    Very cool to see their natural habitat. So when keeping them in captivity, we should keep them mostly dry with a water dish....maybe occasionally over flowing the dish?

    Not a huge fan of digging up a burrow, but I think it's so cool how you guys go out and find tarantulas in the wild. I'm just north of the border in Arizona, so it was really neat seeing a more familiar area! Great first video! And showcasing a beautiful species, too.

    • @birdspiders

      true! but sometimes it's "necessary". Of course everything is handled with great care and a new burrow is dug for the spider as Reto has shown in the vid

    Hi!
    You did a really good job! Hope to see you more often now! :)
    It would be nice to see the other Brachypelma species in the wild. In my opinion one of the most beautiful genus for sure!
    I really love your videos where you show us the habitats of the different tarantula species. It gives me a lot of inspiration how to set up my own enclosures. I like them very natural. ;)
    Best wishes!

      Thanks for your comment David, great read indeed! Of course we would like to see more Brachypelma in the wild. Andrew Smith is currently documenting them, so we will wait until he's finished and then probably start a new series on them... they are truly amazing species and we'd love to see them in the wild!

    And welcome Reto!

      From rain and fire :) Burrows are important for a lot of cases, since they can regulate temperature and humidty better in their :) Thanks Shanti!

    Isn't water a good way to get them out?

    • @birdspiders
      @birdspiders  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no, not always. It heavily depends on the species and current climate. For example Cyriopagopus/Haplopelma are impossible to "flush out", they are used to heavy rains.

    Really enjoyed this video. I always liked this spider. They look like they're wearing a bikini top. Lol! How do they dig in that hard dirt? Do they have tiny shovels? (just kidding.)

    • @birdspiders
      @birdspiders  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      they wait until it rains, the soil gets quite wet on these days which allows them to dig deep burrows. With the heat it basically becomes a rock-solid burrow in the end :)
