Thank you Katie. I know TSM works. I am down to (average): 2 or 3 beers a day. Some times less. When I literally used to drink 1.75 L Scotch a day. This is a fact. I thought I was going to die. My body was sick and breaking down quickly. I have been a heavy drinker for 35 plus years. I have just started my 5th month on TSM. My goal is to completely stop drinking because I see no benefit in it. However, I am not there yet. I have so many issues to work out. So I try not to beat myself up knowing I am still not at extinction yet. But I am happy where I am today! I only wish I can help people to know about TSM. But I'm just not at that point yet. So I will give back by supporting your venue. Thank you Katie for all that you do. You are my friend. (Dallas)
Userdallas, thank you for your post. My loved one is sabotaging this journey. He is a strong liquor drinker and drinks to excess to chase the buzz. He appears to get even drinker. Any thoughts on how he can wean?
@@autumnmeadows4079 1st he would have to be on the Medicine naltrexone and follow the The sinclair method . that's what worked for me. that was the only thing that worked for me. Are you familiar with it? Look up the "C3foundation." Always take your medication one hour before drinking.
I have been on TSM treatment for 13 months and I still sometimes find myself "drinking anyway", more for numbing than for a buzz, while on naltrexone. This video has given me clarity and inspiration. Your knowledge and compassion are so appreciated. When I reached the one. year point and was still struggling, I was starting to think about giving up and giving in. The 17 minutes and 16 seconds you took to share has motivated me to continue on my healing journey. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Wow, this comment made my day. I am so so so glad you did not give up. For some it takes time and just like you said we can drink anyway even on the medication. It is also about changing habits and finding new ways to cope. My best advice is to make tiny changes on a regular basis to break up the habit and ritual of drinking, and creating a better life for which you don't want to escape from. I hope that helps!! Hello! My new doctor suggested this method. I'm 51, and I've been battling my addiction with alcohol for 35 years. Treatment twice, in and out of AA rooms, fighting a severe anxiety disorder, etc... I've just renovated and winterized our family cottage, and I'll be living here full time. So I've found a new "small town" doctor, and surprisingly, she's amazing and thorough. I've been watching your videos all week, and this is my first time commenting. I'm picking up my script tomorrow, and I'm nervous as hell! I completely relate to this video, because I know for a fact that's it's going to be much more work than just taking a pill. I've also found a great therapist that I'm seeing once a week to work on the original problem, the anxiety, that started me drinking in the first place. Anyway, I have a bunch more of your videos to watch, so I'll continue to binge watch my way through over the next week. Lol I'll be picking up some wine on my way home with my script tomorrow. Very interested to see how this all works out. Believe me, I'm very skeptical and VERY concerned about the side effects, but willing to try anything at this point. Thanks for sharing all of this valuable information. Take care, Tiina 😊❤🇨🇦
Wising you great luck on this journey!! Take good care of yourself along the way. Happy to hear you have a good doctor and therapist, that can make the process move along smoothly. All the best :) Katie
Hello Katie, I’ve been on the medication for two months and your video describes exactly what I’m not doing to succeed. Yes, the underlying reasons for drinking must be dealt with along with the help the medication provides. Naltrexone is a “tool” to help you succeed, not a magic bullet. I believe I knew this in my heart; your video has given me the encouragement I needed to start afresh, with a clearer perspective. Plus, you have such a gentle, non-condemning approach to this miserable condition. Thank you!

I just received a prescription today! After much deliberation and almost heated debate with my doctor. I did go with all the printed info and my written feelings. I did a lot of research. He finally agreed to reluctantly give me a prescription. Doctors honestly believe that this is something they are not allowed to prescribe. He actually left the room to do medical research of his own. He found out that things have been changed with this medication. Hooray for me. What I just watched on your video helps put everything into perspective. Thank you, I really needed to hear this. I know I can let this help me. You have to do the work in order to succeed!

Taking naltrexone throws me immediately into a quite horrific withdrawal syndrome. I have done it twice before,And I do understand that it ultimately eliminates craving. But it’s withdrawals are a complete nightmare
Hi, I'm so sorry you are experiencing this. I haven't heard someone say before that nal sends them into withdrawal from alcohol... I am curious, do you know why that happens?
@@thrivealcoholrecovery I can’t give you a clinical response but I can speculate: Firstly I maybe taking too much NAL on an empty stomach. I’ve had this effect from only 25 mg, but its power to block GABA receptors is truly extraordinary. Secondly, my attempts have been made on dry days, begging the question that I may have been pre-emptively forward loading inevitable symptoms into a smaller amount of time. In addition I may simply be hyper responsive to the effects of naltrexone. Lastly , I have not tried the true Sinclair method; taking naltrexone one hour before drinking and then continuing. conclusion. I will be trying the prescribed Sinclair method, using an initially smaller dose so as not to induce any nasty effects and hopefully I will approach some sort of decent outcome. Wish me luck!
it's not the *same* high for a lot of people. yes we can still get buzzed and drunk, but not in the same way. have you talked with your doctor about increasing your dose? Or trying other medications?
The doctors I've spoken with recommend the pill over the shot because it's in a targeted dose, where as the shot means naltrexone is always in your system. I hope that helps.
yes, if you practice this method and achieve success, you'll want to drink in combination with the medication for the rest of your life. the addiction can be relearned.
