For Prores support, you'll need apple licensing and Apple won't allow any non Apple device to support this format As for BRAW, your device doesn't have the power to software encode this format unfortunately
I've been using it for about a year on iPhone and absolutely love the app, love the individual control it gives me over things vs the native camera app.
Awesome Alex, as soon as i saw the thumbnail i thought "thats it, hes gonna make us happy with more good news" and you did, you always make my day with these videos, please keep em coming, you are a youtube legend
I need to try a full blown Atomos Ninja V workflow with it. Not only I will be able to use the rear camera, but maybe recording a clean feed straight away ? 💥
Thanks Alex, does it have stabilisation like the original phone camera ? Most people won't have a gimbal if shooting ad hoc. Also, is there a way of making this the default camera app, so when I fast double tap the power button it opens BM camera instead of the built in camera ?
Has anyone else noticed that when you check the file properties its actually recording in Rec 601 and doing a transform to Rec 709 instead of full 709? I've seen this on all the tiles. Doesn't happen on BT2020 but everything else regardless of file type it does.
Would like to see a feature to control the microphone input level and which microphone to use, which is currently available on the iPhone version of the app. It's standard in the native camera app on Samsung S23 Ultra (in PRO mode).
Id try downloading the APK from somewhere like APKMirror and sideload it. The version they released before this one was working with the S21 FE even though it wasn't on thelist
I've always had to put my Pixel 6 videos through Handbrake before Resolve would accept them. I wonder if this'll speed things up. Thanks for another informative video.
So I don't subscribe to the BM cloud, so if I use the camera app to film, I'll either have to take the footage from my phone and import it into DR, or if I use an external hard drive ( I have the exact one you showed ) I could just plug that into my laptop but I'd still have to import the media into DR, correct? If I use the camera app without the cloud service it won't just automatically be in DR when I open it, right?
Yup, pretty much. The cloud workflow is a really neat workflow BUT it's not necessarily for most people. Super cool if you're working with others though. But yeah, save the files locally and then just import into resolve same as any other camera.
@@MrAlexTech Thanks for the reply. I have 4-5 of those Samsung external hard drives for my digital decorating, which is what I use DR for. So I've got plenty to plug right into my phone and then move right over to my laptop.
Hi from Paris in France. Thank you for work. I just bought the Xiaomi 13TPro but the Blackmagic app isn't compatible. Do you have some information about an eventual update that includes more devices like Xiaomi 13TPro ? I sent a message to Blackmagic, if they give me an answer, I will share it here. Have a great day.
All the new (8 upwards) Sammy Sseries phone let you push HDMI out using an appropriate cable to an HDMI monitor, you can also your your phone as an external display, using a USB capture card you can literally use one phone to monitor another, but this will drain your battery so be aware.
I change lens it goes HD, i set it up 4K then change lens it goes HD again :D i can record all my lenses 4K 60fps on native camera app with all manuel settings, even focus
If you can add a LUT, then it can't be far off, that we get log recording options, as that's basically just an inverted LUT, although more accurate. I'm still wondering if we're gonna get a dedicated Blackmagic recording format a la ProRes in the near future, with everything that format supports.
@@dorinxtg You can record log on any smartphone. Maybe you're thinking about RAW? I know about the Apple license, hence why I think BM might invent their own format.
@@akyhne I have Samsung and Google devices. none of them can record any log format, nor any raw video format The whole Shtick of such an app is to use the internal video encoder to record video without taxing the CPU.
This is great news, but i still don't understand why there isn't a lut for the pixel phones... I was so disappointed with the video from my pixel 8 and dropping a LUT on is so easy compared to doing a massive colour grading job.
As a S20 Ultra owner I feel cheated 😅 just one version off 😭 to be fair I don't like the camera very much despite the fact that it was a rather expensive flagship when it came out.
Please, close your mouth in TH-cam video preview still frames. Be the change you want to see in the world. 🌎🕊 Edit: This is a great video and app, thanks for the heads up!
I just wish they would have added Waveform rather than the ancient outdated Histogram. Or am I just spoiled being a Lumix camera owner? And the sooner Waveform comes to photos the better because Histograms are useless other than telling you that you've clipped the blacks or whites.
Does anyone have an issue with manual focus not working properly? I have S22 Ultra. If you put one object close and one far away, it won't change focus to the near object. Which means I can't use focus pull, which is a shame as this is a killer feature.
Sony phones have had pull focus and most of these controls for like 6 years. Still nice to have in these other phones.
Most important feature missing: No option to film in Log, which for me is the main reason I am interested in this app over the default Android app.
I have a hope that they are working on a format, like ProRes, with all its benefits, including Log. Just like Apple has ProRes RAW and BM has BM RAW.
For Prores support, you'll need apple licensing and Apple won't allow any non Apple device to support this format
As for BRAW, your device doesn't have the power to software encode this format unfortunately
@@dorinxtgnot true at all. They just gotta pay licensing. Google won’t
@@dorinxtg I'm not talking about them making a BRAW for Android. I'm talking about them making a competitor to ProRes.
@@akyhneI use MotioncamPro to record raw video from my Samsung S22. It works amazingly well
oh snap, with the fresh cut too! Lookin good!
the app works for me so far with the Pixel 6a. Thank you for the update!
I've been using it for about a year on iPhone and absolutely love the app, love the individual control it gives me over things vs the native camera app.
Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I installed it on my Pixel 6a.
Just got to make sure that the Image Stabilisation is as good as the native camera app.
Have you done a workflow video for the app Alex? Thanks for all your work.
This update is a lovely one
MotionCam does everything plus has raw video recording, its "free" and a whole lote more phones are supported...a lot more.
Keep up the good work Alex
Awesome Alex, as soon as i saw the thumbnail i thought "thats it, hes gonna make us happy with more good news" and you did, you always make my day with these videos, please keep em coming, you are a youtube legend
Always great work, Alex, thank you. Glad they've finally got it out for those of us still in the 'dark age' with our S-21's etc.

For most android phones it's just a nice wrapper still using the same set of native features from the original phones.
Works on the Samsung Note 20 Ultra too! I hope they can add the access to the wide and tele lenses in the future

Sorry for your loss Alex 😢. Talking about your hair😐
😄😄 It was a choice! Felt like a change. It'll be back in no time although... I'm quite liking it atm!
@@MrAlexTechyep exactly and not everyone gets options. Oh and you underplayed how great the focus pulling option is. 🤯love that!
That's great I have a Google Pixel 6 Pro and I was debating paying to upgrade but now I don't have to!

Same here.
Gave up my 21FE to upgrade to a Fold 5 last year....pity it's not supported.

Yahooo Luts ... Next Raw ?
working on One Plus 12R aswell
While I don’t think there’s an Android camera I’d really want to use, this is a good update.

Hey. The app is really very good. For me, however, an overheating warning is displayed. iPhone 12 Pro
I hope future versions will support my brand new Samsung Galaxy A55
I can confirm that it's available for the S22 Ultra in the UK. 🎉
And the S21 Ultra as well
Is this in 10 bit or 8nbit ? Doesn't display anywhere
