I threw these on my GX470 and wow they made a significant difference in handling.
I installed the Stage 2 Reservoir system on my 2012 Toyota 4Runner Limited. The coilover wrench is poorly built. It broke off and a review on amazon showed others experience the same thing. I would factor in buying a set of wrenches. Also, the limited trim has a more complex reservoir design linking to the rear tires. It is all or nothing when you do this install. I removed the stock reservoir system since I don't need it anymore. This video helped out alot thank you Jason!

Thanks for the awesome video, it helped tremendously! A couple notes I wanted to add after completing this upgrade myself, for all those folks that will tackle this effort themselves. 1. Replacing the UCAs, while not necessary, makes the job easier because then you don’t need to hassle with the LCAs. I went with JBA off-road. 2. Soak the ends of the rear rubber boots in very hot water for 5-10 seconds. They will then go over shock ends very easily. 3. Stuff paper towels or something between the frame and body before attempting to install rear shock top nuts and washers. I lost a washer down the backside of the frame, and it ended up on top of the fuel tank. Major set back. I had to purchase a snake camera to find the washer, and a flexible stick magnet to fish it out, which was a royal freaking pain. 4. Otherwise, the project went pretty smooth. I installed on a stock 5th ORP. I got 3 inches in the front, 1.75 in the back. I’m expecting them to settle a bit, and then I will adjust as necessary. Thanks again Jason!

Yeah I wasn't expecting that either. It was funny to drive around with the winch bumper on the stock suspension for a while. It was down right terrible. The Eibach suspension made it even better than having no heavy additions to the front.
We did a similar setup, but we used fox performance series. 2 inch front and same 1 inch rear lift coil. We also like a 1 inch rake. Perfectly leveled when loaded up with gear and people…
Exactly. 👍 We tow a 3000 lb trailer and it’s perfectly level when loaded up.

Just finished my pro 2 install, how huge of an improvement over the leaning and nose diving and poor braking. the eibach system fixed it all and still rides very well.

I’m going to recommend this video to anyone who’s installing a lift on their 4Runner because of how thorough you are!! Like good call on the anti seize on the UCA… I failed to do that when I installed my upper control arms and separating the spindle from it the next time was 🤬🤬🤬!!

That tie rod end that caused me so much trouble is what reminded me to add anti seize to mating surfaces. I hammered on it for like an hour… had to give up and wait for auto parts stores to open the next day so I could get that tool.

Nice! I went with 5100 Billy’s all around with new HD billy coils and 500lb added load in the rear… got a SIZEABLE lift on the billy coils in the rear. Wanted to wait to clean up the front end, so stock coils at .85 lift was used. I now ordered new adjustable uppers and replacement lower control arms and the OME 2885 for 110lbs and UP to 3” lift up front. All this because my caster-camber bolts are seized solid.
I tow a camper in the summer, btw.
Nice! Yeah in full transparency I actually didn’t believe the alignment would be successful so I had SPC UCA’s ready to go. Now I just have them on hand for an upgrade down the road.
@@JasonExplainsThings I hear ya, been dealing with rub for a bit now, and more so since the sag… really settles after towing over rough terrain for a few hours and I likely have over 500lbs with the weight distribution hitch. Mine’s also a 2010 and the bushings and ball joints have done their time. But I love spending time working on her and driving the farm fields instead of dealing with poison parsnip.

I've been trying to decide between the Bilstein, Dobinson, or Eibach setups, but this one looks like the one for me. I mainly travel on-road with a good bit of Forest Service roads when off-pavement, but nothing too extreme. I just want about an inch of lift front and rear (I like the factory rake). The fact that the fronts come pre-assembled will save me some money when I have them installed. Thanks for the helpful video.

