  • This Slideshow is a continuation of my previous one. These views which were taken not so long ago show there are still many changes to the City since my earlier Slideshows of the 50s and 60's. This Slideshow will bring back many more memories from just 50 years ago.
All my previous Portsmouth and Southsea Video's are in my TH-cam Channel "Pick of the Pics" Please enjoy them and please let me know.

Thank you lovely photos. I worked at St Mary’s Hospital a long time back and later at the QA. Wymering Manor looks super creepy in your photo just as I remember it a bit later on. If I ever had to pass that way would certainly pick up the pace as I passed by it! My grandfather was born in Old Portsmouth on the high street house long gone now at the end of the 19 th century and would tell me tales of the old spice island. I remember him saying Quebec house was used as a public bath house with separate bathing for men and women the baths were filled via pipes with sea water and would fill and flush out with the rising and ebbing tides. I was back a few years ago and was shocked at a monstrous new house they had allowed to be built at the end of bath square it was hideous! Once again lovely photos thank you.

My first proper girl friend lived in Eastney, I use to come over from the Isle of Wight to see her 70/71, this is how I remember Portsmouth

I personally don't know the area. Have you checked all previous Slideshows. Maybe something there. Also a bit more of Portsmouth out this week. Thank You

Fantastic photo collection. Can you tell me if it is possible to get a copy of the photo named 'City Wall near Pembroke Road' ? it's at 3:34
I have long thought the wall ended where it does as there was already a break there and this photo confirms that. In old painting of the ramparts of that area it shows a tunnel like the ones that have survived but led out onto a lower flanking section of the King's Bastion.
    Thank You.

Having lived through the 1970s I'm glad many of these old buildings are being knocked down replaced with new ones. In some ways it was a great at time for music, disco and dancing but there were too many hangovers from WW2. Too much looking back. We're going forward so keep the momentum going

I think you might have a few that disagree with you but its what it is. Sounds like a Great place in the 60s but then wasn't everywhere then
