That fire scene is "real", it's a commom method used by Rio dealers. That's how they killed Tim Lopes, a journalist that was investigating the Comando Vermelho (Red Command).
U ar3 goddamn right
Here in Brazil they call that microwave killing
and is called "Microwave"
Fun Fact, Nascimento's actor is the american voice for Death on Puss in Boots 2.
18:20 This is in the film because someone actually died with a granade in a BOPE training
25:14 There's a reason "a good criminal is a dead criminal" (bandido bom é bandido morto) is a popular saying in Brazil.
24:48 **
Concordo
This movie was co-wrote by a former BOPE Captain, pretty much everything from their training and way of operating showed in the movie was REAL!
BOPE agents actually said in reality is worse.
Co-written / shown and operation methods.

The scariest thing is that despite not being a real story, several elements of the script are real stories from the screenwriter, who was from BOPE and his friends in uniform too
In other words, the script is a patchwork of real stories from various police officers.
Funny fact: The actor who played the hole of "almost gonna fly student" at the end was one of my cousins highschool colleagues. He's into theater and art stuff until today.
Ele sabia voar mesmo? 👀
eu espero q sim @@tributarioalunos182
Que bom, man.
Peace ✌️
They didn't ask for permission to film this to the drug traffickers, most of it was filmed in the favela where BOPE is located and there are no cartels there for obvious reasons, but they did film some scenes in another favela and their prop rifles were stolen by criminals.
The opening song from this movie was called "Rap das Armas". It's a song about killing cops and complete domination of the favelas by criminal groups. But they changed it to a song about people wanting peace in the favelas. The reason is because they wanted this movie to be about police brutality and how they mistreated people in the favelas and how they were part of corruption schemes as well. But it backfired. The vast majority of Brazilians HATE criminals. So watching Cap. Nascimento beating up criminals to a pulp was nothing but eye candy for us.
If you watched the entire movie without having any comment on police brutality, you didn't understood the movie and probably is a pseudofascist psycho like about 15% of our population. You don't represent Brazilians.
@@snaggy053criminosos de pobre vc quiz dizer né...pq no segundo filme ele descobre o quanto a polícia é criminosa e o teatro q é Brasil
This is the best brazilian movie ever made in my humble opinion...
O filme brasileiro mais famoso em Portugal. Excelente!
Being burned on the tires is unfortunately almost a trademark of the favelas in Rio de Janeiro.
O famoso microondas
Brazilian cinema follows the Realist style, that is why it can be quite brutal. Anyway, there is also "Tapete Vermelho", it is a beautiful film showing Brazilian countryside life and myths, There is also "Caixa Dois", it is a comedy.
Elite Squad 2 is really good, some may say it's better than the first one, to me they're equally good, one completes the other
The first movie is how the system creates the violence in the slums, there first how to politicions feed the system to make profit.
The 2 only was made to make the director look good for the artists because after the first one he was called "right wing"
@@raphdorth #1 explored corruption on the streets, while #2 explored the corruption at higher levels, just like O Mecanismo.
@@raphdorth yeah, that can be said, but it's not that simple, he has always been openly left-wing, including the actor himself who plays Nascimento wonderfully well, the political criticism of the film made him see that the message was not clear enough, it emerged so the need to create a continuation to close this cycle, 1 without 2 is incomplete, and vice versa
Hi buddy, I've been your subscriber for a while and I'm from Rio, Brazil.
This movie represents the reality here. The police war against thugs is a huge problem and unfortunately innocent people suffer the consequences. This movie always make me feel bad because they're cruel picture of reality. But even so, Rio is an amazing place with nice people.
there are a lot of interesting thing about the production of this film. BOPE really exists and BOPE officials were consulted to produce the film. I watched a podcast the other day with one of the officers in charge of the production, and he said that while they were shooting the movie, real bad guys hijacked the production and stole the guns thinking they were real.
Some people find this film too violent (which is true), but many say that the violence is exaggerated, that it's unreal..., but unfortunately it's not exaggerated, it portrays reality well.

I love this movie. It's written by the same screenwriter that wrote City of God. Elite Squad 2 is equally good, maybe better.
For me, elite squad 2 is better
Elite Squad 2 is miles better.
One of the best Brazilian movies, shout out! 🇧🇷
24:11 the real police officer who died was named Jessé and it happened on Fallet/Fogueteiro Hill. he was from the second police section of BOPE/RJ (P2) which was responsible for intelligence activity. One of the bandits actually had the nickname "Bahian" (Baiano)
if you think that the BOPE admission course is heavy in the movie, in real life it is a thousand times heavier
25:09 » people call it "the microwave oven" ─ when people get killed like that
How epic you gotta be to have your own intro track. .
