    I recently purchased a V4 s and found your assesmment accurate and highly informative. Whilst I have only done 840 km, I can however compare it to my previous Multi which was a 1260 S 2019 ...covered 14000 km on it. There is a HUGE difference between the two bikes and I must admit I was highly sceptical initially and kept evaluating the two bikes on a constant basis.
    Whilst I cannot comment on engine performance just yet, albeit to say that at 4000RPM in 6th gear the V4 accellerate instantly whilst the twin needed 2 gears down. Following are the significant improvements in my opinion:
    1) Syspension: The bike tracks extremely well ( much better than the twin) is much much responsive and feels more planted in long sweepers. I set the damping on Auto resulting that it adjust as road conditions vary..its really plush
    2)Comfort: Whilst I dont sit as deep, I found the seat very comfortable, perfect for long trips..The heated seat is extremely effective..caution
    3) Wind protection : Very little wind on my upper arms, hence much more effective.. the screen is an absolute joy to operate
    4) Electronics: The radar system is a nice to have but not such a big deal ,.,however, Blind spot indicators is a total WOW. . Its a huge safety feature and whist I dont rely on it fully( old habit) I use it as confirmation. The rest of the system is very modern and easy to operate..nothing to complain about
    5) Engine heat: Absolutely Zip..Zero.. I did experioence this on the twin in slow traffic but can honestly say that Ducati has this nailed.
    6) Ducati DNA: Ok..lets not kid ourselves, The 1260 twin has that incredible deep grumple that resonates in ones brain..its a total blast, especially with a full system .That mechanical noise and vibration is something you enjoy every time you ride and truthfully I miss that.. This bike is silky smooth, quite ( remings me of a Mazda rotary engine) zero vibration and rather stealth . Hence I questiion the continuous of Ducati's DNA..it has changed ..I did however order a full system and will hopefully be happy once fitted
    In conclusion..this is an incredible bike..pure and total enjoyment to ride an probablty the best bike I haver ever owned. I have no doubt that it superior on long trips and every department, easier to ride, more comfortable and hence I do not regret the switch ..I just miss the sound!!

    I did 767 from Madison, WI to Rapid City (and vice-versa) several times. On the way out followed by another long day from Rapid City to near Livingston, MT. Like an additional seven hours. But my buddy takes the cake. He rode my 1250 GS from Vail, CO non-stop to Madison, WI. Over 1,050 miles. And he pulled an all-nighter to do it. He forgot to bring boots so he used bungee cords to close his pants legs to the wind because he was freezing. When he arrived in Wisconsin, he became very ill. But to this day says it was worth it.

      Good choice on the V2 Multi. That's the one I'd probably buy. I plan to test ride a V4 this year and obviously it's an awesome bike, but I suspect for me, for where I live, for the roads I like best, the V2 would be better. I ride a Supersport 939 with touring pack now. Knowing generally how the V2-motored bike's engine would feel, I question whether a 60 hp increase over the 937cc twin would even make for more fun 99% of the time - For me anyway.

    I own a V4S since 02/21, started riding it in late march - we have lasting winters and had a 16000 km trouble-free season. Had the recall done (unfortunate but well handled by Ducati) luckily at the dealer as shipping the bike back to Europe would have been a show de merde. On your connectivity praises - I can not share that as the Ducati app and Sygic caused and still does cause me nothing but aggravation. My take on this is that customers field-tested the connectivity functions, not impressed. Maybe the 2022 software update will bring improvements. Can't complain about the Pirelli's, the forward facing Radar could give visual feedback on how fast the car in front of you is driving just so the rider could make a more seamless decision to pass or to roll back the throttle. Awesome bike, I can only recommend the machine.

      Hello thor8640,
      Great feedback, thank you. And I completely sympathise on your connectivity problems. Mine was bad from day one, and then just got worse - to the point where it would barely ever connect. You may have spotted the Beeline Moto satnav fitted to the bars in the video - that’s there because of the connectivity issues I was having. However, since the software was updated, I’ve genuinely had no issues whatsoever. I don’t believe any bike manufacturer has really got connectivity properly nailed yet, sadly.

    The MSV4 has a huge payload (230kg) which means plenty for "normal" sized rider, pillion and luggage. How does it feel 2-up fully loaded?

    • @motorcyclenewsdotcom
      @motorcyclenewsdotcom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hello WorldBiker,
      I’ve taken my wife pillion (she’s 9stone and 5ft8in - but don’t tell her I told you), while I’m 17.5st and 5ft11in. I’ve also taken a fellow tester out on it, who I’d guess is more like 13st and 6ft1in. We’ve ridden two-up with luggage, and without, and used several different suspension settings to test them out (switching between the pre-set load options and the ‘Auto’ setting). I’d say it’s good, without being exceptional. In all modes, the front feels slightly too light, and it causes the front to ‘wander’ ever so slightly. It also pitches more than, for example, an R1250GS - which means you have to be very gentle with all your inputs if you want your pillion to still be there when you arrive at your destination. In the adventure class, the GS with Dynamic ESA is still the benchmark for two-up riding composure, in my opinion.
      All the best, Rich

    Made the switch from GS 1250 TE in November 21 to the Multi V4 Sport, early days so far only 100 miles done. Only my opinion but I did have the feeling on the GS that all though I had the latest version a 2021, BMW tend to drip feed the tech to the GS in small yearly updates that almost made the bike a little outdated. The Ducati feels and looks very cutting edge and is an absolutely beautiful bike to ride. Great presentation MCN and let's hope for some big safe miles for everyone in 2022.

