I am curious if you still use this and find it works? Any changes? I just built one but I must not have enough stink added b/c it's not attracting many flys at this point. Any other chemical free fly mechanisms you find work well? I am desperate to get rid of these but don't want to use chemicals that affect dung beetles. Please advise.

Key is lots of sunlight so that the barrel is hot (and rotting and stinky). A larger glass plexiglass top to help heat the inside might help. The flies always take off in the direction of the light. Put it where there is hot sunny heat.

We do leave them sitting out in our pasture that gets a lot of sunlight. We have been using this method for a few years and it seems to be working well. we have dusted them with diatomaceous earth as well. We also have our chickens free ranging and something else we have used...we hooked a piece of cattle panel behind our quad and we drag the fields to spread out the manure so it dries faster so the larva don't have a chance to hatch. so sorry I am just seeing this question. we leave the barrels by the water bins.
