My friend had a 2.4T version of that V70N model. 5 speed manual and front wheel drive with over 350,000km. The rear muffler was deleted and it sounded amazing even though it only had 200hp. That car was amazingly fun to drive because it was so easy to spin tires with and go fast in. So just as a stock family car the turbo Volvos are super fun to drive. You’ve chosen an amazing car to tune my friend! Enjoy your journey! Let that inline5 know that it lives but be careful with it too. Would suck to see that R die!

I've had a 2.4t for about 5 years. I bought it PURELY because I hated a hire car when I was away from home, so much, that I refused to drive it any further (Opel Insignia, or Buick in the States). It has been a flawless driving experience. Obviously, in the 5 years, it's had work done, it's an old car, but 9/10ths of the new hire cars I've driven have not been better cars. 200bhp is a little bit less than it could do with, but honestly, the P2 Volvo, in my opinion, is the most underrated car I've ever driven.
I also have a P2 T5, slightly modified here and there. It is mad. Although people in the know are aware it's a good car, they still usually think BMWs are better. Sorry, that's just not true. They're different, they're not better.

Great videos :) i had a V70 XC , my Sugestion 2.4T ended up with 248hp with the 13T, later i upgrade tô16T still a low pressure turbo but with 286hp and 420Nm. Sugestion: take a good looks até the trothle body, they get dirty.
Get a turbo blanket!( The engine bay soaks alot of heat!)
Clean injectores with ultra sound.
assuming PCV is fine, upgrade the airbox to turbo piping.
Upgrade TCV Valve( snabb/IPD) can make wonderdulls!
Upgrade IC ,
Review the ignition system, Iridium plugs, and better ign coils.
Check ideal the dual VVC are inline with the polly,
An old MAF sensor can limit the car..same with o2,
Finnaly, reduce friction- Ceratec. And dissipate heat, you got a Water cooler turbo-mocool,
Angle gear, toped up, with the breader cleaned,
rigid strur bars ( a new car is borned!)

Hey Gregson make sure you keep an eye on the angle gear. They don't hold up well with stock horsepower, from the look on your face u have definitely increased your power numbers 😁

They hold up fine, unless you try to launch the car. I suspect the people complaining of angle gear failure were launching the cars. I know damn well they can't do it, or won't survive long if one tries successive launches. It's like the early GTR's with their transmission blowing up for the same reason. There's a lot of bullshit floating around about these cars.
There are plenty of people with 150k on stock angle gear. No clutch drops on dry pavement...

Patrick Madden - I highly doubt that. When I say launch, I don't mean just accelerate away, I mean a lot of people rev up and drop the clutch at 5k and that's usually when shit goes wrong.
I had a V70R and a S60R both 04, both 6MT. I tuned the S60, had upgraded inter cooler, down pipe cat less and exhaust, best sounding 5 cal engines. The problem with these engines is thin walls and the blocks crack, ask me how II know. I sold my V after my S went kaboom, is the only car I truly regret selling. Mine was exactly as this guy’s.

You should do the OBX DOWNPIPE and Snabb intercooler and piping.
Have the 8Eight fab DP and full turboback.

ShiftingLanes +1 to the Snabb IC, I just got one installed on my 04 V70R M66 and it makes a HUGE difference, it pulls way more effortlessly and spools much quicker as well!
Guys what exactly u mean can u tell me what IC are u talking about? I would be glad if you find ebay link or smthing like that, and what exhaust do you have Gregson? What size turboback?
Personally I like the do88 intercooler kit, the end tanks have a real nice shape and it's solid as hell.

I love your v70r inspired me to buy one
I have an 06 s60r with a Hilton stage 2 tune (with the cat delete and mgp booster options. 3inch turboback exaust with a cat delete, custom ote pipe with a tial bov. Rebuilt engine for the cylinder walls. A new turbo with a 11in wheel off of Viva performance. Ipd coipack, bigger bosh injectors. Bushings for the ipd motor mounts. Ipd sway bar, ipd bushings, Idp inter cooler piping with a fuzzy fmic ,Forged cbv, and Durlin subframe bushings. I love the car it sounds amazing rides great and suprisingly beats most cars on that I come across here on the highways or CT.

