Hi Parnell! Oh this looks so yummy!! Ham hocks just give so much flavor to the peas. I never have heard of purple hull peas before! They do like quite similar to the black eyed ones. I agree, dry onion soup mix gives so much flavor to soups and stews. I will have to keep my eye out for the purple peas. This came out great!
What an incredible meal. Nothing says the south more than a pot of peas and corn bread. I love purple hulls much more than black eye peas. We can't get them here in Maryland in any form, so I grow my own. Love your recipe. Thanks Parnell

My husband isn't a big fan of black eyed peas, so I should give these purple hull peas a try. I've never tried them before, but I like that you said they're creamier and milder. Your peas look delicious! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Chef, Now that looks like comfort food for the body n soul! I never heard of purple hull peas so I looked it up in my grocery store and they don’t carry them. The black eyed peas are in stock. You mentioned that they could be substituted for purple, is that ok? Just wanted to let you know in addition to the Chocolate PB cake which disappeared very quickly, lol!, I made the blueberry cobbler w pie filling n cake mix n serve it w vanilla ice cream….big hit. We had homemade cookies and cupcakes for the kids. Didn’t get to make the graham chess pie and sour cream lemon but next round of dessert will definitely do as I’m looking forward to trying them. Of course, my family loved the cobbler but always the cake will be their favorite. With the cobbler, I needed to bake it about 5 minutes more but still was awesome. Thanks again for tonight’s delicious recipe. I have ham leftover from Easter dinner yesterday. Looks like I’ll be making this next weekend after I buy a few ingredients. Not sure if you would be using dried or frozen black eye peas, but if using frozen, I think you could follow the recipe almost exactly.
