      Am not sure. Hopefully the adults were able to drive the coyote away... realistically fawn's chances are pretty slim in this case

      @@onhuntingjourney1547 But there were two does chasing behind. So unless it was a pack of coyotes, there is a chance the deer were able to fight of the coyote, but then again, not sure if the heavy foresting would work in the deer’s favor.

      @@dbzgal04 A healthy deer can run at least 40mph, in addition, deer’s endurance should be longer than the coyote, at least in theory. The coyote’s advantage is surprise. Once that is gone, the deer has the advantage.

    IF there are fawns...there are pups.
    It's called the food chain, and everything needs to eat, even coyote pups.
    We'd be doing the exact same thing if someone wasn't doing it for us. 🙂
    There is a follow-up video, and it seems the fawn survived without injury.

      Ya there’s no way to know if that was the fawn in video or if it was the fawn of one of the 2 does that came in to distract the coyote. Sounded like it got caught after the action went off camera

    That was incredibly intense and absolutely fascinating. Imagine a life like this; as a fawn, you’re being hunted 24/7, your only defense mechanisms being scentless, motionless, and camouflage. The mother Doe, with every motherly impulse inducing her to stay with her newborn, an evolved survival instinct wins, and compels her to leave for up to 36 hours at a time, so as to draw away predators. The coyote, who must hunt to eat, and if he fails too often, his family won’t survive.
    And then you have us humans, watching their struggles on our IPads, in a comfy Barca lounger, with pizza and beer (not Bud Light of course).

      The cries of terror and despair "impress" you. I have a better solution. First check if your empathy levels are ok with a psychologist. Second, humans can control animal populations through sterilisation and hence keep numbers at a manageable level. As for predators like Coyotes, sterilise them all and their species will end. That way they can no longer terrorise other living creatures, that includes humans and human owned pets.

      Sterilisation is VERY expensive. One has to first trap/dart all animals to be sterilized thus its simply not practical to do so..

    • @onhuntingjourney1547
      @onhuntingjourney1547  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yes. Pretty much all large/midsize carnivores(coyotes/wolves/bears/cougars etc..) hunt fawns in spring due to lack of other nutrition and easy target. I read somewhere that deer moms even eat fawns poop in first few weeks after birth, just to keep the scent down and not attract any predators in the area.

      We saw our first coyote about 5 years ago. At that time we saw multiple deer on almost every outing. Now we hear coyotes every night yipping as they chase their prey in the valley. They run in about a 3/4 mile circle and sometimes we can hear them howl and then they are growling, we believe they are fighting over the deer they just killed. We have recently found fawns laying in a pasture and the next day instead of the fawn there would be a pile of fur remaining. We now seldom see a deer on our 300 acre hunting area! Yes coyotes decimated our deer population and other Hunter friends all over the state of Georgia tell us similar findings. Coyotes were once rare in Georgia but the legend is that some fox hunters 40 years ago with a scarcity of coyotes imported some from out west to hunt. Ironically they also reduce the fox population in areas that they have moved into.