I had a mk2 Ford St 07 with cat back, intake and boost valve done. 222hp and 320nm from factory. The 5 pot is nice engine. Torgue monster, broke both sides cv joints under 110k km. Usually they change bigger ones when tuning those. And the clutch can be a issue.
I noticed on the dash it says mpg 20.1. I've got the same model v70r a DVD had similar mileage until the computer on the fuel pumps on the gas tank was replaced and it jumped too 27-32mpg traveling at the same speeds and journey types. I shudder to think how much money i wasted during 140,000 miles at 7mpg less per tank! Just something you may want to check out. Love the videos, thank you.

Hopefully you don't have the same issue I did. I went straight from stage 0 to 2.5 with full bolt ons. Car pulled like a monster, for 2 days until the clutch decided it didn't like 22psi of boost. It had about 65k on it, still had a bunch of material left too. It just couldn't handle anything over about 18psi. Now I'm running out of fuel pressure, need to get an aftermarket pump installed. Still 100% recommend everything though, butt dyno says anywhere between 330-360whp. My friend has a Evo X tuned to about 380whp, he doesn't get very far ahead.
Had the same grin when my 1998 S70 T5 chirped in 2nd gear after my tune. I have a green ARD tune. Looks like Hilton doesn’t do 1998 S70’s. The last missing piece for me is a reverse intercooler pipe. Can’t wait to see your next dyno pull.

Hi, I have a question, does it still pull timing to save itself from overheating or pinging ?
Hang on did you make your V70 a manual transmission ? Would I be able to tune my 2004 V70 without changing the trans ?
I have a manual.. They are pretty rare but a lovely gearbox and much better economy over the auto.
You can tune an auto... Will just need to get gearbox mapped as well to make it worth while.

So this is the Hilton base 'tune' ... since you didn't send him logs, him altering to zero-in and improve anything, you reprogramming that result in?
Also assume you have traction control OFF if that thing is actually chirping tires. Those differentials aren't posi, so it'd be chirping one front tire more likely.
Correct. Hilton bass tune. Wanted to give you the reaction I had from just doing that. Which was pretty significant.

-do88 makes some real nice pipes and intercoolers that bolt on really easily and follow factory routing
-if you're reading this and you're using the automatic gearbox in a non-r but otherwise tuning a 2001-2007 P2 platform turbocharged inline five, you should do a transmission adaptation if you're like Gregson and already have a stage 2'd engine, dyno time, a dice unit and a laptop. Or book dyno time and do your transmission adaptation over three runs. Sonnax recommends doing the adaptation stages at 200 RPM higher than Volvo.

I want to do this to my 04 XC70. Already have an Elevate Catback exhaust and K&N filter but that's it. Just the bigger unbaffled exhaust made a big difference

This software can be use for non R volvos?
I drive a tuned and bolted Legacy GT and your car seems my style as well. Nice interior and wagon. I'm gonna have to start waving to Volvo R drivers. If you like those pops from exhaust you should hear my car lol. Get a nice pair of mufflers you'll be hearing those sounds constantly.
Yeah you dident hit lock up that was just the front it takes way way more than that to spin all 4. But hiltons the man! And if your catless thows pops will usually spit small flames at night its amazing :]
Tip: keep you pc also on adapter outlet power....if you pc shuts down during flashing...well bricking your ECU is possible...
Correct. Excellent point. My PC has a 12 hour battery life so I was good as it had full charge. Only used 3% of battery power to flash.

