Consider that in Polish and other Slavic languages that are phonetically related to Ukrainian and Russian, the word for love is milosc. Or if I want to say in Ukrainian “she is nice” I would say вона мила, “onna myla”. These words for love, loving, nice, kind, all seem to have the same etymological root as “pomiluy” which means to have mercy. And I think that because of that, at least to me, it comes across whenever I pray in Ukrainian or Russian or Polish or Slavonic. Yet I think that there is likely a deeper meaning that we can appreciate here, because in West Slavic languages, love or to love is miłość, milujem, milovat (Polish, Slovak, Czech). Love is only variations of любов in East or South Slavic languages. Both West and East retain versions of кохання as love in a verb form. But the thing is, all of these languages derived from Proto-Slavic and Old Church Slavonic, and the Jesus prayer is much older than any of these languages and was originally a Slavonic prayer.