Well done! Did you check your rear axle alignment? When raising a vehicle, the stock Panhard Bar will pull the rear axle to the right. Dr. KDSS makes a bracket that attaches to the L side of the rear axle to compensate for this shift. And then, there are adjustable PHBs. Thanks for taking the time. And yes, Kai is an amazing resource!
Hey there, this isn't an issue I've heard of before but I'll look into it. I do have an update review after a year and over 10k miles on this suspension coming out very soon. Spoilers... I still love it.
I’ve had my 22 5th gen for almost a year now and this video has me sold on this kit immediately. Did you end up using a panhard bar correction kit? At what height for the rear will I need one? Love the content as always. God bless!
Hello! Almost ready to pull the trigger and install this system. Question: have you had to install a diff drop, new brake lines, and bump stops?
Had my front coil overs off/on several times and never have to remove the tie rod. Mine is a 4th gen so maybe a difference, but don't think so. Loosening your alignment tabs so LCA will drop down is a big help though.
I didn't want to do that because it makes the alignment off more. It's a good idea to drive the truck around awhile to let the new suspension settle so you can confirm your ride height and then get it aligned. Hence... I didn't want to remove stuff that way. But, all that is up to you. Different strokes for different folks.
I really appreciate the video... Did you end up adding on a Eibach Front Upper Control Arm Kit to improve OffRoad capabilities as well as front and rear?
Easiest way is to just in bolt the two lower balljoint bolts. Nothing else needs to be undone. Then attach the coilover to the lower control arm. Then pry down the upper arm and knuckle put in the 2 balljoint bolts and pow all done
Yeah I've seen it done both ways. That's how it's done when I redid my GTI's front suspension. That led to a couple specific hickups so I personally wanted to do it the way you see here. Both are fine I'm sure.

Yes, you can set the front at stock height, but the rear springs are set to do a 1 inch lift. Honestly, if you don't want a lift I'd look at Bilstein 5100 shocks set to stock height. But almost a year later, my wife and I both love the Eibach suspension.
So a few months later, how are you liking it? Thinking hard about this one for my 2013 TE. I was talking to a guy running this lift on his Taco recently, he said even with a slimline bumper & winch setup, he thought it rode stiffer than what he'd like. How's the ride turned out to be on yours?

This video has helped a lot. Currently shopping to level and add some comfort / handling from stock. I was between this Eibach kit, Bilstein 5100s or the Fox 2.0. I don't know much but have been reading and watching. 2022 4 Runner ORP. Not going to be doing any serious off-roading in the next few years so trying to keep it simple and cheap.
This is what I've heard or read.
Bilstein would be the best for handling / cornering. Takes hard hits and are the stiffest out of the 3.
Fox 2.0 would have the best comfort / ride out of the 3 but still be better than stock in handling.
Eibach would be in-between the two. Not as much plush as the Fox but definitely more comfortable than the Bilstein.
Was noticing the difference in handling or comfort difficult because you lifted it at the same time ?
Both of those other options are great. I'll say that the Eibach suspension is a noticeable on road improvement... especially when cornering or braking. I've done an updated long term review you can check out after over a year of use. I'm actually going to be adding Eibach's load leveling system as well in the future to fix squatting while towing. I have Bilstein shocks on my Tacoma and they're great. So I'm not negative on any of your options, but I'm very impressed with this Eibach setup and would choose it again.
How would you compare it to the TRD Pro’s Fox Shocks, Upgrade or Downgrade?

Nice! I’d say save the UCA’s and install them when the stock ones wear out. That’s what I did! I didn’t believe their claim but was proven wrong.
Looks great; it seems to be the same conclusion I came to in terms of the best (in my opinion) bang for your buck setup. What size tires are those, they look great.
They’re 265/70/17s. I actually have an update to this video coming out tomorrow morning.
Wow so much work in the front. All I did was loosen the lower control arm and the front shocks slide off
It's a lot better than redoing the suspension on a VW GTI! So much harder. One of the reasons I love my Toyota trucks.
The spring on the front is precompressed, so it rides higher under normal load

Any idea what makes these different from other similar setups that require a new UCA? Hoping it’s not just a marketing scheme to bring in buyers. Still no issues? Great video!
New UCA's are highly suggested with lifts about 2.5". I have had no issues at all, alignment still great. I plan on doing an update video about the suspension very soon.

