i would love to speak to him personally because I feel there are few gaps in his views - not saying he's wrong though. Again, islam teaches compassion and love & I would like to quote from a scholar "I went to the West and saw Islam, but no Muslims; I got back to the East and saw Muslims, but not Islam." which is very true because human think they own the religion - therefore the pride thinking we're right kicks in. The professor did a great job actually. Sometimes it's hard to explain about how most (not all) muslims in the country do things that doesn't represent Islam. Hope to have good content like this in the future.

@@rabinraj15 he is just full of ego as if he know it all. I was 17 when i was sent to us to study engineering in mid 70s. In early 80s i was sent to uk to do my phd. Prior to that my parent grounded in islam. They know that i do not have time to do any other thing except study in any area of speciality. So i rely on knowledgeale peoples to guide me in islam. My logic is if you are sick you go to docter. You dont have time to read all med books to self cure.

Medicine is science and evidence based, while religion isn't evidence based... It's more philosophical, cultural beliefs & sentiments.... We should not rely on another's interpretations as it will be biased on his/hers world view, & mentality, which are influenced by so many factors from childhood upbringing & surroundings... I was a rocket engineer acadamically trained in us and uk to highest level that university can offered but i stll have to seek a sifu.. a practical man that designed built and launched the rocket or space vehicles. I went to most of launch site around the world. I was involved in designing and launching 4 space vehicles. I am now retired. If you asked me do i have all the knowledge that i was trained. My answer is no. Similarly even though i am a muslim and completed quran, i am still lacking the depth even to comment. I took me more than 30 years to be able to converse in my profession. As a non-Muslim, i truly admire people like Prof. Tajuddin. I am open to learning about Islam and its rich cultural and arts heritage. However, you must understand that for years we have faced persecution, name-calling, segregation, and even gag orders from leaders, celebrity preachers and top clerics in our country. This is why many non-Muslims quickly reject the idea of religion in politics, good or bad--- it's a knee-jerk reaction based on past experiences. How can we tell which version of Islam is authentic? While i love the way Prof decribes Islam, it doesn't seem to reflect what the majority follows. As a matter of fact, a lot of Muslims reject vehemently to your ideas. If you want non-Muslims to learn about Islam, be prepared for questions and open criticism. That's what true learning is about. However, we all know that some parties will exploit this, leading to threats (death) and violent demonstrations and escalating it to national issue. Until we can have an open, respectful dialogues without fear, only then we can build understanding and unity.
Every knowledge have it own scholar that is specialized on related knowledge. Good point of view will come from the best in that field. To best refer about Islam is to refer to a mufti or ulamak equivalent, not from an architect prof etc.
Whatever professor saying is very true. I’m from his era as in same age with him. In our days all races were so close and we respect each others religion. We also freely can go to our Muslim friends or Muslim to a Hindu or Chinese house. We know what we are suppose to serve and we respect each other. Gone were the days as now I don’t see Muslim friends like this. Those days my neighbours can speak to you even acknowledge you but when time goes by I do not know what teaching they are following and they are no longer friendly. I hope time will go back to old days and we have more open minded Muslim and can accept all races. I believe no religion will ask you to discriminate another race and definitely it’s not in quaran. We use to exchange food and deepavali delicacies with them and they also use to give us and slowly they stop on their part of not giving anything for 2 to. 3 years in a row and I stop giving them too
I remember during hari raya, a group of us will visit our Muslim classmates. We will take the bus, get down, walk through sawah padi and rubber small holding before reaching her house. During CNY, our Malay classmates will come a visiting. During end of school term class parties everyone will bring some food and everyone had fun. We were mindful of not bringing any food which were were prohibited to Muslims. During my college days we had end of term parties where we (all races) danced late into the night with live band. All good clean fun. Those were the good old days.

I’m a Malay muslim who has kinda vast experiences working around the world with international people from many backgrounds. This forced me to learn beyond the typical teachings of local clerics. I’m very scared of how Malaysian version of Islam has become due to growing numbers of “Ustaz Cari Makan” and of course their respective followers just blindly follow. Interesting if could get one of them to take the stand to be interrogated in a no-holds barred session like Prof had undergone. How they become rich, how rich they really are, what they have done with their wealth, their views on the political and economic systems and climate, their thoughts on affirmative policies and hoarding of properties, corruption, vernacular schools, community relationships, how their rich and powerful associations could assist in the development of the country etc.. I can tell you what the hidden agenda of unscrupulous Non Malays are - to make money and be successful no matter what it takes. A greasy Malay politician can be steeped in cronyism and nepotism but he will merely be seen as a ‘bad guy’. A non Malay who behaves the same way will not only be a bad guy but also someone who is trying to rob the rights of Malay people even when both are just completely acting on self interest to gain power and money for themselves. It’s just how it is. We are held to different standards. I’ll tell you what the scary ‘hidden agenda’ non Malays want - non discriminatory laws and equal rights as citizens. Very very spooky 😱

