The Wisdom of Odin is a vlog of my journey through Norse Paganism, a way to assist others along their journey, and a place to promote a positive image for all of paganism.
While I personally declare myself as a Norse Pagan, I speak on topics that also involve aspects of Asatru, Heathenry, and other pagan identities such as Slavic/Celtic/Germanic paganism.
The Wisdom of Odin is not associated or affiliated with any orginizations religious or politcial in nature. This channel/community is inclusive to all but is also non-political.
All gatherings held through the Wisdom of Odin and its extended community are private events held and organized by the members of the community. The only service the Wisdom of Odin provides is a place to connect with others of similar beliefs in the old ways.

24:26-32:31 Ritual to Hel
She's so kind to me and asks for baked goods with fruit - like orange scones and strawberry muffins!
She gives back the same energy that you give her - kindness for kindness. Sarcasm for sarcasm.
That's one of the greater things I enjoy with Paganism and even if you're just researching, not worshipping, that there's several deities and ways to believe. You can worship Þór and his fatherhood, or Freyja and her magic, or Hel and her relation with th dead. There's many of us under this house of belief and we can all coexist regardless of which Gods we follow. We can all be together as kin under the Gods. Thanks for the video guys. Hail!
I personally think every norse pagan should get comfortable working with/knowing Hel more then likely we will meet her one day.
The dedication in reaching out to her and our ancestors the physical bleeding through to the spiritual, etheric realm... Don't be so picky about what was used, more natural the materials the better, I'd say, use MUD, I would, some might use blood, but it depends on ones practice. This was lovely. I'm sure Hel was a witness as well as those called upon to be present. I am sure the warmth felt followed by the closing was a release of all those present... When we are in such a state of being we do not stay in our bodies, but a witness ourselves, once we return we then feel what our body feels and in somewhat a state of shock as we make our flesh our Home again. Hel is the master of balance in that way of being, one foot in this realm and one foot in the other... I appreciate the content it makes my heart warm.
Hel sounds very similar to Kali in Hinduisim; a deity who guides through the change of death. After leaving Christianity, I was very drawn to Kali. It's comforting to know that my Scandinavian ancestors had a similar concept of the afterlife and a goddess who who watches over the dead.
The Hel Ceremony at NC Ostara was my first experience with Hel. As someone who is a little sensitive to changes in energy, I did feel a definite change in the energy as Ian walked through the gate. There was also a sudden burst of cold air JUST as he went through. Just before he went back into the gate, I felt a vibration on my left shoulder. It was like a gentle touch of spiritual energy, and I took that to be my grandfather who I was venerating at this ceremony. It gave me a powerful sense of humility for all the people who lived and died before me. I appreciated the connection I was able to feel in that ceremony, and as I do my ancestor work at home, I am going to be sure to thank Hel for keeping my beloved dead near her.
Hi I have that too it's really cool when you can sense changes I have to ask what exactly is the sense or feeling you got from hel I'm wondering if it's the same feeling for everyone
I am one who likes to almost bite the big one due to just abnormal circumstances. I had emergency surgery (again) this past weekend. Sometime during my snoozing I heard all the alarms (I’d stopped breathing)
I see this shadowy figure. I don’t see an actual anybody, just a shape. Feminine but not the scrawny sickly scary as was alluded to in the video (first time I’ve watched it was right now) but more a stereotypical “motherly” shape. I promise. I will swear to it this figure said “trying to meet me so soon? Stop ignoring me” as I am coming back around.
Right now I canna be certain who she was, but I FEEL it was her. She gave off vibes of comfort. More chastising than demanding. I don’t find fear with her. She is the caretaker of those who died old or ill. That is a helluva job (pun absolutely intended) I’ve searched for information, but it was limited. But of COURSE you would have a video! I have only very recently entered my path so I’m still unsure of many things still. But this. This was OBVIOUS that someone was reaching for me trying to get my attention.
I had commented when this video first came out on Friday, but then I noticed it was down, and the comments gone. What I had brought up as well as others is that Hel is the sister of Fenrir and Jörmungandr making her the daughter of Angrbođa and Loki. I thought this was common knowledge. The story of the burnt heart was that he gave birth to a troll a totally separate entity. But I understand your intake on this story.