" Tropa De Elite "
the music is older than the movie, the term "elite squad" was already used
This movie is based on a book from a real BOPE officer. The grenade scene was real lmao
BOPE training in Rio de Janeiro is difficult because it is necessary, all special operations units have training like this. Rio's BOPE is considered one of the best urban combat units in the world thanks to its training and real day-to-day combat experience. If you ask a police officer in the United States if he knows or has heard of the BOPE in Rio de Janeiro, he will possibly say yes.
This film portrays BOPE in 1998, today the unit is even more specialized, well equipped and experienced. And the uniform is no longer black, they changed to better camouflage for urban environments
25:00
That's real and a common way of them "dealing with the problem"...
One time a guy stole my brother and our friend, but here YOU CAN'T STEAL, the criminals (in charge of the area) were warned by our friend's brother and on the same night, they caught the robbers and burned them to death in their car here on the street, returning everything that was stolen to my brother and our friend.
Gotta watch Tropa de Elite 2 now, it expands on what ended up happening on the city to how it is right now.
3:05 "E a nossa farda não é azul, parceiro, é preta" ☝🏻🧐
I'm so grateful you had a Brazilian friend to recommend this gem for ya. That was an awesome watchalong with you.
Lol, do you have any Italian and/or Japanese friends that may suggest 1988's Cinema Paradiso (not the director's cut) and/or 1985's Tampopo?
They didn't made the 3rd one because it's started to mess with people in high places. The director thought it was a good idea to stop making this movies. I bet a couple of death threats helped him think clearly.
I don't think so. He even made the Netflix serial "The mechanism". It is just not as good as the elite squad movies and got canceled.
Parabéns, react sem hipocrisia! Virei inscrita!!!
nice reaction bro , much love from brasil , when u realised the bag isnt the worst hahaha
My man was just watching a movie until the broom scene started rolling....he got trully scared with that one haha, i feel ya brother.
I am brazilian. That's a face of Rio.
Dahora ver americanos com outro costume vendo a realidade do meu país.
Nice reaction, can you do the same for the second film? I think it's even better, a more balanced polished film, it's really interesting!
I never saw this one, but the second made in 2010, with same main actors was excellent.
The movie "BACURAU" is very very nice. Americans actors participate.
the fire scene is called "microwave", and thats is more commom then you think.
several districts in Rio de Janeiro were abandoned by the government. The traffickers are in charge of these regions.
and that s how they "burn" their files.
15:50 yeah...
Welcome to Brazil
OK, I’m watching it! But I’ve never seen this and it doesn’t seem like the best way to first see a movie through an edited reaction. But I gotta support the channel.
Appreciate you man
@@CapedInformer react city of good...please and more Brazilian move
the pronunciation of "de elite" was great! "tropa" is a bit hard because of the R, but it's still understandable you did a good job
some interesting shit: in 18:16 they gave the actor who play Mathias a real concussion granade and told him whas a explosion granade like "Just don't drop it and no one dies" and he really where scared as fuck to drop it. The granade would not kill anyone if he dropped but would surely hurt a lot.
If you wanna branch out into more international films i recommend "Das Boot". German submarine movie from the 80s about ww2, but from the perspective of a german sub crew. Great war movie and best sub movie ever in my opinion.
The best submarine movie ever
In fact was firstly made as a miniseries and later was dubbed in English by the original actors
26:03 this is the one scene I think the subs did a bad job.
Maria says "I will only tell you if you promises you (singular) won't harm her!",
and, as you can see on the scene, Matias stays back and only watches it, he doesn't touch her. Technically, he kept his word. Still fucked up, but in a different way.
Hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
Hey, that's some good brazilian portuguese right there. Yes there's differences, I'm not hating. But it's the same in English, people from Ireland talk way different from people from the US for example.
Everything that this movie portrays is real, that thing about burning the person in the tunnel is called a microwave.
There was a journalist called Tim Lopes that was killed using that method with the tires and set on fire. Just like you saw on the movie. They call it the micro wave oven.
18:16 yes... this is real, there is some podcast that instructor said about this, but rarely this happen, and when happen, they kinda pray for not explode 😅
I'm Brazilian, elite troops 1 and 2 show the reality of Brazil perfectly and this is what happens
This is real man, I'm born in Rio de Janeiro.
This actor who plays the character Matias, is a former bope police officer in real life
I heard you to say "unreal"... the kill using tires on fire by the drugs traffic is called "microondas" in portuguese. Microwave in english. Is real, bro. Thank's for react
This story takes place years after the events already narrated in the other famous film ' City of God, in the same city, a HIGHLY POLITICAL problem in Latin America that has spread to almost the whole world, not in the same proportion, where it corrupts ALL of society, from police officers, politicians, government officials of all echelons, and even some who I am afraid to comment on have the power here in BR and in several countries. These 2 films relate well the reality of the crime that was created, masterpieces of cinema.
