It’s a crack den now absolute shit hole try getting out your car and walking around your either stabbed after drugs, do you wanna buy anything or have you got a quid? Trust me don’t leave your car it will be stolen
I was based there in the Navy. These pictures re remind me of what a soulless place it was.
Thanks for Comment.
Indeed a shame we cannot see Witley Court in all it's glory. Glad that English Heritage have improved the grounds and kept building safe.
The world was a simpler better place then shame i was born to late
Amazing photos.. i live in Newport but i know this area very well. I was 4 when the bridge opened so i just missed going on the ferry. Until recently the old ticket office was still there but they demolished the lot for one of them idiotic "flood defence" schemes. MILLIONS of pounds wasted and stuff that should have been listed destroyed..
So pleased you enjoyed these pics. Part 1 and 2 are on my Web Site www.pickofthepics.co.uk. Thank You for Commenting. Dave
Makes me feel nostalgic for a time before I was even born
So pleased you enjoyed this Slideshow. More soon. Thank You.
Slum Birmingham now
Such a Shame.
Have you got any old photos of the Wholesale markets from the 1960s. Particularly the Meat Market where I worked.
No Sorry David
Remember it well. At 'Point 3.41' the police attended a wandering swan in the Canoe Lake area. The AJS Police divisional motorcycle herding the swan ETP84C, I regularly rode the sister motorcycle ETP85C based at Cosham! These were the days of Portsmouth having its own City Police Force.
Thanks Bob for that great Comment, Oh! to go back to those days. All my previous shows of the area are on my Web Site www.pickofthepics.co.uk. Don't miss them. No swans though.
I just love Whitley Court, I used to play in it as a child in the fifties. It was just magical
When it was safe to walk the streets of our cities . Vote Reform UK 🇬🇧
I remember using that ferry quite often. I initially thought that the Morris Minor shown was mine, but it wasn't. The ferry was not exactly the most modern of vessels but it saved a long journey via Gloucester.
What a Shame it was not your car Keith. Thanks for Comments. More Pics soon.
In 1967 I started working on the Severn Wye Cable Tunnel, machine tunneling started from behind the service station at Aust and made it's way under the Severn Bridge to Beachley. A second tunneling machine had started on the Wye section to New House in Wales. The rock proved too hard for the machines and so drill and blast commenced from New House and Beachley to keep on target. I joined a group of water skiers who used the old Aust ferry slip way beside the bridge to launch our boats and would ski at high tides. All great fun and we even skied on Boxing day, the landlord of The Ferry Boat Inn supplied us with warming coffees and large brandies afterwards.
Beautiful, wonderful, these old statues that I, as a Dutchman, could not have known about, I drove for years in England with flowers and plants and later frozen ones, both via the tunnel hundreds of times and also from Dunkirk to Dover, I have also been able to drive on that Severn bridge many times. . Indeed England has changed a lot, a little too much crime, especially around Leeds, Manchester, etc., but elsewhere you were warned not to spend the night there with your truck and then you were guided to an area that was surrounded by a fence of up to 4 meters high, really bizarre!! It doesn't cost the people anything to prevent further crin=minality and don't blame them!!! In time I would like to go south to England again with a caravan as I have been retired for years, thanks for the images, chapeau!! Greetings from the Netherlands!!
Thank You Bob for those kind Comments. So pleased you enjoyed Pics. Some more soon. Dave

England was another world back then.A much nicer place.
I absolutely agree.
Southsea born and bred . Great video, brings back so many memories 😊
Thank You for kind Comments. It encourages me to do more.
Truly nice to see what Petersfield looked like back in the 80s wow its changed!
It looked a beautiful place to live in the 1900’s. I live there now and I can honestly say it’s a dump..
Well I don't live there Emma. I wonder who is to blame. Is it really so bad?
Portsmouth and Southsea used to be such a vibrant place, used to be lots of young people milling around the nightclubs and had a great vibe. Shame it’s all gone
Don't you think you should credit the person who owns the pictures you are using as you don't own them can i ask why you are taking pictures my farther took and donated them to staffordshire county council staffordshire past track ?? this person does not own the rights to be using these pictures that he is taking off other sites on the net .
I purchased these photo's and Postcards some years ago when they came up in a Probate Sale following the death of the Photographer. At that time the interest was in the Old Postcards but I wanted to Share the photographs with everybody rather than have them destroyed or cast aside. I devote a large amount of time to putting these Slideshows together and now at the age of eighty it has become an obsession. I make no renumeration. Indeed It costs me to do this. I'm sure your Father would have been pleased to know that in this digital age everyone can enjoy his work. I do not take photo's off Sites on the the internet. I only Share photo's that are the originals and in my keep. I know nothing about Stafford Council. The last thing I want to do is cause any upset. I just want people to enjoy these wonderful images.
Nice nostalgia, but pretty meaningless without some context or indication of what is what.
I agree but I can only add the information Ive got and it has to be verified. Thank You for viewing. I appreciate that. Dave