It's a tough endeavour. Even PMX still had to kow-tow a bit to conservatives to ensure he'll have ample time to shape the future of Malaysia (or at the very least, laying the foundations) through his ideas of reshaping the mindset and worldview of cultural Muslims based on his own understanding of what it means to be a progressive Malay Muslim. A more progressive and more educated Malay Muslims (not just academics but through a proper and objective religious studies too) is what will liberate non-Muslims from an oppressive and restrictive Muslims worldview and Malay ultranationalism. Leaders that try to force such changes to accommodate non-Muslims will only result in their own political suicide. It’s achievable but it takes a long time to undo the deeply ingrained belief system of what it means to be a Muslim in Malaysia passed down from previous generations. Me myself, I'm not highly educated, I only have SPM but I still manage to have the same views as Prof Tajuddin, Prof Khairudin Aljunied from Singapore, Dr Zamir Mohyedin (our local Neil deGrasse Tyson), Dr Rozaimi Ramle (a scholar specialising in Hadith through interpretation, sources comparison, Hadith authenticity etc but being seen as blasphemous by traditionalist), Dr Maza the Perlis mufti etc. These are the few educators that will slowly but surely bring changes. But it won't be from A to B, it's gonna be more like from A to Z. Sadly It's gonna be a long and treacherous journey.
Only well learned well exposed people like Prof can reason, argue , rationalise like he is. If only every Malaysians in particular the majority muslims are well learned and educated like him, the nation will be able to really move forward.

When an academician starts to make more sense on religion than the clerics, we know that religion has been hijacked for political ends. Prof has my mind opened on islam just because he explains it in laymans language and with much common sense.

Lost in translation is a thing. Especially since quran is not in standard arabic. That's why you need to understand the context of the language. The same thing applies to the bible and torah as well.

May 13 1969 and the more than doubling down on race and religion policies have crippled the Malay Muslim mind but not the Non-Muslim mind who were forced to doubly use their wits and efforts to survive. The ustaz has a calming effect on the community as he moves around teaching the basic requirements and dos-and-donts of the religion to small gatherings and performing the role as a holy man. No PHDs, just the knowledge he has of the reliigion. He is sustained by the contributions given by his students. The builder of high rise buildings and the ustaz has their respective roles. One provides jobs and comfort to some and the other teaching about the journey to the afterlife and beyond. Both equally important.

Prior to that my parent grounded in islam. They know that i do not have time to do any other thing except study in any area of speciality. So i rely on knowledgeale peoples to guide me in islam. My logic is if you are sick you go to docter. You dont have time to read all med books to self cure.

I was a rocket engineer acadamically trained in us and uk to highest level that university can offered but i stll have to seek a sifu.. a practical man that designed built and launched the rocket or space vehicles. I went to most of launch site around the world. I was involved in designing and launching 4 space vehicles. I am now retired. If you asked me do i have all the knowledge that i was trained. As a non-Muslim, i truly admire people like Prof. Tajuddin. I am open to learning about Islam and its rich cultural and arts heritage. However, you must understand that for years we have faced persecution, name-calling, segregation, and even gag orders from leaders, celebrity preachers and top clerics in our country.
This is why many non-Muslims quickly reject the idea of religion in politics, good or bad--- it's a knee-jerk reaction based on past experiences. How can we tell which version of Islam is authentic? While i love the way Prof decribes Islam, it doesn't seem to reflect what the majority follows. As a matter of fact, a lot of Muslims reject vehemently to your ideas.
If you want non-Muslims to learn about Islam, be prepared for questions and open criticism. That's what true learning is about. However, we all know that some parties will exploit this, leading to threats (death) and violent demonstrations and escalating it to national issue.
Until we can have an open, respectful dialogues without fear, only then we can build understanding and unity.
Islam is flawed, and they know it. When you subject Islam to questioning, it will be debunked, which most Melayu will never accept.

Whatever professor saying is very true. I’m from his era as in same age with him. In our days all races were so close and we respect each others religion. We also freely can go to our Muslim friends or Muslim to a Hindu or Chinese house. We know what we are suppose to serve and we respect each other. Those days my neighbours can speak to you even acknowledge you but when time goes by I do not know what teaching they are following and they are no longer friendly. I hope time will go back to old days and we have more open minded Muslim and can accept all races. I believe no religion will ask you to discriminate another race and definitely it’s not in quaran. My Muslim friends father use to read and tell us the teaching of Islam. We infact use to do fasting when I school friends fast. That’s the era I’m from. We use to exchange food and deepavali delicacies with them and they also use to give us and slowly they stop on their part of not giving anything for 2 to. 3 years in a row and I stop giving them too
I remember during hari raya, a group of us will visit our Muslim classmates. We will take the bus, get down, walk through sawah padi and rubber small holding before reaching her house. During CNY, our Malay classmates will come a visiting. During end of school term class parties everyone will bring some food and everyone had fun. We were mindful of not bringing any food which were were prohibited to Muslims. During my college days we had end of term parties where we (all races) danced late into the night with live band. All good clean fun. Those were the good old days.