My own experience with Hel is that she comforted me when a dear friend had passed away. Being that he's Catholic, I asked her to take him into her arms and send him to where he wanted to go. I felt strongly that she heard me. Great video. Loved Ian being part of it.😊
I am currently working on my portrayal of Hel at the new Yule Viking Festival in Gladewater Texas, and this is very helpful information. Thank you so much 😊
crazy to me that you posted this, i was doing extensive Hel research last night😂
I don't know if I believe in anything but the only spiritual experience I ever had was with Hel.
In my 20s I had a dream that still sticks with me. I remember telling my old roommate about it and the girl I was with at the time. I doubt they even remember the conversation.
So I had this dream where I was in a ruins in a really black night. I was at peace and it felt nice. This was a nice place to me. There was grey fallen pillar like stones and Hel's face was carved into the stone floor, the area lit by fire I couldn't see.
I could see the shape of her in the shadows just outside of the light and I knew it was her. She said that she was my mother and she loves me. I often think about that dream and I wonder if when I die she'll welcome me home.
Interessting dream you had. I'm interessted in the emotions the dream triggers in me when I have a dream, because this related to something the subconsious works on to remove. The subconsious can remove trauma like the EMDR treatmen can. Based on your calmness in a dark and gloomy space and with Hella around, I think you have overcommed the fear of death. And that is really good, because this fear is limiting life.
It's always fascinating and reassuring to see how people's UPG with the gods lines up. I also like giving dried flowers to Hel
I'm glad to be able to put a face to his voice from the folk podcast .
Love this and always happy to gain in wisdom especially about Hel. I've never really followed her I'm more of a War and Magic Goddess followers and of course Allfather and Frey, Heimdall follower myself but good to know about her. Others have said it and I will as well, never suffer fools or negative nancys as myself and many learn and share a great deal with you and I feel you are amazing and we appreciate you.
Thankyou for this video my wife works alot with hel and has received a couple visions of her mother and father before they died. But she didn't realize how much she has been talked to until she thinks back . She works in a nursing home and assist in transitioning her her residents from Midgard to hel. My wife feels and smells when she will be handing her resident off.
You just answered a question I didn’t know I had. I’ve had loved ones come to me in vision, in dreams, right before they passed.
Great conversation between the two of you guys, i learned a few new things about Hel i didn't know before, thanks✌🏼
Hey keep up the good work and never give a voice to those people that are being negative towards your channel just because they want attention.
Absolutely great comment
I’ve seen some videos that say the only place she’s referred to as being half skeletal or half rotting corpse are from Snorri’s writings and no other sources and he’s the one who referred to her as half black/blue too! 🤷♀️ A few years ago I was scared of working with Hel as I had this idea of her being really dark and it being scary to to poke around into those areas and I knew she would want me to face things and let them go and I wasn’t ready to but then I’ve spent the last few years researching and learning more about her and I’ve actually realised she’s quite motherly and nurturing, she just has a way of making you let things go even if it’s hard and you don’t want to, if it’s for your greater good she will push you to try and get rid of it but I also realised that I’ve always been close to her, as since a really young child I had many family members die and it was only really me and my dad left, I used to unconsciously go to graveyards to sit and meditate in a way I guess, when I was down and lost with depression and I always found comfort there, my back garden also backs onto a graveyard and I’ve always been drawn to bones especially and collected them, so I guess I’ve always shown I was walking her path in a way, I just didn’t acknowledge/realise it until the last few years, my dad died 3 years ago in Nov, so I’ve been facing death in a more intense way than before as I’ve just been so lost and broken-hearted since. I’ve kept getting her oracle card or hagalaz popping out of runes or card decks in the last few weeks and she pops up in random videos I watch that aren’t even about her and stuff like that so it’s been amazing to get closer to her lately, I have found though that since I started to begin working with her or at least telling her that I felt more ready to, that I’ve been given some really weird things, I found some bones and I had put one on my bedroom bookshelf a while ago and now somehow a load of tiny maggots had not appeared anywhere or even shown signs of being there but they were in my jewellery box when I looked for something yesterday and I can only think it’s from that as it’s on a few shelves above it and that was weird and so gross and then a random wing of some dead insect dropped on me yesterday while I was at my Viking reenactment group and it wasn’t connected to anything above me or from a spider web or anything, it just floated down and landed on my leg and I was bewildered and then I was listening to this video while I walked my dog 🥰 and I found the wing of a dead bird in an area I never go but felt really pulled into today, so she’s defo pushing death into my path more and I guess she’s testing my comfort levels with it all and I’m interested to see what happens next but if I find a corpse while out walking somewhere now, then I’m out! 😂😂
Yous are doing great work guys thanks to the blessing the gods have given me I am now 96 hours sober I feel so much better I know the allfather is with me all hail lord Odin and all hail lord Thor and all hail the true god's and all hail the spirits of the land skal brothers and sisters
You mentioned this is a long video. I'm just hear to encourage you to make videos long! I'm here for it. :)
I have recently gotten interested in norse paganism and I would honestly, honestly be incredibly excited if it got "revived" in the mass populations. It is beautiful as pf right now and I am glad for it but I hope more people will see the beauty of it. It truly is an extraordinary religion and lifestyle. Keep up the good work! ❤️
I’ve always had a strong pull and connection with Hel. To me she has always been a warm and inviting personality but she can also be very stern and orderly. She has always been on the side of order for me.
