I just got some 200 gr Terminal Ascent bullets to reload for in my 300 WBY. So far I'm really liking the bullet. I found a nice shooting load at 3030 FPS, getting just under 3/4 inch group. Planning to test more with different powder to get it going over 3100 FPS. Nice video!
Can we also all take a moment to appreciate the work this guy does. He sounds like a hillbilly but he does a very professional job and he actually knows what he’s talking about. Keep up the good work Mason, you’re one of my fav channels now.
@@jam5287 I've used PowerShock and Fusion in multiple calibers for decades. The bullets we find dressing the animal look almost exactly like what Mason has found. Better yet - my rifles prefer it for accuracy. Either one works really well in a hunting situation.
I just used this load in NZ in May for Red Stagg and Ram...at 355yrds broke both shoulders and dropped stagg in less rhen 20yds and tore front of heart off. Im gonna used ReloadingWeathwrbys new data for my upcoming W TX Audad hunt and see how these do at ranges out past 4& 500yds...outstaning videos as always!!
Just took a 400+ lbs Michigan Black bear with the 300WSM Terminal Assent 200gr round. Bear was at 40 yds and ran 40yds. Nice pass thru with a nasty exit hole. Works at close quarters too !
Used this for a while in SW Alberta. Puts big cervids and black bears down pretty darn predictably and regularly exits. My Tikka shoots the lights out with them. Great round.
I actually found a box of this exact ammo today, Bass Pro (Cabelas) in Edmonton North, will go back and pick up another tomorrow. Our Moose and Elk season just opened, wish me luck.
There are plenty of feral water buffalo and feral African buffalo in Australia. Plus camels, as Mason mentions. Which I understand are delicious. These would be perfect buffalo and great for camels as well.
I just got a browning x bolt 300wsm with 50mm firefly leupold from a dude who shot it 2 times and wanted a 308! Got 2 boxes of these bullets and they are slick!
I've got instock notifications on these bullets to test out. The way I understand this bullet, it's a cross between and monolithic and a cupncore. Kind of the best of both worlds? Either way, I really want to get my hands on some and tune up a load. Great video. It's always nice to see you get worked up over a bullet or round.
ive taken a 220 pound black bear and a 150 pound 6 point whitetail with them great bullet for penetration espically busting bone on quartering too shots. im pleased with the performance have got myself about 20 boxes stocked up, shooting about 1/2 MOA at 100 out of a bergara i put in a stockys laminated stock and pillar glass bedded myself. leupold vx5 on it loving this rifle probably take anything in north america shouldnt need anything else.
That's a super-useful review of what looks to be an excellent cartridge for the really big North American critters as well as bigger African plains game like Eland, Waterbuck and Zebra. (Might throw Honeybadger on there, too. Lol) Seriously, though, one of the best bullet weights for the 300 Win Mag is the 200 grain. The penetration with Federal's bonded bullet speaks for itself. Did the can help temper the recoil? (It didn't look as severe as I was expecting).
@masonoutdoors_masonleather I've had a couple of 300 Win Mags over the years both Tikka 695s (one Hunter and one Master Sporter). I found them to be extremely accurate with 180 grain bullets, but the recoil was to "brisk" to be fun to shoot (that said, I've shot and hunted with the 375 H&H, 450/400 3"NE, 416 Rigby and 404 Jeffrey) so, recoil per se isn't an issue). These were all without compensators, so I was curious about how big a role the suppressor played in reducing the felt recoil. The 200 grain 30 cal bullet is, in my opinion, one of the best for the 300 Win Mag. The trick is being able to master shooting it accurately. Keep up the good work! Your videos are very informative.
Damn thats impressive. I wouldnt hesitate to use this on the biggest of game in my neck of the woods. I didnt cath the barrel length on your rifle, is it a 26"?
This seems to be a top notch choice for the 300 wm should work outstanding on all our big African game it's not legal in South Africa, should work excellent on cape Buffalo
Bring back the trophy bonded bearclaw!. These(terminal ascent) are the younger brother that is prolly better, but older brother(tbbc) is well the older brother you dont mess with.
I suppose that load would do for Alaska...or about anywhere else that they get big and thick. With 3 feet of penetration I wouldn't complain about velocity. It did what it says it does. I don't consider 2800 to be slow. In fact it pretty much duplicates the speed of 150 grain .270 and 165 grain .30-06. both are very decent in their own right. I don't believe their long range hoopla in regards to big game even if you can punch paper at those insane distances. 400 yards is a safe and sane stopping point no matter how good you are.
That’s a bada$$ bullet. Wish I could shoot it in my 300 but it doesn’t group very well. I opted for the 180g trophy bonded tipped instead which is almost as good.
I just shot some of these out of my 26" barrel Remington 700 and I was getting 0.9" groups, but the velocity was an average of 3000fps! Not sure if I was just able to get a box that was loaded hot or what.
If you want to see how this performs on bear, go to Samong outdoors channel. He recently took a black bear with this combo. It was impressive what it did.