The Isle of Wight is NOT in Hampshire!
Great photos, even in my time of 74 years nearly, Kidderminster has changed no more so than its shopping centre, I still have fond memories of how vibrant it used to be like.
Where is that last picture from? Not in Pompey is it?
Apologies. Ive been told its Isle of Wight. Well spotted though. Thanks for watching.
Music is enough to make you depressed. Seriously bad choice.
Its supposed to make you sad. The vid is about places now gone. I like the music and I don't have to pay copywright.
@@pickofthepics2067 Don't recommend channel. Sorted. Nice move. 👌
Great Photos indeed! Anyone got photos of North End and Eastney bus garages?
Thank You for nice Comment.
The Shakespeare Memorial & Fountain were on the Old Blackgang Road which collapsed. The memorial was removed but the fountain still remains (though buried under thick undergrowth).
Thank You for your interesting Comment.
0:40 - Clarence Pier and beach, Southsea. I suspect this will be Bembridge Lifeboat Station which still survives today. It was one of a handful of lifeboat stations on the island. The boats are too close to identify anything but the beach at 2:45 looks to be Bembridge / St. Helen's near where this station was. 2:52 - I've seen a postcard of this lane / street which is Bembridge. 3:00 - That's Whitecliff Bay top left and this photo is taken from where the caravan site now it at the top of the down. 3.:20 - Looks familiar but hard to make out. 3:27 - I can't make out what this is - it's too bright I'm afraid. Looks like an entranceway / archway / folly? Yes I see it now at 3:34 - this will be inside Carisbrooke Castle - lots of old pics online if you want to look. 3:42 - Another shot of Whitecliff Bay - again looking west. 5:03 - The Avenue - I'm sure that was the title of that postcard showing the lane (shown earlier). Check out Bembridge Ducie Avenue on ebay and compare the postcard. It's the very same - you can even see the same tree with a branch over the road on the left! Some of the later photos are obviously on some farm. There's an IOW History Facebook Group (I am not a member) that might help you with regard to the houses / buildings shown here.
Takes me back 🙂
How beautiful Kidderminster was. Is still a good looking part of the world 👍
wonderful should be in a book
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank You
Just imagine how much more there would have been if it had not been for WW2.
I holidayed at Southsea from the mid 70’s to the late 80’s every year, at my aunt’s house on Eastern Villas Road. I loved it there and still do. I remember most of the seafront attractions from that time. The Hovercraft was always my favourite. These pictures now remind me of a lost generation, but I am grateful to have had many happy times there. Thankyou.
Thank You Jason. So glad you enjoyed the Slideshow. Check out the others at www.pickofthepics.co.uk

St Clements caves in Hastings not Isle of Wight
Can't get them all right but I do my Best. Thanks for pointing that error out.
Anybody know where those flats are /were at the 7 minute mark ? From the hill behind, i;d guess Cosham or Paulsgrove, but i've never seen them before.
I would like to help you George but although I have made several Slideshows of the area I have never been there. I'm sure someone will respond. Thank You.
@GeorgeSoroshasenteredthechat, I believe they used to be just north of cosham, on the triangle of land between Southwick hill rd and the old a3 London rd. Just East of qa hospital..
@@lewisg7614 Thank you, couldn't remember it from back then, and now its not there.
It was a council estate called Portsdown Park. I think it was demolished in the late eighties. It was situated next to QA hospital on Portsdown hill
Thoroughly enjoyed looking at these..brought back lots of memories - thanks.
Thank You. So glad you enjoyed them.
If it wasnt for the dated cars in the pics, you colluld probably take exactly the same pics if you went to Warwick now. The town centre reqlly hasnt changed that much architecturally.
That's Good. Too many Towns have more or less dis-appeared . Thank You for your Comment.
A nice pic of the New Repertory Theatre, also showing just to the left of it a roof section of Bingley Hall, a nice venue that a few years after this was taken, mysteriously burnt down, only to be replaced by the NIA. As for the Rep, now over 50 years old, the council may just come along and demolish it, building more modern, unsightly stuff. The memorial arches to the Reps' left are now gone, replaced by an open Centenary Square, and the new Central Library has now been built on the site of the car park just above the fountain, and even that has now been redeveloped. At least the blocks of flats in the background are still there, mostly now privately owned as no longer council properties. As for the small building shown in the middle on the right-hand side of the pic, I can not remember what that was, but that too has gone, now replaced by the City Center Gardens. I have no idea what the thought behind this "garden" was. Probably just to put a bit of greenery into the city center...It needs it.
Thank You Dave for that interesting Comment. I'm sure lots of others will enjoy perusing. You have encouraged me to find more.
Thank you for these pics. I was born in '63, so even the first pic of Temple St reminds me of when I would catch a bus home from school on Lower Temple St, also shown.
Thank You Dave. I appreciate your Comment. Make sure you view the others of Birmingham. You will enjoy them too.

Once a very PROUD City. Now a soulless dump, I'm sorry to say.
Thank You Edward.
Smashing ,love to see how things once were.
Lived there for seven years. Nice little town but was never told why they had a statue of William of Orange in the town center.
Someone out there ill know the answer to that Phil. Maybe they will let us know. Dave
@@pickofthepics2067 Thanks. It's quite a substantial piece of work but the subject always puzzled me.
It was commissioned by Sir William Jolliffe, an MP from an important local family; he was a big admirer of the monarch as the 'avenger of liberty' and wanted it as a kind of memorial to his own work as an MP and left money for it's erection. It originally stood outside the Jolliffe family mansion elsewhere in the town, but after that was pulled down in the late 18thC, it was moved to the Square. It was originally gilded and, consequently, a nearby pub was named the 'Golden Horse Inn', but I think this building no longer exists and is not one of the three pubs that are/were still around the Square ('The Market' has now been converted to a shop).
@@jennyhannah3958 Many thanks for that. I long wondered about it and almost given up hope of ever finding out. Cheers!
Fascinating. Thank You.
I always remember passing the Princess Flying Boat on the way to the dentist after crossing from East Cowes on the Floating Bridge!
Beautiful, but instead of cleaning these buildings, some council idiots had to put their names on them by demolishing and turning it into just another concrete euro city!!
