I understand your point. But it's a bit easy to forget about the animals that have no problem killing their own offspring, or the offspring of others.

It's kind of insane how the modern concept of animals is that they're just objects, and we're the only subjects in existence.
Animal "science" for the past century has mostly involved cramming things into glass boxes with food games, giving them numbers instead of names, and torturing them into mechanical behavior. Then we called animals boring idiots. That's where behaviorism has gotten us. Bleak and useless.
But things are changing for the better. Scientists are dropping behaviorism for ethology. Ethology, the study of animals' _character_ in nature, rather than just the _behavior_ we manipulate out of them in unnatural places. Where animals get names, peers, and stories. I'm hoping future generations won't need that reminder.

I don't think she sounded entitled, I think she just sounded like a kid. If she was entitled, I think she would have been complaining about the fawn the whole time, but instead she was trying to help out. She sounds too young to have a job, even babysitting, but old enough to be given semi-expensive stuff with a warning to be careful not to break it. And, after the animals were safe, she noticed something that she likely used had gotten damaged -- like a kid who saw the family's stuff broken by something outside their control despite their best efforts not to break it.

Typical asinine idealistic comment. Things like this are going to happen no matter what when you have wildlife living close to people. Animals have drowned in swimming pools, gotten trapped under homes, are routinely hit by cars, have been mutilated under the hoods of cars when starting engines, had their heads stuck in fences, the list is endless. It is impossible for the average person with everything they have going on in their lives to imagine all the ways animals could be harmed let alone animal proof their yard. Things like this happen and its unfortunate. The dear was saved and will have an interesting story to tell his friends in the woods.

I really appreciate videos like these where people are helping animals. A few things, though. When approaching animals with sharp objects like knives & scissors it's better to conceal them than flaunt them in front of their terrified eyes; they know the functions of such things & they are not blessed with the insight that humans are trying to help. Shooting an animal in distress instead of the actual rescue helps no one, & it makes for a stressful video, so, maybe, one can refrain from shooting if they are terrified to be attacked by a petrified animal. & Lastly, keeping a net down when not in use is a great practice. Baby animals break their legs, birds tear their wings off because we are too lazy to fold up a freaking net.

Do not fault her for what she didn't do, at least she got on the phone and called her husband who came to mama and babies rescue. Instead have being a great reuniting of mama and her baby it could have had some injuries to all. Deer are wild creatures! You never know when they may think you are harming instead of helping. I know that stags can take a large man to the ground and stomp him to death or leave them with serious, debilitating injuries! If I were by myself with a young child I would have had to wait for another adult to be there. She was talking out to the doe when he was cutting the baby from the net thus distracting her from the situation. I'm just thankful that they were reunited with no injuries to the animals or humans! What a great ending for all, and yes she did mention Haley quite a few times, but maybe she is as proud of Haley as much as that mama doe was of her little fawn! God doesn't like ugly!

Agree. Saw another video where an owl got tangled in one and needed medical help because the nylon rope wound too tightly around its wing. It’s our responsibility to take that net down when we’re not using it, but yeah some people don’t think nets kill animals.

I question how worried this woman really was about the safety of the baby deer because she didn't have the sense to put the camera down and help hold the deer while he was freeing it. The baby could have broken its leg, etc. caught in the net like that. More and more, people are all about the 'drama' of something, instead of 'doing' what needs to be done to help.

I agree. She stood there filming and made no move to help, when she could have gotten a pair of scissors her own damn self and done the job in no time. How long did it take the husband to show up?

A motivated Whitetail deer can do real damage to you. If you tried to free the fawn solo, mama deer would see you as a threat to her baby and send you to the ER. Having one person to get the fawn free and another to run interference for mama deer is a good strategy. Leaving to get the scissors may cause the fawn to thrash about even more when you come back outside, when you might not need scissors at all.

      2. She needed to watch for her own kid (Haley) so she doesnt get hurt.

I used to work in an area highly populated with dear. When they are scared and skittish like the mother was they can cause a lot of harm. Possibly even kill you if it’s a buck around. She did the right things ensuring she had help and kept herself and own children safe. Stop being so judgmental
