribers to send ideas by a specific date), fund raise for specific items, etc. it serves to keep you on track, engage subscribers, and eliminates you feeling down which some subscribers are sensitive to. Do a comparison of technologies and see if you can interview a manufacturer or store owner. For example, internet access on cruisers is a hot topic and Starlink’s RV package is a future problem according to many as Starlink will begin tracking RV accounts). There is at least one alternative which uses Starlink but it is its own service. Are there others? Ask subscribers if they know. It’s just an example. Engage your subscribers and patrons. Make sure and plan to attend the big boat show this year to network with other cruisers. Most of all, be safe & have gun! Hope you had an awesome birthday! 🍻🎂 It’s building your brand, creating interesting content, engages subscribers, getting positive feedback, generating income (and sponsorship), etc. You have incredible energy and bravery (yes! Solo sailing is pure bravery).
Wow these are great ideas and insight. I agree with most of it. I think sailing channels are in there infancy. Satelite internet, starlink and faster upload speeds is going to change everything. Im going to nake a note of your ideas and think on this..what I need is another person out here with me. (A female) helping me.. just the editing for each episode takes 10 to 12 hrs sometimes spread over days while single handing ect.. its alot and Im used to the long days being onset with IA. But what your saying would take a masive amount of effort. Which Id consider doing with the right help.. Im the type who needs to bounce ideas around. I sure could use your help.
So Ronnie at the marina and I hung out and visited a historical graveyard. But I felt it was a bit macob and non sailing content and did not publish it. As for Miami I did some history about Flagler memorial. Maybe check out "your not welcome in Miami anymore" thanks for commenting
This is really great ideas. I have a big plan to shoot a cinematic video about the exumas. I've been saving up some ideas for there. But yes I must admit motivation is tough. Dealing with finances has been tough this season due to the strike. Single handing doing repairs and editing uses all my time. I'm always at the helm these days and when I'm not it feels wrong. I will skip the downer parts I learned that lesson. But its a big part of being out here. It's not easy. I sure could use a partner out here. A woman who could put up with me in close quarters. For now my mission is to get deeper into the bahamas shoot the video I've always wanted to shoot then head back to Canada 🇨🇦 to get into a newer better vessel then sail around the globe. This channel is a long term project for me. Having to do a schedule of weekly videos limits there potential. Right now I'm on a small break from weekly content in order to shoot my peice de resistance. It could be a few weeks until my next upload. I've got to get ot right. My process is to get somewhere interesting settle in and wait until it all flows together. I'd like to go balls to the wall brand development mode but I'm just not there yet. It's fun when there is creativity. Is a slog and a job when it's pump out videos to feed the algorithm. For now I hope my subs will stick it out with me. I'm hoping this will all make sense at one point.
I'm loving the contrast in commentary and attitude as you get more experienced and comfortable in this area and doing passages etc. It went from anxiety over the crossing, to putting the boat aground at night in Bimini, to coming back to Miami to get an alternator etc. Now it's like "Yeah we crossed the gulf stream again this morning. No biggie. Now we are in Miami for the 19th time. Headed to see my pal Ronnie to grab some things I need at a store I've been to multiple times." Lol, I'm not busting on you pal I promise I can just tell life is getting a little more relaxed on EV. This is a good thing! Cheers.
Well Capt. Another gulfstream crossing is under your belt. Pretty soon you will be over your nerves. One quick question. If your final goal was Indiantown Marina, why not use the gulfstream current and go in that direction like into Palm Beach. It usually takes me the same amount of time as to Miami. Just wondering. Keep the adventures coming.
Im taking the ICW strickly so Ill have content to shoot. Everyone is saying dont take the ICW north of Ft Lauderdale.. lets do it!! lets see what trouble we can get into!!
Thanks Captain!! After creating 80 videos Im finally getting somewhere! Youtubing is the hardest thing Ive ever done.. thanks for the complement! Next video is even better.. stay tuned..
Well, episode 80 , what can I say, all your thoughts on the paper so to speak the pluses, the minuses.. definitely a good number of “not good” items.. for sure! Note to one’s self, multiple of inverters, primary, secondary, and backups for both secured in vacuum packing. Water in the inverter? That one stumped me, but knowing salt water gets everywhere… yeah high probability of saltwater creep, same as a fish tank. Adding heat from the circuitry, yes! That auto pilot, a refreshing look back into your thoughts on the wind vane? No doubt auto anything is better then 100% helm duty. A torn sail… Captain you appear to be making the right decision! I have yet to see #81, but you have a lot on your plate, oh the dinghy motor! Crapolla!!! Nuff said on the hard is a clear sight to see! Stiff upper lip! Live to sail another day with reinforced devices, and the stamina of some time at job x! Tally Ho, season 2 of Florida to (?) is truly going to be an adventure!
I would love to do that sailing adventure in my sailboat very exciting and carefree i should have gone with you mike cheers from Frenchmans Bay Pickering Ontario
