  • I had the opportunity this evening to join organist Chris Stroh at St. James Cathedral tonight after mass for a little organ fun… the Rosales/Hutchings-Votey in the sanctuary was really something to behold. But the little chapel organ was fun too.
Playing the organ in 6 seconds of reverb is a truly sonic experience, I’d recommend it if you ever get the chance to. (By the way, I wasn’t expecting to do this tonight, I did my best but alas, my organ shoes were at home.)
In the future, I plan to do some proper recording with nice microphones here and release a full album, but that’ll come later.

What a beautiful pipe organ wow! Videos are still great but one has to experience one of these marvels in person so you can literally feel the lows in your bones.

I wonder, is the original Hutchins-Votey console in the organ gallery is still in use? Around 1971 I had the privilege of playing the instrument. Actually, I played on the Casavant console then located behind the altar area. But the beauty of the H-V console struck me.

The H-V was rebuilt around 1990 as I understand it. It is still playable, it has been converted to solid state but is no longer used regularly because of the Rosales console being installed. What pipes did the Casavant control?

@@elliot_sander The Casavant console controlled both organs. I remember getting a bit confused by the delay between pressing the keys and the sound taking a couple of seconds to reach me. I really wish I had a photo of the H-V console with the side mounted stop knobs. Do you suppose it would be possible to obtain a photo? I'm afraid my health, at present, would not allow me to make the trip from Auburn to the Cathedral. Thank you very much for the recital.