Unless you want to go really really fast then get the 6112 but I don’t know anybody who really goes that fast above 40 Harsh terrain that the eibach it feels great. We take them out and smashed through the Dunes with them.

@@JasonExplainsThings I feel the same about the mileage. I get pretty good mileage with stock size all terrains, so I'm considering this lift and just keeping the stock tire size.
@@4Runner_4ever I actually considered going to these tires when I put on my 265/70 Generals. The reason I didn't, was because they were quite a bit more expensive at the time, and also I didn't want to buy five to replace the spare. Next time I need tires I'm going to keep a lookout for a set of take off Jeep Willy's tires, because they come with the 255/75 Firestone MT's.

I’ve read that Falken 275s will fit. I’ll be honest… I’m debating them myself. We got an awesome new set of wheels and I’m debating going to 275 C load tires.
Great video, currently considering this kit or the one with the rear reservoir for my 4Runner. Read somewhere that the rear shocks are valves very differently with and without the res, did you find that to be the case?
I get why they did bolts on top, probably cheaper than studs, but a bolt tightened to a torque spec on top of a typical split lock washer is a no-no. It can be done with enough testing and data points but the tension on that bolt at 35lb-ft with and without the lock washer is not the same.
Good thoughts. There's a 1 year update/review on the channel if you're interested.
FYI I just installed a set, and the front shocks now have studs/nuts like the originals.

Jason, you are producing some great content! I've got a 23 TRD ORP on the way, and will do off-road upgrades myself to eventually get to take in mid-range off roading in southeast. And no i won't be doing all at once, probably over a year or so. If you had to do it over again, would you do your offroad upgrades in a different order, or exactly the same order that you did? Any upgrades you wished you would have bought different products instead? Any other people have thoughts here would be appreciated too!
Hey Barry, probably the only item I'd do differently is the rack. (Prinsu is much nicer) Sliders, tires, suspension... happy with all of it. Only small caveat is shortly after filming this video last year I hit a deer while on vacation. The covert bumper did protect the truck very well, but it destroyed the bumper cover. Because of this I decided to do a full aluminum bumper on my Tacoma. So a full bumper may be a good idea if you're concerned about deer or other wildlife. I actually plan on doing a 2 year review video about the 4Runner and all mods to date very soon. I'm currently sick so it keeps getting pushed back. :-)

I got the same kit. Still need to install. I ended up getting aftermarket control arms from Ironman just in case. I am having my dealer install. They recommended it, so just bit the bullet and got them on sale to give me some assurance in case they could not get the alignment in spec with stock arms. I also got the rear load leveling system in the back, which makes the rear adjustable as well. Wondering why you did not go that route since you will be loading the back down and can adjust when needed. Came to be about $1500 for everythign
I bought SPC UCA’s actually because I expected the alignment to not be a success. When it was I was honestly surprised. So now I have the UCA’s ready to go for the future.
I didn’t get the adjustable load system for cost and availability reasons. I actually waited for this kit for 4 months. Thankfully their stock seems much better these days.

Great video! I enjoy all your content. I have a stock 2021 T4R and am considering many of your mods. My use is occasional off roading. Was looking at Bilstein 6112/5160. A big factor for me is longevity. I read that Bilstein should last 100k miles. How do you think the Eibach's compare?
I’d guess they are equal is quality. I love Bistein and have used their shocks on several cars… always very pleased. I went with Eibach over Bistein because of the threaded shock body that made adjusting the height super easy.
@@JasonExplainsThings The easily adjustable shock body is why I'm really considering this for mine. Eventually I want to do a winch set up on the front, but not now. It'd be nice to be able to install the suspension, then be able to adjust it to compensate later on without having to change springs or take anything apart.
Just noticed this video as looking at the 2R setup for my new 2023. Had Bilstein 6112/5160 on my 2016, but when they started leaking, Bilstein would replace under their “lifetime warranty” as they considered it normal wear n tear…thus my decision to look at the Eibachs.
I’m just looking for less float, body roll and a bit stiffer ride. On road, don’t do much off-road. Don’t need the lift, but would like to level. Would you recommend these?
Yeah totally. They might be overkill. Either this or Bilstein 5100's.

