"Please walk down this path to get to the bridge. You will find the arch bridge over there just like the one before us. This one is called Mei Hachi Bashi and that one over there is called Mei Jyuu Bashi, build in Meiji 8 and Meiji 10, respectively" said he.
Which means one of the bridges was built in 1876 (Meiji-hachinen = 8th year of Emperor Meiji’s reign) and the other was built in 1878 (Meiji-junen = the 10th year of Emperor Meiji’s reign)
Hello! I am a Japanese living in Kumamoto. Thank you for the wonderful video. My foreign friend is coming to Kumamoto next time, so I will use it as a reference! Health comes first😢 Please come again❤
Falling sick either before or during a trip has always been one of my greatest fear and it's right up there next to missing a flight. Glad everything turned out well for Ralph 🙏 Also your vlogs, especially those in Japan, always make me wish I have a bottomless pit of a stomach so I can sample all those food!
By far, you both are my favourite travel channel.. Love your take and pov of Japan (and travels, in general)! And even after I've seen all your vids, I love leaving them in the background while I do some light work and follow along your trips. ❣ Glad you are feeling better Ralph!
Glad you are ok and got the medical attention you needed. I have just come back from Japan where I also ended up spending most of the day in a clinic getting medical help for badly infected bug bites. Got 4 kinds of internal and external medicine, all with print outs in English. Final costs: 8500 yen in total. Staff all spoke really good English. This was in Kamakura, like you said I was glad I was in a smaller town rather than Tokyo where I was staying. Left very impressed with Japanese healthcare.
Not sure of the kind of bugs. Maybe black flies, maybe bed bugs 🤢 The anti biotics stopped the infection quickly and the creams healed the wound and stopped the itching. It was KaMarin dermatology clinic in Kamakura. And tourist information in Enoshima and Kamakura were a huge help.
awww I'm glad you guys decided to go a hospital, glad it worked out! thank you for taking us along on this trip again, I hope your stomach is fine now, Ralph!
You guys definitely make the best chill vlogs on TH-cam (especially Japan ones.) And I didn’t know I liked cameras 📷 so much until I found this channel. Hope the medical issues are good now 🙏🏼
I LOVE your style of videos, and just got back from Japan myself and you captured it beautifully. My favorite is when you insert the film photos you took with the video.
Kumamoto was never part of my travel plans until I saw this video. The city is so charming! May I ask which month you traveled? The weather looks nice, and there are cherry blossoms too.
It's such a beautiful city and we intend to visit again one day. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Kyushu. 🤍 We were there March 30/April 1 😊 Perfect spring weather
I’m moving to Kumamoto in August with my husband and kids and I’ve never been before. Yours is the best video I’ve come across showing Kumamoto! I’m so sorry you got sick, but I’m really happy about you sharing your experience 🙏🏻
Wow, what a move! We really enjoyed the vibe of Kumamoto and would definitely visit again. Such a beautiful little city. Wishing you all the best on your big move. 🤍 And thanks for the well wishes! The doctor in Kumamoto was so helpful and kind.
I’ve been living in Kumamoto for 26 years, it is my favorite place in Japan. We don’t have Disneyland or universal studios in this city but they are both a couple of hours away by plane. And it’s so cheap here.
Thanks for the great content as usual, looking forward to my trip to Kumamoto next month to see some of the sights that you covered. Glad that Ralph’s tummy has recovered, gastro is no joke! Could it have been the oysters from Hiroshima/Miyajima? I’m always leery about eating oysters, especially if they’re not cooked thoroughly or grilled right in front of you.
Hope you have a fantastic time in Kumamoto! 😊 We did have a lot of oysters this trip, but Ralph has also had a history of gastritis in the past. We suspect it was from overindulging in general. Taught us to practice moderation on our next trips. ✌🏻
Thanks for visiting my hometown! I am sorry to hear about your abdominal pain. I am glad you were able to get treatment. I wish you a healthy journey ahead!
Another lovely Japan travel video, thank you ❤ Sometimes it feels like these videos are all about Ralph eating eggs in various shapes, forms and cooking methods! 😂
I love these videos indeed. I think you both are coming up in the ranks of showing the most videos of traveling to Japan. keep bringing them on!!!!!!!! much love from NEW YORK!!