Agree with Prof that one is dead when one stops learning. INTELECTUALLY LAZY is how muslims are becoming. Never blame the religion. I’m a Malay muslim who has kinda vast experiences working around the world with international people from many backgrounds. This forced me to learn beyond the typical teachings of local clerics. I’m very scared of how Malaysian version of Islam has become due to growing numbers of “Ustaz Cari Makan” and of course their respective followers just blindly follow. Intellectually not challenging so no effort to seek more knowledge and comfortably thinks that they belong to heaven while the rest are always doing things wrongly. So in the end just stay in their own cocoon.

I can tell you what the hidden agenda of unscrupulous Non Malays are - to make money and be successful no matter what it takes. A greasy Malay politician can be steeped in cronyism and nepotism but he will merely be seen as a ‘bad guy’. A non Malay who behaves the same way will not only be a bad guy but also someone who is trying to rob the rights of Malay people even when both are just completely acting on self interest to gain power and money for themselves. It’s just how it is. We are held to different standards.

It’s good to be able to listen to this discussion. I really feel now Malaysia has freedom of speech as compared to the 80s and 90s. Prof Tajuddin actually hits the nail on the head, we need to understand more about MADANI, and understand more about other Malaysians’ culture and sentiment.
MADANI in other words are being rasional, modest,humble,
togetherness,unity,respect one another and transparency.

It's a tough endeavour. Even PMX still had to kow-tow a bit to conservatives to ensure he'll have ample time to shape the future of Malaysia (or at the very least, laying the foundations) through his ideas of reshaping the mindset and worldview of cultural Muslims based on his own understanding of what it means to be a progressive Malay Muslim.
A more progressive and more educated Malay Muslims (not just academics but through a proper and objective religious studies too) is what will liberate non-Muslims from an oppressive and restrictive Muslims worldview and Malay ultranationalism.
Leaders that try to force such changes to accommodate non-Muslims will only result in their own political suicide.
It’s achievable but it takes a long time to undo the deeply ingrained belief system of what it means to be a Muslim in Malaysia passed down from previous generations.
Me myself, I'm not highly educated, I only have SPM but I still manage to have the same views as Prof Tajuddin, Prof Khairudin Aljunied from Singapore, Dr Zamir Mohyedin (our local Neil deGrasse Tyson), Dr Rozaimi Ramle (a scholar specialising in Hadith through interpretation, sources comparison, Hadith authenticity etc but being seen as blasphemous by traditionalist), Dr Maza the Perlis mufti etc.
These are the few educators that will slowly but surely bring changes. But it won't be from A to B, it's gonna be more like from A to Z. Sadly It's gonna be a long and treacherous journey.

When an academician starts to make more sense on religion than the clerics, we know that religion has been hijacked for political ends. Prof has my mind opened on islam just because he explains it in laymans language and with much common sense.
He is well versed on Islam too.
He is the best Pendakwah of Islam to the non-Malays, very unlike the Ustads or Hadi of PAS.
@@adamiskandar5107 because he speaks common language. He explains, he expands and he pacifies non Muslims so as to make us understand why certain Shariah laws are such. We need someone who can articulate , not someone who will just start spewing hatred, fear and anger amongst everyone.

Lost in translation is a thing. Especially since quran is not in standard arabic. That's why you need to understand the context of the language. The same thing applies to the bible and torah as well.

May 13 1969 and the more than doubling down on race and religion policies have crippled the Malay Muslim mind but not the Non-Muslim mind who were forced to doubly use their wits and efforts to survive. The crippling has now become near insanity. Cases in point: 1) Akmal's insane race and religion rants; Madani's pitting Malay extremism against alleged Non-Muslim "Islamophobia and 3) No sane society will allow the sodomising of children to continue for so long without action to stop it. And even now, action is not fast enough and the perception is that the GISBH scandal is reaching too high, high enough to suspect that the innermost sanctum of political power in Malaysia is corrupted. By far ,the best podcast episode and my favourite. Kudos to the team and Prof. Tajuddin. Truly insightful and "eye-opening".
For the slavery point, i think people can argue that it doesn't apply because the slave's children would have the freeman father's blood. Hence, can't be considered slave. While the "pendatang" children would have the "pendatang" blood, unless the parents mix married.
The ustaz has a calming effect on the community as he moves around teaching the basic requirements and dos-and-donts of the religion to small gatherings and performing the role as a holy man.
No PHDs, just the knowledge he has of the reliigion.
He is sustained by the contributions given by his students.
The builder of high rise buildings and the ustaz has their respective roles.
One provides jobs and comfort to some and the other teaching about the journey to the afterlife and beyond.
Both equally important.
