I love the video game feel that you described 🥰

I think it's a really nice feature of this game, too! It reminds me of Near and Far with its town board and map board: rest and gain equipment and then venture out to explore and adventure! Although I'd say FLOE has significantly more moving parts than Near and Far! ❄️

Great video, I love how you summed up all the content in such a quick concise way. I’m trying to find more information about what the solo play will be for Floe. I’m a solo gamer and would love to back this game, but I’m concerned that the solo mode automa will not be something I’d be interested in. Do you have any plans on doing a preview / review of their solo system.

Hey there! Thank you so much for your comment-I'm also a huge solo gamer and have been looking forward to finding out more about the solo mode as well but unfortunately I've got no insider scoop for you! I'm sure it's something they're developing at the moment but I haven't done any playtesting or anything for this game so I couldn't tell you anything about the solo game! Why don't I reach out to someone at PIKA games and see if I can get at least a little insight into how the solo mode will work? I'll report back as soon as I get an answer! ❄️

@BoardGameDave Have you heard anything back from Pika about the solo game yet? Just curious. Thanks!

I don't recall getting a response but I'm sure there will be more details about the solo mode coming soon! ❄️

You mentioned Scythe twice and one of the mentions of the gameplay you brushed over reminded me of Scythe. Scythe is one of my 5, out of 1,000 played, games I'd like to never play again (I give every game two chances even if I did not enjoy it the first time). Does this game have anything in common with Scythe? My most concerning being "do things just to do things; extra mechanics for the sake of extra mechanics."
Conversely, you showed a shot of Brass: Birmingham and Concordia early on too: two games I own that in my top tier of games I enjoy very much.
    Thanks for your insights.

Thank you for such an interesting comment! That's so funny because I love Brass: Birmingham and Concordia... and Scythe, too! (In fact, the last time I ranked my favorite games, Scythe was at #3 just above Brass: Birmingham at #4!) The only reason I brought up Scythe in this video is because of the "race to six" element in both games: six points in FLOE and six stars in Scythe. Beyond that, there aren't many similarities although if you're not a fan of "extra mechanics for the sake of extra mechanics", this game in its current iteration might not be for you! As I mentioned, there's worker placement and a mancala system and exploration on a map and push-your-luck and action points and engine building and tags and dice combat... they definitely threw in everything but the kitchen sink at this one! 🤣 We'll see how they streamline the game going forward after getting a lot of feedback from people playing the prototype!

@@BoardGameDaveThat mish-mash of mechanisms sound really good! 😀
(BTW, I am not a big fan of Scythe, either... I am not exactly why - maybe because I don't like how you could have accumulated a bunch of resources, just to have to make a decision whether you want to continue and put them at risk, or put them down.)

I'm glad the mish-mash of mechanisms sounds appealing to you! It can be overwhelming at first when you're trying to learn the game but I found that it clicked by my second playthrough! ❄️ And I actual love that about Scythe-that your resources are on the board and can be taken by another player! It seems more thematic and realistic that way! ☺️

can we have top 5 reasons you should not back FLOE too?

    • @BoardGameDave
      @BoardGameDave  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

Sure thing! In fact, I'll give you eight reasons you might not want to back FLOE! ❄️
      1. You don't like games with a whole lot of various mechanisms going on at once.
      2. You don't want a cute and cozy game or a game that's heavy on rules. (Think 30+ minute teach!)
      3. You don't like the video game-esque idea of spending some of your turns stocking up in the town/village and then going out to explore the world and defeat monsters.
      4. You don't enjoy or have the patience for gradually leveling up your character, items, familiar, etc. and you don't get a sense of satisfaction from seeing that sort of development in games.
      5. You don't like how restrictive this game is with points and would rather play a game where you're scoring more than 6-12 points per game.
      6. You don't like the aesthetics, art style, or world building of FLOE.
      7. You don't think this game is worth $70+shipping and prefer more affordable games or just don't want to spend that much money at the moment.
      8. You're just not a fan of Kickstarters in general and/or you don't like the idea of waiting over a year to receive a game that you purchased. (This is me most of the time!)
Hope you find that list helpful! Let me know if you have any other questions! ☺️
