- Learn one of many innovations employed by Kevin Jahnke on his seasonal certified organic dairy farm in Lancaster, Wisconsin to manage flies. This video was filmed by Harriet Behar of the Midwest Organic and Sustainable Education Service (MOSES).
i have shown this video to several farmers, and have one farmer that I work with that has made 4 of them and they work great!
Kable Thurlow you think if I put this on my property were I live a couple block away from a chicken farm it be a waist of time and effort?
Awesome information. I just moved to the beach and the flies are insane. I've been experimenting with various methods to eradicate them. I Will be setting up a system like yours. God bless for the video
We are devising something similar but with escape holes at the bottom so that maggots crawl out and fall into containers underneath we dehydrate these and save them for the chicken-birds for winter feed supply! They likes em!
Thank you for posting
great idea
Thank you for the nice video. How do you secure the pvc to the holes in the barrel?
Great idea
He meant that he had to reset the bait to start the cycle again as it is spring. In other words, we had winter and the bait and odor from last summer/fall has dissipated, and it is time to recharge the system.
Fresh cow poop and dead rats are most excellent attractants. I would also add 2 more elbows on each intake pipes
Any measure of how much this reduces fly impact on your livestock, in buildings, and to neighbors? Nice concept
grate idea i dont live on a farm ,but i noticed in the summer the flies hang around my garbage cans, would that be a ok place for the barrel trap!
NICE!!
good stuff
أفضل فكرة رأيتها إلى الآن. ولكن ماهي المكونات التي بالداخل. بالتفصيل لو سمحت
The trap is nicely designed for some flies, but I question whether face flies and horn flies would enter this trap because these flies only lay eggs on fresh manure. Horn flies in particular do not like to enter shaded places. I'm not sure about stable flies as they prefer decomposing vegetation and manure. Other filth flies with a more generalist habit such as house flies may find this barrel worth a visit.
Jason Smith clear fresh manure version?
THX....MAN....WIIL DO....
What type of flies are you killing? Horse flies? Deer flies? Black flies? Common house flies? Biting flies?
أقصد المكونات التي بداخل البرميل التي تجذب الذباب. شكراً جزيلاً
Tell your neighbors! :-)
If parasitic wasps don't work for you This should like the next best thing. In
TX flies can get pretty bad.
Feed chickens with those pounds of dead/dying/baby flies?
downbntout minus the dish detergent
@@MarkSmith-wb2eh Just use a food grade surfactant in that case.
eventually there is not enough liquid to trap the flies do to the large amount of floating flies...
HaHa!, I have a friend named Kevin Jahnke in Central Point Oregon.
sound is terrible
Let the birds do the work.