I LOVE how the bilstein 5100’s improved handling and stiffened the ride for me. Do you have the same experience with these? I want to upgrade… what made you choose these over old man emu, fox, dobinsons etc? I am very pumped to upgrade! Are you using with original control arms with no issue?

Video comes out tomorrow morning. They compare very well to my Tacoma that has 6112s in the front and 5110s in the rear.
@@gm3430 these shocks are linear and digressive . Bilsteins are a digressive shock . So In theory the Eibachs will have better bump compliance a little cushier but still be firm like the 5110’s . Possibly best of both worlds . Eibachs run in the middle of Fox and bilstein.
I'm on the fence about getting the kit Vs the coil overs for the front and one of the load leveling kits for the rear. Have you found the kit rear springs to be sufficient for most of your use? I noted that the rear had a bit of a squat with the trailer connected in your followup video, can you estimate much load was in the back of the 4Runner and what is the tongue weight of the trailer?
I’m actually going to do the load leveling kit. I didn’t need it till recently. I upgraded to larger (heavier) tires and now the squat is an issue. I highly recommend the load leveling kit.
I am using Continental TerrainContact AT tires in 265/70/17 mounted on Method wheels 17x8.5. Will my tires look too small with the 2.5 front lift/1 rear lift?
Nope… that’s the same size as I have currently.

Will this kit work if my 4Runner have KDSS? Also how is the on road ride quality?
Ride quality on road is great. I’d say it’s a huge improvement. Feels more planted or “sporty” but it’s not rough. I believe this will work with KDSS. The website description doesn’t say either way and since KDSS is related to the sway bars I don’t see why it wouldn’t. But I would suggest emailing Eibach and confirming that.
So you've had this on for 3 months now. Do you still like it? Have you found to be comfortable or (I've heard) the ride is a bit harsher compared to stock? I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on this but, while the stock suspension is a bit mushy and nose dive, I also don't want it to be too much harsher for reasons I won't get into here.

Hello ,i know this video is a year old ,i just got a 2023 sr5 premium the front suspension is too soft for my liking and it has the left lean, I am about to buy this kit. is it necessary to install a diff drop kit with this set up,i have seen people install them but mostly with spacer lifts. Not sure if its meant for spacers only.thanks

Hi jason. I recently had this kit installed on my 4 runner but I've noticed the rear drivers side is a whole inch lower than the passenger side. Are the rear springs labeled right and left? Do i need to take it back to the shop?
Definitely not normal! I'd take it back immediately.
How's the braking nose dive after this install?
Much improved. Even with the winch on there it's still better than stock.

Yes for now. 265/70/17. I'm very happy with them and want to minimize the gas mileage hit since this is our road trip vehicle.
@@JasonExplainsThings Thanks! We have the same size, but with no lift, but just that little bit of leveling gives it a nice look. If this kit gives us the same or better ride, and provides for a better handling experience I may just have to do it.

Thanks, so my tires are stock size (265/70/17) but they're KO2's so they're a little larger than the stock all seasons it comes with. I'll be honest, the first thing you should swap are tires in my opinion. The ones it comes will not be great off road or in the snow. I'd sell them right off the bat when they're new and have some value. Go with a good AT of your choice. I love the KO2s, but I've heard great things about the Falken Wildpeaks, Toyo ATs, etc.
In my opinion stock size all terrains look great especially if you're going to stick with a 2 inch lift or so. I've been very happy with my set up. I don't know if I'll go with 285's some day, but I'm very happy with it for now.

