    2:28 Seriously, at this moment players of that FPS EVE Online game (forgot the name not gonna google now ;P) should be set to fight ON THE STATION over it's control - apart from space fight. Now that would be truly badass!

  • @OldChannelNoSee

    Idea sounds kinda cool, until you realize that you can spend literal weeks/months attempting to capture a single constellation let alone a region doing this. No thanks, sounds more like a migraine in the works. I foresee large alliances being the only ones capable of maintaining space while smaller alliances are pushed out more and more.

    • @OldChannelNoSee
      @OldChannelNoSee 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Moments I'm not too sure of that. Imagine an alliance of 15,000 that can place say 1300 into the area. They would be able to secure the control nodes faster than an alliance of say 100. This will make null sec more towards larger = superior. They screwed up with Sov the way it is now, I am under no impression that it's good the way it is. I however don't think that this is going to be good either. I guess more time will tell if it's actually gonna work. I thankfully "won" Eve a year ago. I still keep up with the game though.

    • @Razzlion
      @Razzlion 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      APJ1986 From what i gathered, the end FFA decides who gets the station in the end so i can imagine larger alliances swooping in at the end FFA and just scooping stations.

    • @evefan7278
      @evefan7278 9 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      APJ1986 That's not the only side to it. This new system is actually a lot of fun for smallgang PvP guerrilla warfare, you can give hell to bigger alliances in mixed time-zones with a small nano fleet, litterally make them red with anger. For those of us who don't give a damn about large scale warfare this new system is guerrilla warfare heaven and will result in funny and hella-fun engagements.

    • @Lavenndrr
      @Lavenndrr 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      APJ1986 You miss a vital point - sov requires full activity in the systems being held, and there are more reason to contest lesser systems. Larger alliances will hold better systems but smaller ones have more leeway

    • @Axz92Axz
      @Axz92Axz 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      APJ1986 Compared to before when it was 100% impossible for smaller groups to even take space, time will tell, and while there is not perfect system this is undeniable volumes better then the dominion.

      Vampurica Depends on your definition of large scale warfare, if its having 2000+ players crammed into one single clusterfuck with 10% tidi and the lag crashing the node then no.
      But if its that same 2000+ players spread out over a system and using teamwork and communication to capture multiple objectives then yes.

    I haven't played a lot of EVE but this new sovereignty sounds much more game-like than the old system, which EVE can use a lot more of. Would've liked to see a comparison of small and large alliances' abilities to hold sovereignty too.
    EDIT: Whoop there's a playlist with detailed explanation in the description

    • @umadbroimatroll7918
      @umadbroimatroll7918 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was good in idea, but bad in reality. This new sov system caused only the largest alliances to survive, because when your small alliance has a fleet big enough to defend 1 or 2 systems at a time, you will have a larger alliance in frigs and small quick ships just bouncing between the entire constellation entosising everything. Not only that if you dont do enough ratting, mining and industry in a system it would be captured faster, further incentivizing larger alliances and fucjin over the small ones

    great input, you need however to allow the players to construct and place the command nodes. This will further enable the battlefield. The command nodes must have component slots that allow them to act as scanners for the local space, or make them difficult to hack. It would be nice to replicate the planetary interaction data management model(material flow). If each command node has a communication range the player needs to build a network and define the way you link to the station(s) and/or other command nodes. The latter will enable the hacking mini-game and some additional stealth gameplays. For example each command node may observe for particular signatures and generate notifications over the network- a gate is triggered but no ship is seen in the system. Adding a communication delay between the nodes, will allow the players to hack into the particular node, delete the event entry and so preventing the network awareness for suspicious event in the system.
    One may go a bit further defining 3 types of command nodes:
    - monitor - visible for signal scanners, but not for players
    + passive - sensor only
    + active - sort of mini battle station, remains cloaked(if configured) until it opens fire. Such nodes may be configured to allow safe pass to allies but open fire to enemies. It would be nice to be possible to allow those nodes to repair allied ships when in range. I imagine being followed by someone into the system and once in the safe space provided by the active monitor turning back and attacking supported by the node.
    - control - de-cloaking after first phase of the invasion
    - master - de-cloaking after second phase of the invasion
    each station must have a limited slots for master command nodes, where each master node must have a limited slot for control nodes, and each control node limited slots for monitor slots
    It would be nice to add some energy capacity which can be linked to the way the command node is configured to work- if the network message dispatch is set at fixed period of 60s the hacker may go stealth in the system since there is enough time to hack to node end remove the message. The latter setting will allow for less message transmission overall thus less energy per transmission, the smaller the period the more energy will be requires and the owner of the system will have to perform node maintenance.
    The command network layers will further enable the battlefield since during an invasion one may try to predict the approximate location of the next node(it would be logical for a master node to be surrounded by control nodes given the communication range), and start positioning/ allocating resources to capture the flag :) The latter may seem as a potential balance problem but given the possibility to augment slots with components in may prove challenging to approximate the location, even thou it can be possible to use the data from each captured command node to enable data signal tracing mini game.consider the radio modem frequency hopping as an example

