    Bo, saw some reviews on the DJI Mavic, looks fantastic.....none from you yet, but I value your opinion so I'd love to know what you think of it. More importantly, does it have hdmi port so I can use my Fatsharks and Headplays. Please advise when u can. Thanks, Fred

    I love the TH-cam videos! They're great! I live in York, SC and I'm looking for a selfie style drone. I want a drone that has a follow me function that I can take to the range to record some of our shooting drills. I'd like to record somewhat close up, maybe 10 feet away and 10 to 15 feet high.
    I was looking at the Dobby and the Breeze. Can you help me make the decision? Which do you believe has the better follow me function for what I'm looking for?

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would go for the Breeze, super easy to fly and better camera than the Dobby, alternatively consider the new DJI snap, better flyer and better camera than both the two other units.

    Thx for the info Bo. You undoubtedly have a connection to DJI, so when do you think their goggles for the Mavic will be available and how much are they likely to cost?

  • @BornIn68
    @BornIn68 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    To be honest, the one factor that made me go for a Dobby was it can literally fit in my pocket. I can process the photos in photoshop to look as good as I want them to, the five minute flight is enough to capture aerial shots of anywhere I've got the DSLR and I've got a few spare batteries. I've got a 500 4k and Tarot 680, but always now have the Dobby tucked in my camera bag or jacket pocket. Their customer service really listen to what the users are wanting and are implementing more and more features. If the Breeze was just a little smaller and foldable it might have made my list. I'd not say no to a Breeze, but the form factor just doesn't make it truly as portable as the Dobby.

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agree, the DOBBY size is amazing. and having a camera is half the battle, same reason the iPhone is the worlds most popular camera, its always in the pocket. its not always about image quality, having the quad in the first place is 90% of getting the shot.

  • @MrTUBER408
    @MrTUBER408 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    The one thing that you might have shown was the higher altitude panning video. I saw some jello in the DOBBY video in a previous review you did. Does the BREEZE have any trace of jello with high panning video? Good review! ;-)

  • @dronemission
    @dronemission 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    hey Bo nice comparison. great to see all three in one screen. i don't know how practical it is with 5 minutes on a Dobby for travel, but it is fun and easy to send one up in the sky for an aerial peek. - Leo

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Leo, agree, the 5 minute really is a big limitation, as it really limits how much you can do before you gotta start thinking about getting the DOBBY back on the ground. but both of them are perfect for getting some quick selfie / instagram shots on the run.

    Hey, nice review. Does the breeze do palm take-off and landing?? I see you do it at the start. I'm thinking of getting the breeze because the camera seems way battery and the battery life but the camera seems to lack some basic features the dobby has like timed/burst shot which is disappointing. If the breeze had this plus folding arms it would be amazing.

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Dean, yes the Breeze will start and land in the hand.
      The camera have better quality than the dobby.

  • @vansantsam
    @vansantsam 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The Breeze seemed to have better video and the Dobby had a better still, however I think with the Breeze you can adjust the White Balance, EV, and Flicker (50hz, 60hz, auto) for better still pictures.. Then again there is always post processing for both stills and video.. In video after shooting in 1080 (with electronic stabilization), you can aways post process that to up-sample to 4K..

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes and no. there is no point in up-rezzing to 4k, resolution still is 1080p. You can naturally upres to fit a 4k project if needed.
      Today i would suggest looking at a Mavic Air or SPARK as they both beat the breeze and dobby in terms of image quality by a country mile.

    Great Review! I reviewed the Xiro Xplorer Mini on my channel. It is very comparable to both of these, might be another contender. I am looking into the breeze also, if only the quality could be packed into the size of the dobby.

    Never mind Bo...found out Mavic has no HDMI port (bummer), so FPV will either be through DJI's own goggles which are not yet available or by using goggles that accept whatever smart phone one uses as the screen. I have IPhone 6, which goggles would best be suited for it and where would I get them? Many thx as always, Fred.

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fred, the simplest solution is to get a Nvidia Shield with HDMI out, then you can plug directly to HDMI goggles.
      I have some great freestyle goggles that I used today with the disco, however they require a stereo image on the iPhone. unless the DJI app will make a stereo image, its a no-go I stick to my Nvidia Shield from eBay theory.

    Great comparison thanks! I'm trying to pick a drone and not sure what to go for, would you say the breeze is better then? Longer battery life, better video quality and not that much bigger to carry around?

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      for portability its hard to beat the Dobby, however image quality is slightly better in the breeze along with also better flight-time, you simply can relax a bit more while framing the shot, but the nature of these are simple, they are intended to pop up and get a aerial shot of something, basically flying iPhone cameras, just up in the air, snap the shot or two, then land.