I seen the video. 3030-3050 is ok out of the weatherby. To me 3100 is ideal. But tweak that first load you shot mN 300wby is my fav. Love the vids bro
Glad to be of service, thanks for watching!
The Win. Mag. is a decent cartridge, but the Weatherby Mag. just had a bit more fuel ⛽. 200 grains at 3000 FPS is a force to behold.
I saw you on the whoteewho livestream!!!

That hillbilly comment killed me but absolutely agree. He does a great job
Thanks for your support!
This rifle/Federal ammo would make a perfect African plains game combo. Great review and thanks for sharing.
Agree
Great stuff for the bigger critters. I’m loving the 300 Win Mag series!

Thks Mason. What can we say. Federal is the king. All of these tests you prove it
Hard to argue
Federal and nosler arguably produce the best factory ammo.

this is a great ammo, thanks for video i was getting 2900 fps from my sig cross with a 360ti can and the best group with the gun.
Good stuff. Has my vote as #1 choice for North American big game.
Absolutely
With these tests you make it easy to pick a great hunting round. Federal don't need spin doctors like some others, runs on the board speaks volumes.
Glad to be of service, thanks for watching!
You should give us a review on that Ruger Hawkeye
Mighty impressive
Absolutely

Great review - I will be buying this soon

My 300WM loves this load. 22” barrel @2850fps. It’s a hammer!Hoping to find an elk here shortly to test it out on. 😀
Sweet
Boy that’s a Hammer❤️🔥🇺🇸😎
Sledge
200gr terminal ascent is by FAR the best 300wm load I’ve shot in my tikka 1:10. Super tight and consistent groups
Outstanding. Tikkas are incredible.
Daaaaaang, that stuff plowed through that gel like a 105 Howitzer on a tank. 😮
Hit like Thor’s hammer

...but there's a distinct lack of elephants in my area.
G'day from Australia
Haha, I know y’all have feral camels! 🐪

Wow. For sure moose, elk etc. More recoil than I’d want on our 150 lb whitetail.
Way more than you need for elk, moose or bear.
With a can or a muzzle break on your rifle this feels like a .243. Not kidding!!!
Heavy Duty
@@masonleather_outdoors my .300 Mag feels like my AR-15 with my good muzzle break. It’s hard to describe how much recoil is taken away by a good break
@@donwyoming1936it’s the ability to shoot through bone, or less than ideal angles and still get a kill that makes these so deadly. It’s not overkill.
My elk combo!!!
Outstanding
Excellent video for #1 ammunition on the market, but currently it is practically impossible to get ahold of!
Glad to be of service, thanks for watching!
Not in Canada it’s everywhere
Please try the 180 grain trophy bonded
I may at some point. Please become a channel member so I can afford to…
Let's see an accuracy test.
You’re rifle isn’t mine and I’m not you. It’s plenty accurate for hunting.
I would love a Leather piece for my 300 WIN .

24”, the overwhelming majority of the most popular current production 300WM hunting rifles have 24” barrels.

Bring back the trophy bonded bearclaw!. These(terminal ascent) are the younger brother that is prolly better, but older brother(tbbc) is well the older brother you dont mess with.
It is what it is
I believe these are just as good if not better. King of penetration and weight retention in controlled expansion, tough bonded bullet.
how did you remove the factory muzzle break?
Double extra yay!

Would be interesting if you could test the 150 grain wincheste deer season xp for the .300 win mag.
DXP has been, by far, the least consistent performing bullet I’ve tested thus far.

That’ll definitely get the job done

270 terminal ascent please!
When I can
I had a 3204 average for 3 shots with superformance SST 130 in 270 Winchester . 22 inch pipe. X bolt.
Completely unrelated to anything here but okay…

I got the same result with my sako 85 300wm 24.5 barrel with 2 different boxes.
I'm not sure what it is about that rifle that just does it for me.
They look great
200 grainer from the bench is not fun to shoot. Way more than you will even need
It wasn’t bad for me but I’m rather large
This was horrendously inaccurate out of my 30-06 unfortunately....
1250 yards 😂😂. The sad thing is there is meat heads that will shoot at live animals that far
Way too much sauce for where I hunt, but good to know there is some sauce if you need it.😊
