    Distressor Part II would be awesome. Thanks for the breakdown, I definitely benefited from this tutorial. It's one of those compressors that's hard to know what it's actually doing because every tweak makes the compression almost entirely different. It definitely made me reach for it less because of how overwhelming it seemed.

    Ive been using the UAD Distressor for quite some time. I can say that it is very good especially on vocals it surprised me actually. I will say that if you really crank it, you will start to hear a noticeable difference compared to the hardware unit but since I'm not using it that aggressively it does a really great job within my workflow.

      There are videos on TH-cam doing this. Lots of guys with the hardware say they are hard pressed to hear the difference at all, especially in a mix. There will always be some differences with relation to what your setup is and how the analog components output. But this is probably one of UAD's better results of giving you what a hardware unit gives you.

    You said bypass is a great button for saving the performance of your UAD Equipment.

    The thing with the dual bypass buttons may also have to do with audible clicking when bypassing using the switch on some DAWs when the processing is cut off, compared to a more seamless transition when just bypassing the effects with them still running in the background. It's a bit of a knish reason to have something, but it's for sure something I've noticed in the past with certain plug ins that have both an on off, and a bypass button.

    • @sony_mdr7506
      @sony_mdr7506 ปีที่แล้ว

      i definitely notice this with some plugins in ableton and its always such a hassle to get rid of the clicks, so i do appreciate this

    • @DaftFader
      @DaftFader ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sony_mdr7506 Yeah it's especially helpful when automating effects that punch in/out at certain times. It's useually caused by the daws inbuilt delay compensation for plug ins skipping or jumping back a few samples when a latency causing plug in is turned on or off.
      Some DAWs have their own internal bypass that doesn't change the delay of anything when bypassing, but not all, and even when they have it, it's not always on by default afaik.

    • @crookman42
      @crookman42 ปีที่แล้ว

      it may be more "authentic", but in a very stupid way. The thing with analog gear is, that you can use it with 2 hands simulatenously to turn one knob up and another one down. You can't do this with your mouse cursor, therefore adding autogain (better yet: switchable and/or adjustable autogain) would actually match the original hardware experience better

    I've generally found that UAD plugins are overly CPU hungry compared to the likes of Arturia plugins which are better in every way. Sadly Arturia doesn't offer a Distressor yet.

    So is input basically gain and threshold in one? I recently started messing with a distressor plugin (Tukan Dis-Treasure) so I really appreciate the explanation!

      the treshold is fixed but when you drive it more it is like lowering the treshold and adding more makeup gain on a conventional unit.

    Save your setting with the name default, and that will open the plugin with the setting you wanted (or at least thats how it works in logic)

    Does the distressor have a hold functionality on release setting?
    If yes, then it's possible to create a vocal rider effect. 👍
    The fab comp has this function.
    Absolutely a must for every vocal recording.

      I personnally perfer the Sknote version of it (the Kiive audio is okay too but too much fiddeling)
      The real one by the company is okay but I really like the sknote take on it
      And of course the UBK1 is cool too

    so with auto-gain... I sort of agree with your two hands argument (you don't have two hands to gain match ITB).. HOWEVER, depending on your DAW you can map the input/output to a midi control surface, which I find better because you can do a small gain cut/boost if you want to.. put another way, I find plugins with "gain compensation" frustrating because they're often locked together, and quite often they're NOT actually 100 gain matched (because of the processing) which means A/B'ing is a nuisance

      Would love to have an accurate midi surface that is open source and easy to use 😛

      @@Whiteseastudio lol... idk about free and open-source hardware 😜 ... i use an Akai APC40, because the 8 encoders map to whatever plugin you're using and are easy to remap (at least in Ableton they are). between that and actual hardware i don't need to touch the computer much to mix or compose

    Quel dommage. On n'entend pas la bête au travail.
    What a pity. We don't hear the beast at work.