    • @GretasTravels
      @GretasTravels 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair enough, thanks for the advice! I make travel videos so would like something to take cool aerial shots of panoramas with, so maybe these might not be the best, but I also want something small and easy to carry around, tough decisions haha. The perfect one would probs be the DJI Mavic but its a little too expensive for me lol

      I believe there is the DJI Spark coming out. But no foldable arms. I got the Wingsland S6, $258 online. Flies only outdoors with at least 7 GPS satellites. Came with 3 batteries. Was tempted by the Breeze. 288 on Amazon. But less portable. Actually the still shot of the Dobby seems more detailed than the Breeze's

    Great video Bo! Sorry but I can't see so much difference from the Dobby/Breeze video in terms of stabilization. Which one is more stable when in journey/orbit mode?
    Thanks bo !

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can't see much difference, journey / orbit mode about the same, you see a bit of jitter in the dobby image at 400% my biggest issue is that I regularly get a bit of jello in the dobby. but if there is not a lot of wind, then the dobby is a fantastic pocket size camera platform. I find that i grab the breeze a bit more simply because it runs longer. I used to think there were a lot of image difference, and honestly was a bit surprised its so little.

    • @SkinsCook
      @SkinsCook 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think Breeze is slightly better in terms of built construction and image quality !

    • @bophoto

  • @NWguy83
    @NWguy83 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Bo, I am more interested in taking selfie pictures rather than selfie videos, which one would you personally pick for doing just that?

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The breeze flies longer and have a better camera, specially if you forget the stabilized and go for the full-frame image. you can do 3-4 takes of each shot to get a nice level one.

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to download the video to your phone. then transfer to the laptop.
      For "video purposes" I would take a look at a MarvicPro instead with a actual gimbal as the digitally stabilized video is kinda un-satisfying for actual video production.

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The video shot will be a video file you can edit into your project.
      the breeze can do a good job on a day with no wind at all. but give you 720p video quality.
      im using the mavic for that kinda shots, its super compact, easy to fly and the tripod mode is perfect for this kinda aerial-dolly-shots

      Agree, the Aibao will be interesting, the firmware I have don't yet allow recording. so I have to wait for the updated camera hardware and firmware ha ha. thats the downside of playing with prototypes, you kinda have to imagine how some of the parts will work and then revisit once they ship.

    Love your videos! Would it be possible to see a DJI Spark vs Yuneec Breeze video? I'm trying to think if the Spark's price tag is worth it (its $500 for 1080p video BUT with a 2 axis gimbal. You have to pay an extra $150 to get the 1.2mile max flight distance too). I'm wondering which would be a better first-timer drone. Thanks!

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      As soon as I get hold of a spark we will be doing a comparison.
      gut feeling, spend the $150 for the 2 axis gimbal - much better image quality.

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Spark is definitely worth it, better video and more range. Im sick and tired of breeze / Doby only going 80ish feet.

    • @jjsf9378
      @jjsf9378 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I think even without the controller, the Spark will fare better because it has a gimbal. Can't wait to see your review once it's released. Cheers

    • @jjsf9378
      @jjsf9378 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Spark sells for $499 without controller (max distance 100m max height 50m) and with the controller which costs an extra $150, you supposedly get up to 1.2 miles distance

    great video. my main concern is how does it fly against wind? lost one drone in the ocean at the beach due to that RIP
    and how would you compare the breeze to the Xiro?

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      DON'T expect a WiFi drone to give you a lot of chances when flying in the wind.
      The breeze is pretty heavy and flies well in the wind. take a look at my first Breeze video :-)
      For the beach / ocean, get something like the Autel xStar

    • @jeff05989
      @jeff05989 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was flying my breeze yesterday in my apt courtyard (no wind) and was connected to 9-11 gps w/ blue signal. I put it in selfie mode and it started drifting to the left and crashed into a fence. Do you know why it would do that? I had just calibrated the compass before i did that too

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gamy guess is that you probably was controlling it when you tilted the phone, being in selfie mode just mean looking at you.
      But without being there I have no way of saying what actually happened.

    • @jeff05989
      @jeff05989 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh there is tilt control?? is it possible to turn that off?

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      In selfie mode you are still driving, its flying based on your handling of the phone when you move the sticks. If I recall correctly you can choose to use "sticks" on the screen or angering the phone, if you are using sticks it should not accept angle. however if you are flying, you want to not engage in any other app, dont pick up phone calls, ONLY operate the aircraft. and land before you try operate anything else

    The colours between the two seem different also - the DObby colours seem a little more washed out...
    Also funny to think the new Go Pro Karma doesn't even have the follow me feature that these two do!!

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kinda Nikon, canon, panasonic, sony thing, colors are all subjective. and can easily be tweaked in post. (most of the time.)
      Not entirely sure why the Karma was released without the follow me option, its something there is a big demand for in the market. however I have a theory, that they deliberately left the karma as a very simple easy to fly sticks only quad, meant to fly pretty slowly most of the time with fairly unexperienced pilots, I suspect the Karma is being marketed to the action-cam market that is not particularly RC geeks, but athletes and don't want a lot of layers of features to familiarize themselves with. this could turn out to be a super smart move.. or a big mistake.. we should know by winter how many Karma's we see in the wild.

    That was a great review, It seemed like there may have been some "jerkyness"in the videos from the breeze and the dobby?