Motherly. That’s how I feel her.
Stern, and sometimes grim, but not without love.
To Anyone who reads this I am just coming back to my ancestry to our ancestry I am coming off of 25 plus years raised as a Christian but it never felt right for me I even branched off into paganism where I felt more at home but always crawled back to Christianity because it was what I was supposed to do and it made me a good girl. But now I have been for the last 2 or 3 years going my own way finally and not faltering and I keep moving forward and as I mentioned just getting back to my ancestry so there's still a lot of new things to me like for example listening to Viking metal I am just now starting to understand the songs because I'm getting back into the mythologies and the stories and it excites me so much I love it. I have never worked with any of the Norse gods there are a few I admire so much and a few that I despise but I feel like one in particular has been reaching out to me or talking to me and that's Hel herself. First it started with the brothers of metal song Hel and ever since I've just been seeing mentions of her everywhere been having some crazy dreams and all that that's why I looked for this video today LOL. I am a new and upcoming Viking I'm still in my training but I am coming back to a place that makes me feel at home and I'm excited about all of it and I feel like personally she's not that bad of a person and to be honest I can identify with maybe a lot of how she feels. If she wants to reach out and talk to me I'll be her friend. Stay safe and may the gods be with all of us sword brothers and sisters
💫❤ Thank You so much!!
@33:00 - I would recommend thinking about the char-coal versus the ash. Water and ash is the base of lye-soap, a caustic base...
Thank you so much
Lady Hel definitely lives up to her moniker of "The Hidden One." At certain times, or times of the year as is stated in the video, is far easier to communicate and feel as if you were acknowledged by the lady. Other times, such as a now right around Midsummer, I find it more difficult to commune with her, as she seems either distant or doesn't communicate at all. But what we have with our Gods is a relationship, and we shouldn't ignore them just because we feel ignored. I find that Hel likes flowers, freshly plucked and in their prime, placed upon a sacred space to her. Then, you allow them to wither and dry, fully letting them live and die on her altar. Hel is ambivalent about offerings of drink (Sometimes she seems pleased, other times she seems to ignore it.), but does seem to like fruits that are close to spoiling. I find she likes burnings of a specially devoted candle or of fine incense in her honor.
Sorry, if the previous video a lot of people left negative comments. I did not see it. To me you do a terrific job explaining things. when you don’t the first time, you try to answer that person’s comments to help clarify what you meant in the video. Thank you, for posting the video.
Here from Minnesota Minneapolis l like learning about what others experience. Is to know good thing.
I wrote a song about dying and going to her a while ago.
Yesterday I was at my garden with a guy that was cutting my grass.
I was singing her song in my mind while watching the guy work.
Out of the blue a branch in the perfect form of algiz came flying to my feet and landed right in front of me in the perfect position.
A few months ago I lost a haird bid with this very same rune in my garden.
That's what make me come here to know more about her.
I love ur videos somuch
I received a vision of my Ancestors, the afterlife, and what I believe to be Helheim… since then, I long for Helheim, to join my ancestors, and have been pretty devoted to Hel ever since.
I’ve been working with Hel for around 10 years. She’s interesting that’s for sure
From hi to thanks for your respect.
Is it just me, or was there a face in the fire watching the ritual when people were putting the hand prints on him

I have had several thoughts about Hela, both from this video and from before.
(Note: I am going to assume that Hel is the "Seat of Power" for Hela. Even if "Hel" is just the name of her Mansion/Hall/Castle/Fortification.)
First, Hela as a vampire? That half dead and half alive seems very close to Undeath...
Second, Hela as a Warden. Part form what you said about "sending people to Hel" as in Hel is a prison with Hela as the Worden.
Three, there are many stories, Scandinavian stories, of Draugr. Would Hela have domain over both the Draugr and the Necromancer who created them? Or can Hela create Draugr as Tomb Guards?