      Hello Richard,
      It’s a great comparison to make, and I’d say that the Multistrada V4 feels very much like KTM’s Super Duke GT - which is a bike I love (both Gen1 and Gen2). They’re both superbly comfortable over distance, entertaining for B-road blasts, joyful for the everyday commute, effortless and engaging to ride - and both have that rare blend of complete practicality and irreverent hooliganism. The Ducati is more expensive, but you can really see where your money is going - and you get a 4-year warranty. If I were buying new, I’d go for the Multistrada every time (cash permitting) - but as a used bargain, the Super Duke GT is very compelling.

    If you need extra fuel range, on transport section dial the ride mode to the lowest power output setting ie rain mode. During transport sections at a steady speed I in no way need 170hp. If I do I quick tap on the ride mode back to full power for that needed blast. Extra fuel range... Problem solved !

    • @AlienSexGod
      @AlienSexGod ปีที่แล้ว

      yes just ridiculous. Also all these bike manufacturers should make 6th gear a much taller overdrive. You need f all power to sit on 140kph on a freeway or so 2k rpm in rain mode would easily be enough power and torque to keep the speed steady.

    • @motorcyclenewsdotcom
      @motorcyclenewsdotcom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Hello Don,
      There's no doubt that having a bigger tank range would be great. I love the 30-litre tanks on BMW’s GS Adventure and the Multistrada Enduro (I've done big miles on both), and the huge flexibility they give you. In relaxed use, this Multistrada V4 S - which has a 22litre tank - will carry you around 190-210 miles if you're being relatively gentle with it, so even on a big day in the saddle, the fuel stops aren't too intrusive. It's not the most fuel-efficient engine (44mpg is the best I've seen in normal use - and it's easy to get that down to 38mpg), but the outright range has certainly never proved a problem. Obviously the more aggressive you are with the throttle, the worse the range gets - and sustained Autobahn use would drain it fast as the consumption seems to really increase sharply when cruising at over 90mph. The fuel warning flashes up at circa 40miles-to-empty, and the range counter is fairly accurate (I've put 21.4litres in it when the range reads zero). Hope that helps…
      All the best, Rich

    Is it just me that suffers from the negatives? I have a V4S Sport and the seat absolutely breaks my arse. The front wings do nothing to cool me from the rectifier heat on the right side of the seat simply they blow cold air on my shins. And they also blow cold air when it’s cold outside and of course all the muck from the front wheel. I guess you only ride on temperate clean days. Without the panniers the filth from the back wheel gets all over my riding trousers and back of my jacket necessitating my kit being washed basically every time I’m caught in bad weather. In short, weather protection is rubbish. As for your impressions with the connectivity I can only assume you’ve got the latest 2022 software update?

      Hello Paul,
      It may just be that my arse is considerably better padded than yours! As you can see in the video, I’m storing a fair few pies about my person. But I genuinely find the Multi exceptionally comfortable - which is why I said it. Yes, the ‘wings’ do direct airflow on your legs - nice on hot days, less so on very cold ones - but I’ve never considered it to be at all intrusive. I regularly ride in sub-zero temperatures for considerable distances, and ride in all weathers - so I’m certainly no ‘temperate days only’ rider. As for the filth - well, I almost always ride with the panniers on, and haven’t regularly ridden on filthy days with them off. I have noticed some ‘fling’, as you note, but absolutely nowhere near as bad as you get from a GS - which absolutely clarts you in muck - or most other bikes in this class. Rubbish weather protection? Sorry, that’s not my experience at all. For my 17.5st, 5ft11in lumpy body it’s very cosseting in terms of airflow and protection from the elements. If anything, my only negative would actually be that it gets too hot on very warm days. But, we’re all different shaped humans, maybe it works exceptionally well for me and doesn’t work at all for you - I can only comment on how I find it. Regarding the connectivity - yes, my software was updated as I mentioned in the video. I’ll repeat what I’ve said in a previous reply here to save you scrolling through other responses: Mine was bad from day one, and just got worse - to the point where it would barely ever connect. You may have spotted the Beeline Moto satnav fitted to the bars in the video - that’s there because of the connectivity issues I was having. However, since the software was updated, I’ve genuinely had no issues whatsoever. I don’t believe any bike manufacturer has really got connectivity properly nailed yet.

    Connectivity issues completely sorted from a software update? I think not! Try importing a GPX into Sygic, or running Ducati Connect as a background app (e.g. Waze in the foreground) and you won't stay connected! Ducati make no claims to fix either problem in the Q1 update either. Example: th-cam.com/video/V7wQXOQP7tQ/w-d-xo.html

      No, there was a recall. Which Ducati handled brilliantly.

    Bottom line, overspecced and unaffordable.

      All bikes in this category are overspecced.
      Like he said:
      The price of the Africa Twin being almost similar, is worse.
      Same with the Kawasaki Versys 1000.
      Top specced, it's close to the GS and Multistrada, at least here in Norway.
      Those two bikes simply can not compare to the Multistrada or GS.

    No comment about cylinder heat. No comments about low range. And then you say , more comfortable than a goldwing. I am no gold wing fan, but that is bull. I wish there had been some better feeling of non bias in this interview. Came through as totally needing to say nothing but good.

    Yeah, great bike for sure... I stopped listening at the engine failure after 250 or so miles.

    Well,, that is when you lost me. 30hp more than the GS , yes. Then you say - more flexibility. Well no. This is quite low torque vs the GS. So the Duc is faster for sure, but absolutely not more flexible. So credibility - in the tank.

      It's got 125 nm, which is the same as the GS up until 2019.
      The GS quits at around 7000 rpm. This lasts til 10.000+.
      I'd say it's pretty flexible.

    Engine almost guaranteed to fail from the valve horrible design. Replacing engines was a pathetic PR stunt. These bikes are nightmares.