You do want to do it pretty quickly, yes. If you waited for it to harden then you would be undoing it.

Nope. May in the future for strength… but for now there have been no issues. And I’m running 275’s now.
Their website says that these have variable force valving. Have you been able to determine whether it is progressive or digressive?

They are preset from the factory to level out the front to back. I only had to slightly adjust the passenger side to remove the “taco lean.”
Thanks for the answer, but in my particular case I have a different configuration than you. I have a front bumper with a winch led bar very similar to the one you have. I also run 285/70/R17 wheels. For me it is important to know the ride height with which these shocks come in the box
how is the ride? is it rough n bumpy on the street? or smooth like before?
It's great. A noticeable improvement on road and off. It's a bit firmer, but not harsh. I'm very pleased.

In short… it’s great and a great value. I’m sure other options are also great. I also like Bilstein 6112/5100 but the install and height adjustment is more difficult. Larger tires fit. I personally went with 275/70/17s in C Load.
Alignment with this suspension isn’t an issue with stock UCAs. Although you might need new ones if you ran 285s and needed more adjustability. Thats my 2 cents.

Check their website. This kit was for 4wd specifically... but they may make a 2wd version.

Are the coils that come with the kit for heavier front loads (bumper, winch, diodes, etc)? Trying to figure out why your front lift ended up being 2.75 inches and you still maintained a rake.
Yes, as I explained the front suspension was designed to support additional weight. I believe up to 200 lbs if I remember correctly. The suspension was sagging substantially so the height increase from stock would likely be less (2.5"). And I wanted a rake still because we tow a trailer with the 4Runner during the summer.
Thanks; I guess my point is I wouldn't expect you to need to dial in as much lift if the new coils were designed to support more weight.
You ended up woth 2.75" front lift, and looking at thr front passenger shock when you adjusted out the lean, it could have gone down quite a bit further. Eibach says 2.0" min lift on their website, but you look like you had at least .75 to 1" you could have brought that collar down and after the motion ratio that would remove around 1.5 to 2" of lift... something doesn't add up, i reached out to Eibach but haven't heard back, seems like the min lift is actually much less than 2.0 which would be good, i only want 1.0 to 1.5 as i need to maintain a good amount of rake and will probably get the load leveling system for even more adjustment
I’d suggest watching the long term review video. The spring settled a good amount more after the initial install. Yes… I also plan on doing the load leveling system since we tow more these days.

Hey Jason, I just installed this kit with my buddy and I somehow ended up with an overall 1 inch height difference from the driver side (lower) to the passenger side (higher) on my stock 2020 4runner OR. Any ideas how this could have happened? We jacked up the front driver side coilover to compensate for the height difference but now I'm getting a loud banging/rattling noise every time I go over a speed bump (even at low low speeds) due to too much spring compression on the coilover. We think it's the energy stored on the springs of the front coilover shooting downward after cresting the speed bump...
Yeah that’s not normal at all. I’d reach out to Eibach. First, you want the springs to settle a bit before adjusting the ride height. I only had to make the passenger side 1/4” lower to level out the front.
@@JasonExplainsThings Hey Jason, are you getting a loud banging noise after coming down from a speed bump? I'm hearing the noise even as slow as 5mph. My buddy and I reinstalled/switched the two front coil overs and fixed the height difference issue. We assumed we might have messed up with seating one of the coil overs correctly during the first install.

If it wasn't in the video it didn't come with one. I know on the Tacoma their kit does include one.

Regular. The suspension will work with either. The 4Runner shown in the instructions has KDSS

It does make contact to the top of the grill in one spot.

I'd imagine so, yes. Since you're replacing all the shocks, you'd need to disconnect the lines that lead between each corner. I'm not sure if you can simply disconnect them and leave them in place... or if you'd need to remove all the lines. I'd suggest contacting Eibach and asking them.