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, sorry, it was a bit windy. but I think the main message come across, trying to show exactly how the images play in real life at the same scene / light

    • @DoItYourselfDad
      @DoItYourselfDad 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you think the jerkyness is a result of the digital stabilization? The prop guards you make for the Breeze are awesome BTW, Im looking at picking up a Breeze, do you sell those guards?

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Frank put the guards on his website already.
      The jerkiness was because the aircraft bounced a bit. the breeze dont do 100% stabilization, only take about 75% out, to preserve more resolution. result you get a bit of movement, shoot early morning and its rock stable.

      I totally agree with you about the size of the Dobby, I love how easy it fit in my backpack, however I fly the breeze more.
      BTW these things all crash, 200grams or not, you need to make sure its not in a position to hurt anyone ever.

    Being that the Dobby is a selfie drone it takes great pics and the video is just an add on It has excellent range and flys excellent indoors and out doors after seeing your comparison I will not bother with the breeze

      correct as if I want to take selfie videos I would use the Phantom 3 standard which is the same price as the breeze and far better

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it is. the main reason of existence for the Dobby & Breeze is portability. they only make sense if you need the smaller form factor

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hobby, this may be my fault, the main camera was recorded in 24fps, and the Breeze and Dobby both record 30fps. in retrospect I should have confirmed the 24fps to 30fps.

    I got a dobby or maybe I should say, I used to have a Dobby (as my 3rd drone) I had 2 crashes with it. first crash, I was doing roof inspection. 1st attempt of roof inspection went smooth. Drained whole battery for 7 min. 2nd roof inspection, went smooth first 4 minutes then suddenly it flew backwards slowly by itself and i lost control. hit a wall, then crashed about 2 stories down. 2 arms totally went off but was just help by the wires for the motors. Had to send it back to zerotech for repair free of charge. But I paid for shipping ofcourse. they shipped back for free. report from zerotech was that the compass went bad. but after it was repaired, I was able to use it alot with no issues. until today, I flew (launch) it from a bridge of 20 meters high and 60 meters away from a waterfall. just from take off, it just flew forward away from me/ away from the falls without even touching the controls. I tried to move it back towards me, and it did. but it did move all the way back and couldn't control it anymore. hit a tree, tumbled all the way 20m down from cliff to the shallow waters. I still had wifi connection to it. had 1 chance to relaunch it from water. flew about 2 feet but it just tumbled down again. I think due to water was already inside it. or maybe the arms weren't at its normal opening position. this time, it fell upside down so no way of relaunching it. and no way to get it back as it was not allowed and actually very dangerous to go down and walk along the foot of the falls. i am just not sure whether the compass was broken again. since it was moving by itself at full speed. first compass breakdown during roof inspection, it was atleast moving slowly. anyhows, just sharing my experience with my Dobby. maybe i just got a bad unit. hopefully this wont happen to people buying it. portablity wise, I think it's the best. nice pics and videos. But unfortunately, from 3 months of using it, I have to say bye bye Dobby. Planning to replace it with Breeze. Which has motorized camera vertical panning which the dobby didn't have. and it has almost twice more flight time than the Dobby.

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      OUCH. I feel your pain.
      Particularly Dobby are definitely promoting the Dobby as something that is a "real" drone. the truth of the matter is its a WiFi only drone, connection is never going to be better than the WiFi connection, this also limits the range.
      The second thing that makes a huge difference here is how good the GPS lock is. I always wait a bit to get more than required number of GPS's preferably a lot more :-)
      That said, breeze and Dobby are both WiFi units. take a look at a P3pro or P3standard.. or a Autel xStar. those are solid units with actual control links. I would not suggest a breeze or Dobby for roof-inspections ;-)

    Is 12V charger available for either one ?.

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      thats a great question.
      simple answer is "NO"
      However the DOBBY have a USB charger, which takes about 2 hours to charge using usb port.
      I purchased a small inverter basically a boxy cigarette lighter with a 110 socket, and that works great with the Breeze charger and charge the breeze battery in about 20-30 minutes

  • @norwegianflyer1593

    Bo - I watched you videos and they are good. BUT you have to get a lav to record your voice. The mic you have on your camera picks up too much wind.
    I would love to share you videos (as you want us to do) but I can´t since the audio is so bad. A lav from Røde cost almost nothing and connects to a smart phone.

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL Well sorry my audio dont live up to your expectations, this video is a exception though, I normally use a fairly tight directional mic in the office.
      I have a Sennheiser with a dead-cat that does fantastic outside. but its not much good laying to the desk in the office.
      For the record, I totally agree with you, the audio on this particular video sucks. :-)

    • @bophoto
      @bophoto  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL you are killing me. :-) that was not worse. But I do agree 100% it was not perfect by any definition. Im sorry, and I do hear this as much as you do. and it bugs me also. I just kinda had to run with it when the guys at Yuneec unexpected gave me the chance to go do a preview with the BREEZE with no warning when I was visiting.
      in the microphones defense, it was quite windy that day. but yes. you are right, I need to improve the location audio significantly.