Thank you Ralph and Sam for sharing this beautiful city in Japan. I wish I can plan to visit someday soon. What’s the name of that hotel by the way? It is so nice and helpful with the in room facilities. It is scary getting sick while travelling in a foreign country. The travel insurance is definitely worth it. Glad to hear Ralph could get help quickly and got better with much needed treatment 😊
So sorry that Ralph had such a bad experience. Glad he had Sam and doctors to help him. Was this an extension of your Hiroshima holiday, or another trip? Very interesting. Thank you. X
Ralph, I'm glad you are ok! The end of the video was scary! If you mentioned gastritis, please have your gallbladder checked out. Something similar happened to me and well, I don't have my gallbladder any longer. Life changes. I wish you well brother. Thankfully Sam was there! Our better halves are there for us through thick and thin!
@@RalphSam yup yup. I’m going on two years and the surgery scars are nearly gone. Small adjustment with diet and stuff but overall life is good. The wife really pampered me but when I was able bodied she said you’re on your own. 😂 I’m sure Sam has tough love too. 🙂 Must be the island blood. Haha
We arrived in Kyushu the day the cherry blossoms were forecasted but they were famously late this year! They only bloomed a week later, around March 31. By then they were in full bloom in Kumamoto and Fukuoka. 😊
Oh my. Glad all is well now, Ralph! 😊 What do you think was the culrpit of your gastritis? Could it have been the sake? 😢 Travel insurance is so important. Glad the medical care didn't break the bank and more importantly, so so reliable! Gotta hand it to the Japanese.
Every traveler's nightmare is getting sick while on a trip. It's a good thing you only had minor issues and you have a supportive wife to look after you. Take care, we need more Japan vlogs from you guys. Haha. Oh, the gardener has that thick "grandpa" accent but was basically saying the history of the place how a particular area as built on the the eight year of the Meiji period which was 1875 and another on the tenth year, 1877. :)
@@RalphSam yeah, grandpa seems fun. I’m from Manila. Just that I frequent Japan because I fell in love with country after my study tour days in Tokyo when I was in college. Also a good way for me to keep my Nihongo in check. :)
I had stomach sickness in Nagasaki I met a lady as I was walking to my hotel in Hakata as took train early morning had thrown up all night before and Diarrea was awful she took me to pharmacy and got medicine for me .I went to bed when I checked in to hotel early afternoon slept the medicine was so good .I did not eat for 3 days just drank so much water .At home my doctor gave me that medicine you got last summer acid reflex really helps .I think the food in Nagasaki made me ill .I am more careful what I eat on my Japan trips food can be to rich .Glad you got good care .
Sorry to hear that! You're very lucky you met that lady who helped take you to the pharmacy. Stomach sickness on a trip is no joke. And you're right, definitely led us to be more careful on our future trips by moderating how much rich food we enjoy. Hope all is well with you now 😊
Gosh thank goodness you’re ok! And definitely lucky it wasn’t appendicitis! I never ever travel without travel insurance because of situations like this…worst case scenario…I’ve only ever gotten sick once really badly on holidays, and thankfully it cleared up after taking some panadol and sleeping it off. Thankfully you’re all ok and it was nothing serious!
Thank you for sharing on the hospital part. Getting sick on a vacation is really no joke. Thankfully, you are able to recover quickly. Btw, what is the name of the best hotel in Kumamoto?
How long would you recommend to stay in Kumamoto? I'm currently planning a Kyushu trip for next year. My husband and I visited Japan December last year. On Christmas day my husband had a fever. I ran to the drug store at the ShinOsaka station and bought a thermometer and Tylenol. But the day we arrived back in Tokyo his symptoms turned worse and we found a little clinic that was open (surprisingly the week before New Year) and that doctor gave him 4 medicines including anti-biotics. Great! Thank you so much! Using your vlog as a guide for Kumamoto as well. I went to Kyoto this year March and was a week early from the Sakura full bloom 😅 Hope I can catch it this time in Kyushu 😊
I’m so sorry you got sick! My husband and I also got sick in / after Hiroshima. I also felt dizzy, lots of pain and 🤮 We assume it was food poisoning, my husband had to go to the doctor twice because after the first medication it didn’t get better and developed and bad gastritis. Both doctors asked if we had Oysters in Hiroshima (we did) and said that they are only safe to eat from September until March and we were there in May. So now I’m gonna research more about sea food before eating them, even in Japan 🙈 we always thought it’s super safe. Hope you’re feeling better, love your videos!
Sorry to hear that! Sounds terrible. Mine might have been an accumulation of all the food. I wouldnt know for sure. Glad we're better now though. No joke getting sick overseas 😊