Four, there was also the idea, admittedly form Fan-fiction, that most of Hel was a land of the dead. However, there was also a section of Hel for the punishment of Evil people. Was there any talk about the punishment of Evil people?
so helheim was a prison for hela herself so she treats all there as good as she can but no one can leave even herself
hel is half dead half alive so she can not die of old age unlike the other gods who eat apples of youth to not die of old age but she could still die from combat
a draugr is a person who died with greed in life or a grave robber took something from there grave or if you died from a draugr or if you are not lying down when dead u turn into a draugr, a draugr most people think of them like a zombie but i like to think of them like the body will rest but the soul with be fueled by greed or the unabiliy to fully rest but that's on the fact that when we die now we go in box's 6 feet under ground with no way to escape but back then the only way to rid a draugr was to drown them or completely destroy the body of the draugr. that is why most norse if you diden't die in battle the person who died are sent on a boat and a arrow is lit on fire and aimed at the boat to light the boat on fire to make sure the body gets cremated or if they become a draugr they will drown but when a draugr drown's they will go to helheim never ran's hall also they are not punished for what they did as a draugr
cause they had no control over there actions as draugr
there is a punishment for immoral people it has two names the first is nastrond which tranlates to ''corpse shore'' the secound is nifhel which tranlates to'' misty hel''(heim). it is located in the coldest darkest part of helheim where hela sends the immoral to be ripped apart by nidhogg a creature that has hate for man cause his only focus is the destruction mankind create's so nidhogg is half serpent half dragon so a dragon that has no hind legs and he hate's mankind so hela see's this and send's the immoral to have there soul ripped apart till they don't exist cause there existence is an insult to everyone else the people in the afterlife, the gods, fate itself, even the goddess of death will despise your existence if you have done something immoral and there is no sorry's if your have done something immoral in your action's no amount of sorry will save you from nastrond
i can't say exactly who will go to nastrond cause i fear my comment will get deleted but you already know what is immoral vs moral
ps. nidhogg also chew's on the root's of yaggdrasil and talk's to a squirrel in his free time
I don’t see Hel having any connection to undead entities. She is the ruler over the dead and wouldn’t let anyone including Baldr, who exist in the worlds of the dead. As any beings who are “undead”, those who still have a connection to the living world, whether they be ghosts, draugr, whatever; it seems to me that they are not yet her subjects as for whatever reason, they have not arrived in Niflheim.
Where in MN?
Is it me or behind him near the tree there's something moving I think it's a spirit or it could be hel. Anyone else see it?
In danish Hel means whole :)
Thank you. Yes that makes sense. I have learned that those sent to Hella are those that have so many limiting beliefs that they are frozen in acting. Like Hellas two servants, nobody has ever seen them moving. So, maybe Hella helps identify the limiting beliefs so they can become healed, and we can start living? The Nordic Mythology could be an explanation of where the trauma in life goes. In the book "The Body keeps the score" by Bessel Van der Kolk, we can learn that trauma is kept in the brain and is experienced as been frosen /or having a out of the body experience in a stress full situation. Research on the Vagal nerves has identified these nerves are determining when something is too much to bear, and we are then de-associated from the situation that is painful, meaning we go frozen or numb. A soul loss is a trauma., we are frosen in the moment, it is impossible to move. The death can not move. And the trauma is just stored in the brain, which I believe belongs to Odin, based on his character/behaviours and from Traditional Chinese Medicin, he is maybe the Governing Vessel (Du Mai) that is in all living beings, even the tiny bugs. This meridian is responsible for distributing energy to all the other meridians. The other trauma we could experience is sexual abuse, which also can give soul loss. And I think this could be the "death" Freya gets. Because she represents love - the physical part of love, based on the stories about her. I'm still amazed by our ancestors ability to observe how the body handles trauma and then wrap it up in stories that could become transmitted orally for over 1500 years as energies/gods that actually help releasing it so we can heal/hel. I'm getting more and more greateful every time I reflect on it. ❤❤❤
So what does it mean to see the goddes of death in your dreams
The slandered Satan is Odin the origin of "Christmas"
Great video. I got some great Rökkatru vibes.
