I don't know that I have this ability as an ACOA, but I do think I instead am very skeptical and distrusting of people even when I have no reason to be.
Because alcoholics have altered personalities and children see that they are talking to another personality. I lived through this and how they make you sick through undermining, gaslighting, intimidation, blackmailing, dependence, and control of your decisions is a trait of alcoholic parents.
This is so true that we who suffer from living ACOA lives can see narcissist a mile away. We can live better and I am determined to live a better life!
I became very good at detecting my mom if she’s drunk or not and if she’s lying on a regular basis when I was growing up for decades .She would tell me she didn’t drink when she sounds and smells like booze.And I became very good at finding her booze too in most odd ways.Anyway,my point is,my mom’s alcoholism taught me so much .
I just hope that ACOA's don't make decisions based on what they suspect other people's hidden motives MAY be, without checking it out more closely first.

You can't kid a kidder or an empath... Highly sensitive,vigilant. I'm 11 years sober no AA.. child of an alcoholic, dysfunctional family. ACA ..
