My dad was a jazz pianist. I remember as a child many a boring visit to his muso buddies, either in their workplaces or their homes. They were a collection of freaks and misfits that´s how it seemed to me. But when they were together with their instruments, oh boy they stopped being a bunch of old geezers with odd clothes and became a sound that entered the heart of that little boy and has been in there ever since. God bless you dad for giving me music.
It's wonderful to emulate her, as long you find your own style - rememeber the thing that made Ella so great was that she was one of a kind - just like you!
Ella's scat singing takes the cake - the trades with the horns are brilliant. She had the most extraordinary instrument of a voice. We're so lucky to be able to listen in on these recordings :)
There's Lady Ella, and then there's everyone else. Even other great vocalists/singers of her era remained in awe of her. Sinatra, Torme, Armstrong,...this performance is an example of why. No one exudes such JOY in the performance, such playfulness and fun, such seemingly effortless brilliance, like Ella Fitzgerald.
ROY ELDRIDGE, ANOTHER ONE OF THE PITTSBURGH JAZZ GIANTS (ON TRUMPET HERE) ... ROY'S NICKNAME WAS "LITTLE GIANT" ... WHAT A PLAYER, WELL INTO HIS SENIOR YEARS ... AWESOME HERE ON THIS VIDEO WITH LADY ELLA. HE DIED AT AGE 78 IN 1989.
Ella Fitzgerald aquí parece la tipica abuelita de las películas que va a sacarte unas galletas recien hechas, pero luego se pone a cantar y... wuaauu! Grande Ella, grande.
Oh boy!!! How enjoyable, the wonders of music! They are speaking complete nonsense but I feel like I understand. Scatting has more story and heart than people think. "BOO wowa do waeeeaay, boo boo, bop, shady dow wowowow waeea," the most beautiful lyrics. I wish more people from myyyy generation appreciated this "REAL" music!
One day.. I will sing like her. It may take forever, but I will. And everyone will know me as the Jazz Goddess. :D But until then, I bow down to Ella. :)
Not possible. Seek u own not. U never catch up to the elder. Especially ones with spiritual gifts. Find what the heavens have for u and grow in that.🙃😉🤭🌹🙏🏾❤️😇😷
Despite being surrounded by the who's who of jazz, Ella is the dominating force on this track. One cam assume that had she taken up the saxophone as a child, a brilliant performer would have surfaced. Where are the EFs of 2014 ? No where to be seen or heard and why? Too hard and besides nincompoops can make a fortune singing rubbish!
Hey..all you have to do is make up an amazingly stupid stage name and have everyone talking like a baby like baby goo goo gaa gaa and the sheeple will eat it right up. Throw away all of whatever little money they have and baby goo goo makes tens of millions a year. Brilliant.
don't be mistaken, the very popular music these days may often be simple, but underneath the surface the music world has only expanded since the days of ella. when you dig a little, you realize all sorts of virtuosic artists and groups are at your fingertips. just within the jazz world I would point you to Julian Lage (guitar), Jacob Collier (piano), Esperanza Spalding (vocals), Robin Mullarkey (bass). to name a few. please, if you would like any recommendations, just ask! music has only grown in talent!
This is beyond human level scatting. The superhuman First Lady of Scat. Wuaah! Amazing We don’t often use the word virtuoso when we speak of scatting. And then there’s Ella.
The trumpet makes this kind of weird red trail of light when it moves in this video. It's obviously just because of the lighting or something, but it reminds me of some kind of synesthesia or something. I think it's actually kind of cool.

That’s a lovely very powerful story.
@Alexander Crickman Thank you. I think by now they are all jamming in the great celestial jazz basement, with his heroes Duke, Count and Ella.
@@Brian_Hampton Such kind words.
Sooooo[ gooood Jean

None of the singers of today could ever use their voice like an instrument like Ella
the majority don't have the chops or the knowledge however there is a young lady called Jazzmeia Horn well worth a listen
There is no point making comparaisons every singer sings differently that's what is magical
she manages to incorporate classical melodies into scat. shes a musical magician.
How is she old and her voice is still flawless???? ELLA FITZ WHY ARE YOU SUCH A GODDESS!
she looked after her voice
This is the greatest thing I have ever seen in my lifetime. Happy Birthday Ella!

+dmreeoogdaq She's royalty, pure & simple. Accept no substitutes. ( Except maybe Aretha )
+Daniel Appleton lol Exactly. Aretha is a fuxking MONSTER
How can you be so sure she's above everyone else when you surely haven't heard everyone singer in the world sing..
One of the best live ensemble jazz I've seen in heard in a long time.
MY NEW FAVOURITE VIDEO ON TH-cam ! I NEED THIS !!!
Her ear was just as magical as her voice! All I can say is WOW! Love Lady Ella!
just today I've listened to ella and her beautiful scat about 15x
You can either do that are you can’t, and boy could Miss Ella do it. God bless her
I want to sing scat oooo i love it!
stay away you need to 1. deep musical knowledge 2. creativity 3. spontaneity 4. it seems easy but it damn well ain't

i just... i just have never heard anyone that can do what she can do at the the level she does it at... my mind is sufficiently blown :O
Thank you internet100 for posting this masterpiece, it could have been titled: "conversation in scat".
my dad was part of the production. That was sadly before I was born. I am so proud of him
Amazing amazing Ella and her fellas great singer and great musicians. What a pleasure to see and hear.
@internet100: Thanks for posting this! I'm a huge Ella fan, and trying to learn how to scat in jazz class. She makes it look far too easy :P
A display of vocal mastery starts @4:41
I don't even like this type of music but I'm over here JAMMIN!!
gladitsnotme SAMEEE
PARA MI ELLA ES LA REINA !!!!!
Scatting is pretty much a " language " in the soul genre, & if the right person, like Ella, does it, it is the height of COOL..... !
THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHR ANOTHER!!!
Ella Fitzgerald aquí parece la tipica abuelita de las películas que va a sacarte unas galletas recien hechas, pero luego se pone a cantar y... wuaauu!
Grande Ella, grande.
You are so right my friend
she's so the best singer that's ever been to this earth

My mind is officially blown! Wheeee! This is truly stellar!
Beautiful and I love it! 😊
Anyone who says that the voice is not an instrument clearly needs to listen to our dear friend Ella.
A skirt, jumper, flat shoes, no make up, JUST PURE TALENT, God bless her !!!
GREAT FANTASTIC WONDERFUL!

*Chestnuts roasting on an open fire" riff had me laughing in the laundry room and I hate doing laundry.
This is beyond human level scatting. The superhuman First Lady of Scat. Wuaah! Amazing

inarrivabile improvvisazione ,un mito.
Ella , Billie,Lena and Sara are greatest singers of all time!
Ella is in a league all by herself. Anita O'Day was amazing, as well!
let's not forget Betty Carter and Carmen McCrae
This is why Ella Fitzgerald was and is the First Lady of Jazz and of Song. What a brilliant performance.
why do people always say stuff like this? we are listening to it right now, just appreciate it!!!

Yes we do...but even still they don't do it with the quality that Ella did. She's one of a kind. That's for sure.