A powerboat guy saw a single sailboat on the gulf stream in the middle of nowhere .... so he just HAD go over close to him to wake him !!!! lol It was like the powerboater was playing a game of 'punch buggy' lol
I think so too. He was like lets mess with this sailbost and scare the captain.. made me nervous.. maybe they were drug runners? Who goes south to North in the midfle of the gulfstream? Weird..
I use the CBP roam app. You just send them a message on the app reporting your intentions and it ussually gets approved in minutes. So yes I did clear customs in the USA. Congrates Mike!!!! Its time to live life and be free!!! Keep me posted on your adventures!!
I'm not sure about what anchors you are looking at.... you might want to switch to a modern design anchor like Mantus and one that's oversized for your boat if you are going to do more anchoring in a high winds. For next season you're going to need to save up a bunch more money and do upgrades and repairs to get your boat ready. Probably should get a new outboard that's a big name like yamaha... fix the old one for a spare...if it's toast get a small hp outboard for a spare. You'll need extra freezer space, spare inverters and solar charge controllers. Probably you should get a shade tarp to keep the boat cooler in the sun, caframo fans/spares....and no-see-um screens. How old is your standing rigging? Great job getting there all the way from Toronto !!!!!
Hey Mike. You did it for me! Thanks man. Trust me, I’ve been addicted to sailing channels for 3 years, boarding your non-sugar scoop transom is what prospective sailors want to know.. how hard is it, really? NONE of the sailing channels ever show the “indignity” of boarding without the walk through transom. It’s always edited out..you never see it.. how they board, how they bring back groceries etc, I’m telling you..people who watch sailing channels are 70% people who have dreams of sailing trying to figure out what kind of boat they can afford and what attributes they really need. Adding a walk through transom might double the cost, or or are they willing to tolerate it for the benefits of an old blue water cruiser like yours? Don’t be afraid to show the indignity Mike! You might even want to do a video on just that , trust me, if titled correctly you’ll get tons of views. We’re all thinking the same thing but no one actually shows it on video. Cheers Mate!
Yes. They gave me 24 hours to leave.. Rather than pay onother 500$ Canadian I chose to return to Miami and throw in the towel for this season. I sailed from Toronto Canada to Bimini.. Next season is going to be epic! Consider helping a Captain out on Patreon.. The crew will decide where we go from here. You can join my crew on Patreon..
Most marinas do not mind if you leave your dingy. Some will charge 20$ like Vero Beach. Some times just buy a bit of fuel for it. You will need it anyway.
Where’s the pirates😮Mike did you ever actually spend any time on land in the Bahamas? But you can actually say you sailed to the Bahamas. If you haul out in Green Cove that’s where most sailboat die and get sold. What are you doing Bud,🙁oh he turned away.Yea it’s really scary out there 25 miles off of Miami,I would never go there.Yea it’s really terrible you never really know what could possibly go wrong😉maybe you could join the homeless in Miami,I’m really happy you made it back 60 days before hurricane season even starts.I keep hoping it would get better but it didn’t.Yea your boat took a terrible beating I don’t know how it made it honestly. And the grounding was the worst ever!!I love you anyway and I will keep watching just to see what crazy crap you make happen. You are an accident just waiting to happen 🤓
Thank you for your stern comments. Im just out here enjoying my time and being realistic about what Im up against. If you have sailed more than 1000 nm in a small amount of time then please feel free to share your story... I want to hear what you have to say. Fair winds Captain.. thank you for watching the video..
Out of all the channels that I subscribe to that sail in the Bahamas and Caribbean,I have never heard of any "pirate" issues. Not saying it doesn't happen but I think it is a rare occurrence.
Pulls out a machete 25 miles offshore of Miami for a possible pirate lmao Dude I didn't even see pirates off the coast Honduras. It's funny I'll give you that...now Nicaragua is another story.
Something was weird there. It just struck me as odd. I know its a bit click baity.. but I was concerned for a minute there.. it was a strange feeling to have a boat approach the way it did and where is all..
Boats run Mami to Bimini daily, not to mention the USCG heavily patrols those waters. I get it you want comments and click bait titles so here's another comment.

This is the type of comments I want to see. Great Ideas! I will try to do this in the next video. Cheers!

Hi Mike, did you have to clear US Customs each time you returned from the Bahamas? By the way, we just sold Riverview Marine in Catskill.

Do you have to keep checking in and out with the Bahamian and US customs every time you venture back and forth?

Out of all the channels that I subscribe to that sail in the Bahamas and Caribbean,I have never heard of any "pirate" issues. Not saying it doesn't happen but I think it is a rare occurrence.
It was unnerving being approached like that.. bit click baity but I hope those who did click enjoyed the video..
Uhg. No pirates bro. Catchy toutube title though
buy a use or new fire extinguisher filled with abanero or jalapeno pepper and that will stop a bear
Pulls out a machete 25 miles offshore of Miami for a possible pirate lmao

Give it up go back to pond sailing before you get hurt Mr drama