This is an R... but is the tune you're doing going to work with any of the 5234T variants? I ask because I may have a 1999 V70 XC AWD using ME7 on a 5234T3. Any help appreciated!
after i did this tune last week with keys in "position 2" , i got the Service SRS airbag light message. No idea how to turn it off. any ideas? how do you log as well with the Hilton software without the parameter file? Wont even Let me log anything without this file. Love the tune tho!

not to destroy your happines,if u really want a challenge.Buy a saab 9000 2,3 turbo and do the same. Make sure u have the longblock,not the shortblock,becouse the longblock is stronger.There are some really sick builds here in sweden,theres a guy that runs with twin turbos on a 2.0 l motor he puts out about 450hp at the crank.And thats not even close to the limmit of these engines.Both the 2,3 longblock and the 2.0 l engines are very strong engines.That was my ide of your next project.

i own a saab 9000 2,3 longblock turbo cd(sedan) and it has been tuned to 245hp,automatic gearbox,not so fast 1 and 2,but when the 3 rd gear goes in,it really goes . And has adjustable dampers and stainless steel exust.Runs very good.Ps,sorry for my bad spelling.ds u rock. will say this,if u tune a car with all the upgrades u can find,it will eat most of the cars u can think of
Not sure you're using "long block" and "short block" correctly. A short block is typically a block, pistons, rods, and crank. A long block is a short block plus the head(s). Perhaps you mean "small block" and "big block" if one is 2.0l and the other is 2.3l.
But I agree, SAAB made some ridiculously over built engines. The problem is the bullet proof engine in the 9000 has a weak trans, and bullet proof trans in a 9-5 has a meh engine.

Do you already changed the Haldex from the AWD? With the Haldex from the XC90/XC70 yout had an 50/50 (V70 = 80/30).

Stock is 300/300 so I’d say 350-375 because you’ll have to tune with the IC.

Any time is the answer. The 2.5s are inherently weak but it’s unlikely you’ll crack below 400. Especially if you don’t drive it hard all the time. Mine is the 2.5

Quick question....where can I get the windshield side drip rubber moldings? They were dry rotted and everyone wants over $300 for them. Any cheaper places you know of. 2004 s60r manual!

So are you looking for the moldings on the side of the windshield or the small rubber cowlings at the base of the windshield near the hood?

Ah ok. Those are discontinued. The people quoting you that money is a bit high, but they won’t be OEM so is slightly justified. That promise is insane though.
Why would it blow up?
It is not a Ford or something like that!
Some dice boxes have Bluetooth and some has a USB connection, SPA and CMA cars can be connect by a special wireless connection or a cable, when updating or remapping software on any newer Volvo you should connect a battery charger, why?
Newer Volvos has “a problem” with power hungry radio/infotainment systems and other power hungry stuff, when using the diagnostics tools most systems are active in some form, if the battery where to die while your remapping or updating the ECU and other involved components will or might be bricked.

One of my relatives that worked at Volvo Torslanda was approached and offered to work with the Focus RS project, (the mk2 Focus RS).
The Mk2 Focus RS is a Volvo in Fords clothing, literally.
But think about it, Ford got the incredible five cylinder volvo engine and help with the Focus RS project and then they forced Volvo to use their horrible "short issac" six cylinder pile of junk and detune the five cylinder to be able to sell those horrible six cylinder, WTF!
The NA six cylinder was out preformed in every way by the low bost inline five, but still they forced Volvo to sell cars with it and on top of that it was mated to one of the worst automatic transmission in the world (The 6 speed "power shit" gear box).
He has told me about how f*cking awful Ford was to deal with, "They cheep out on everything, where rude, impossible to work with, ignorant and extremely self centered".
Those story's about how badly some of the people working at volvo was treated by Ford are one of the things that has fueled my burning hatred against Ford.

I think you need serious tyres now
We have Michelin Pilot Sport 4Ss all the way around. Arguably the best summer street tire made right now. The ground was a little wet when filming so that contributed to more wheel spin than I would have liked, but the rubber is serious. Only about 2,000 miles on them. Highly recommend.

how many m3's has it killed so far?
Was there an upgrade made to the intercooler before stage 2? Just curious because my V70R has all necessary mods complete for stage 2, EXCEPT for intercooler.
No IC upgrade. Depends on your tuner. For Hilton stage 2 you need to go stage 0 and have a full turboback. Stage 2.5 is with IC, intake, and required piping. IC install coming soon.