This movie is so dope, dude.
Amazing review bro . BOPE P.D is very professional and worldwide knowned by it's power and hard working. They also are along with the Us Army and international military missions on UN and Haiti as well during the Crisis. Referrence on urban fights, like iraq or afghan scenery. Only the best ones reach the BOPE level. Unfortunely in Rio , it's a reality in some areas. The local police mixes with gangs and authorities must decide about peace and dealers becoming millionaires controlling areas or violence level 10 to stop huge gangs taking control (on drugs, apartments, light, sewer system etc). It's true. Movie was very well done. Hope you can watch to 'Elite Squad 2' , an awesome movie that translates litteraly how the system goes very accurate ! nice to see you bro
You didnt understand the movie
Great movie bro!
28:14 there's an expression in Brazil that is "quem tem cu, tem medo", the translation would be something like "if you have an asshole, you're afraid"... that's why I laughed so hard when I watched this scene
MELHOR FILME DO BRASIL!
This is my wife's favorite movie. When she showed me this, I knew my girl was my fuckin girl. (She's Portuguese)
I'm Texan 😊😊
Welcome to Rio!
Esse é o dia a dia no Rio de Janeiro. Não há ficção, apenas verdades
A realidade aqui dó Brazil 🇧🇷 parceiro
"Fun" fact: This was suposed to be a trilogy, but after the second movie the scriptwriters and directors were threatened with death for being too close to reality and stopped in the second movie
I was summoned.
Waiting for the 2nd movie.
O Tempo e o Vento (The Time and the Wind), the all best brasilian film!
In Rio in the Caricoa accent it’s pronounced “Portugesh”. A little different than some other accents
Real history 🇧🇷
That part of Granade scene its real, here in Brazil we met the real Nascimento Captain and he told to us this history haha
This film was one of those responsible for the BOPE police being recognized in Brazil.
And BOPE officials say the training is actually much more difficult.
BOPE is the closest thing the world have to actual judges from the Judge Dredd comics.
I'm brazilian and that movie it's the true in atual days all day we have a great war, but we have great warriors too in our special forces
24:59 it happens in real life as well
You're awsome bro. you need to come northeast Natal- Rio grande do norte State to visti, you gonna enjoy it !!! PEACE!!!
The visit of Pope in Rio de Janeiro was in 1997, so the time of ths movie is between 1996 to 1997
6:52
That guy's has the function to warn the dealers if the cops are getting closer.
Idk how you call that in the US, here we call those "Fogueteiros".
9:01
Here he was sad talking with "Fogueteiro" Mother.
Abraços do BR, Rio de Janeiro é osso kkkkk
"Not the bag, no the bag !" HAhAHHAhHAhhaha
This film shows a little of the reality of the outskirts, of the favelas and streets of Rio de Janeiro.
Anybody remember the operations in Rio in 2010 right before the Olympic Games?
This movie is really good ❤😂😂😂
This movie is about the favela status in the 90's, things changed a lot for the worse. Most of the favelas are now controlled by crooked cops or ex-cops, the militias, and this is better displayed on elite squad 2, placed a decade later. You can see that city of god was 70's, this is 90's and the next movie is 2010. The execution by putting fire on tires is real and commonplace in favelas, it is called the "micro-oven", and usually is placed on the top of the mountain so that everybody can see what is happening to the victim stilling terror everywhere. The problem with the "common citizen" is that, if you see something the police may torture you for information. If you tell, the dealers will kill you, because you live in their territory. If you don't tell, the police may, or may not, kill you, but it takes a lot of cold blood no to talk. So you better "not see" what happens. Of course that only poor people lives in such communities, anybody with some money will try to move as far as possible from this reality. But, sometimes, this reality just knocks out at your door.
25:03 this is real, and called “microondas”, microwave in English.
Finally man
Best regards from Brazil though
It's The First of 2 movies . React to the Second as well. Unfortunately as in any language there are some slang words wich cannot be translated to other languages. Ex: "senta o dedo nessa Porr@! Many of these Terms creat some atmosphere on the movie. But is an amazing schock of reality anyway.
By the way, the punishment with the guy stand in tyres and gas Is called by the dr¥g dealers chiefs : Microwave. You saw why. It's used as punishmen7 for traitors, in debt clients and rival leaders from other favelas.
Yes, we talk about police here, but tbere is a difference. Brazilian justice is so eazy on criminals that the cops get mad. They arrest the criminal today, next day, they re on street again