    i love the idea (im an ex-eve'r here) but i just have a slight issue.... it's pretty much all still about who's got the bigger fleet. and no matter what it seems like for the chance of any new alliances or smaller ones that what is the avg. will never get the chance unless they waste and suck up too the powerhouses. :/ their needs to be some kind of abit more "balance" between massive 20k alliances/coalitions and like barely 300-400 man alliances to just barely 1k coalitions XD

  • @Terenin
    @Terenin 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very good. this will actually allow smaller groups who don't have trillions of ISK worth of capital assets an 5000 members to call on to actually affect some change. Maybe now we can one day get back to the days when smaller alliances manage to hold some space - as I still recall the era when you had single few-hundred-members alliances owning constellations or regions, and multiple smaller wars were fought all over the place for them.
    Maybe.
    More likely we will see that raiding becomes a far more engaging activity, I don't think the mega-coalitions will break apart anytime soon, though I can hope for it, and taking and holding sov will still be a lot simpler for the one's with thousands of compliant slaves to call on.
    Let's hope for everyone's sake though that this inspires many smaller entities to pursue their own little goals in null space, to make things a bit more interesting.

  • @Donut988
    @Donut988 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah this is kinda cool, like the concept is sweet, but no one is going to want to wait 4 days just to cap one system, especially since we have had a shot time doing so in the past/present.

  • @Dorime3619
    @Dorime3619 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sooo that's it. That is basically the end of smaller alliances. Only the bigger ones will have enough power and people for such battles

  • @ImmortalInflames

    Seems abit tedious and time consuming - but we shall see soon enough!
    I gave up on null long ago and spend my time in lowsec , less mechanics that pull away from the amazing pvp
    Simplicity is rare in eve, but I sure enjoy it on lowsec Pvp!

  • @levantos
    @levantos 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    This detracts from the strength you seem to be drawing from constantly boasting this is one of the largest fictional universes ever made as the randomness of this mechanic takes away any realism.
    It moves more towards being like an adapted set of TF2 match rules than a war for sovereignty in space. The Random Number Generation (RNG) factor on where the nodes spawn reduces the competitive element to it.
    This seems to have been done mostly to reduce server load and not much more. A very broad change with few benefits for the actual player and long term character of the game.
    I really hope this doesn't become a trend where immersion, competitiveness and science fiction elements of the game are sacrificed for convenience for your developers/networking staff.

    What is the point of caping the first round of command stations if only turns the station neutral? You can leave that part to your enemies and instead focus on picking them off or blocking their reinforcements to make the final fight easier for you.

    I think if CCP tried harder they could make it more longwinded....
    potential fight...48hrs... potential fights....then 48hrs... then another potential fight...
    4 DAYS!!! to capture a system?!?! The sov grind will take even longer O.o
    And if timezones mean the defender gets an advantage at any time... back to the begining -_-

    • @waitingtocompile

      ChromeStriker Actually station capture is the longest of all, because of the freeport timer. TCUs and Ihubs don't have a freeport timer, they just explode.

    New SOV system pretty makes the need for giant fleets useless. You can run with a captor and yea.... big fleets are only for fun now and with the horrible double cap nerf it will be pretty hard to stay interested unless CCP really beefs up the other game contents schemes.

    • @gunny997
      @gunny997 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Geo Dota You have to be decloaked in order to use an entosis link, so the defending/attacking forces will know of them while they are capturing the points

    • @shanematthews1985
      @shanematthews1985 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Geo Dota Once you start using an entosis link you can't do much until it finishes, it disables your ships warp drive and prevents you being remotely repaired, it will take a fair bit of time for you to capture something solo, its not like you can ninja in and just instantly cap something, unless the defending alliance really doesn't want whatever you're trying to capture :P