Two questions... Do FCP Euro do parts for Aston Martin and do you know if they supply to Europe?
Unfortunately no AM parts. Having an Aston, I would LOVE for them to do those parts but I asked. No plans yet to expand to them. They are focusing on their core customer base first. Which from a business stand point makes the most sense.
FCP does supply to Europe for all other parts though.

Mind my asking where you got your DICE unit? I have been meaning to get one since I got my R back in 2012 but never did get to it because on the sweedspeed forum people were talking about knock off versions where you had to do a bunch of nonsense to get it to work. But effectively $800 v. $1200+ or so. All kinds of conflicting info. Now that these cars are getting older it's time for me to get one of those so I can figure out all the bugs that are going to inevitably show up. :/

Me - changes intake manifold, injectors, camshafts and exhaust.... "I successfully tuned my first car!" lol. Remapping a turbo is so easy it barely classes as tuning. That said I do love the Volvo T5, a real shame that Ford stopped using them in their cars, just look at how crappy and unreliable the Ecoboost (Ecoboom) is...failures after less than 20k!

Someone tuning volvos in North Jersey!
I had a Focus ST with the 2.5 5cyl Volvo engine. Cracked a cylinder liner at 32k miles (tuned by mountune).

Hilton blew two of my t5 engines...05 R and 06 xc70. Cars were running too much knock in both tunes and subsequently cracked a sleeve in each....both were down within 4 months of one a other. Hilton took zero responsibility and doubt he even reviewed my logs I provided during the tuning process.
Response time with Gustav is 10x better and his tunes are safer. Also, hope your going to run meth as a safety to keep knock to a minimum. Even at stage 2, this helps keep your investment safe.

Far as I can tell you did not tune anything, you read and flashed/uploaded a modified file done by another tuner. Tuning is defined as adjusting the data table settings inside a file. Correct me if I am wrong.
Tuning is any sort of modification to the ECU. At least that is what I’ve read and been taught. I’ve already logged files for Hilton and sent them. So it’ll be flashed with a revised tune soon.

Data logs are sent to the tuner, tuner updates timing, boost, ect based off the that specific car. Reflashes new tune files
So he did not do any tuning. Hilton did it remotely.

I have been tuning EFI systems for over 16 years and have adjusted the file settings on literally thousands of files/cars, on and off the dyno and both on-site and remotely. You can discuss semantics all day long but in the end the driver did not do any tuning. He only read and uploaded a file that was tuned by a remote tuner.
Comparing a V70 to an M3 is heresy.. and i have a significantly modified s40 t5 for 6 years.

ShiftingLanes Gotcha. I had an S70 T5 for 6 years. Tune + full bolt (close to 300whp). My dream car while I had the S70 was a BMW 335i. Currently, living the dream. 😁
Nice! Congrats man! Hansen, another Co-Founder on this channel (see the project BRZ playlist), had a 2007 335i. Was awesome.

It’s going away. Apparently it was an option on these from some dealers. It’s a Sony so not sure if it’s Volvo or aftermarket. But it’ll be gone when we redo the headliner.

It's a shame Volvo didn't had dark headliners back then. Allthough... The 960 had it! I hate cars with a dark interior combined with a light coloured hardliner.
BTW.. are there Diesel V70 in the USA? I never seen one. I drive a V70 D5. Before this one i had a 6 speed manual S60 D5. Tuned and really fast! had like 235hp but i had 550nm! It smoked a Golf7 GTi from a rolling start

Agree on the upper color. Wish it was a darker color to match the plastics, but it’s not as bad with the Atacama interior. With the nordkap only it’s so much more noticeable.
I’m honestly not sure on the diesels. I have never seen one, but I’m only in one state and haven’t really looked for any. I doubt it as diesel cars here are very rare. No one buys them.
not to be a douche, i know volvos can be tuned pretty heavily. but thats also the case with bimmers. so i highly doubt it will be a bimmer killer.