Do you think the Aesir sent Hel to Helheim with their blot knives? It's not an easy place to get to.
odin rode on sleipnir to cast hel in niflheim but could not stay long at all, in fact he was really fast about it
@@Thecyber010Interesting. Was that in the Poetic or Prose Edda? I can't seem to find it.
very cool video. i am a atheist who is very fascinated in this religion so hopefully you dont mind me asking this. in the video someone said that we will most likely not end up in Valhalla and instead go to helheim. as pagans or asatro, how do you feel about going to helheim instead of Valhalla. are dissapointed, sad or is it just a fact you have to deal with
Well Hel is the place all the dead go, i f not dying in battle a n d be chosen for Valhalla, were those who liked to battle in life can do this the whole day and when they "die" they're back next morning.
It's discussed, if it's also a battle if you fight against cancer or the difficulties of life.
That nobody will ever know unless he meets ones deity.
@@uschibarthel4141 you must understand fighing something does not mean you go to valhalla it's if you give your life for the life's of other's you will go to valhalla and if you don't you go to helheim where most people will go to aid her in the upcoming fight

Is that Danheim at the end and if so what song may I ask?
I think it's called Yggdrasil by Danheim but don't quote me on that lol
I have never had a particular desire to work with Hel, however, I have spent the past three months feeling Her, and I believe She may be asking for my attention. Any thoughts on this?
I have discovered that the people sent to Hella, are those with limiting beliefes that make them immovabel in an area of their life. Like Hellas two servants, because nobody have ever seen them move. Perhaps it is time to release some limiting beliefs you got in your past that don't serve you anymore or are now directly harmfull because it limits your ability to act?
Maybe she doesn’t want to be known. She probably want to be left alone. Just saying.
This. I couldn’t understand why I kept getting “Hel has frozen over” about two years ago … casually stumbling upon this today. I had to pause the beginning of the video. That lake - she’s frozen. Leave her the fuc alone boys. 🤢 she has many to care for.
no she want's to be known so people can stop fearing death cause its a process of life (birth, life death, decay) but the soul will just transtion to an after life
All my life this spirit has been freaking me out. And now hel is talking to me. It's very freaky. But please contact back. I don't know if its a bad thing or a good thing. Someone please lmk. I'm not crazy I'm a shaman. So I try to spread peace and help spirits pass. But even I don't know how to deal with this situation...

@@TheWisdomOfOdin super cool
Encountered her at work few yrs ago before I hot covid
The half blue thing could be like the way Osiris was depicted as being blue because he had died and gone to the underworld. so the half blue thing is like similar to the idea of half black or skeletal.
no she was blue cause there is no sun and she in a realm of ice
Does Hel have a rune that goes with her?
isa or haglaz
isa the rune of ice (stillness)
haglaz the rune of hail (sucess threw destruction)
but the rune i say would go for her is isa but both are fine
I do not believe that the half burned woman is Hel’s mother. In the Prose Edda, in section XII, it states that the troll women live in the east part of Midgard called Ironwood along with a witch that bears wolf offspring.
Section XXXIV of the Edda says, “Yet more children had Loki. Angrboda was the name of a certain giantess in Jötunheim, with whom Loki gat three children: one was Fenris-Wolf, the second Jörmungandr-that is the Midgard Serpent,-the third is Hel.”
I don’t see any reason to connect Angrboda with a half burned woman or connect her to the troll women.
Ashes and water are caustic to your skin I would not recommend doing that for the handprints all over your body
So what's the difference in lokis other children? How can she be a goddess but they are God's at all?
Some kids are just more talented and powerful than others? 😂
@@andeannafarnes4719 cause she is different she is nor monster unlike her brothers nor god nor jotun she is something extraordinary an offspring of a jotun witch and a god of mischif
she is the only one who was not born a god/goddess but earned it (so she is 3 quaters jotun a 1 quater aesir) that is why she is the goddess of death all of her things symbolize why a person dies her servent's symbolize why a person fail's at living life (lazyness) and she is a symbol of death for death is mercy and she is mercyful
I've had several friends and family die recently so this is my opinion.
I offer sacrifice for them cuz they are not of same religious beliefs.
Golden paved bridge? Sounds like the entrance to Christian Heaven. 😂 The beauty of a graveyard for those those who worship the Christ the undead dead.
Ah Dude coulda had a coca cola but anyways ima drink jager and listen to this
Why would I feel Hel calling to me
Maybe you have some limiting beliefs that makes you immovabel in some areas of your life? I belive Hella is getting those people send to her that are frosen in acting in some areas in their life.

Why did you want to film at a christian graveyard when discussing Hel?
You can make lye from ash and water 😉
Because she is a female ofcourse they wouldn't talk about a female in power.
