There is history of our Australian Aboriginies using what was Kuditcha? boots to cross muddy lake beds. Essentially just solid snow shoes, or very wide short skis, made from stiff bark with a thong strap of twisted bark. In the mud shown here, an inflatable dingy would slid on it? Interesting to watch anyway, but also tells me that a lot of scientists have no practical skills. ;)
Ya, opening scene was stupid. Why wouldn't anyone have checked the mud first? Or approached by raft and done the sampling from the water. Doesn't bode well for the rest of the video. Thank you, had to get that off my chest
They would be gone when the tide comes in and they were not allowed to have that happen. So they would need to take the time to lay them down and take them back up. All in 1 hour.

If you're post other peoples work at least give them a little credit otherwise people will think you are a liar and thief
Yes. Their faces show they look a lot younger with peachy complexions than in more recent programs in which they appear. Alice has done a lot of stuff since then.

Why not “float” a few pieces of plywood and slither along them -low crawl? I can’t imagine why they didn’t use their brains. Looks as though the only way to get to the water might be being lowered from a heli.
Plywood. Lay a sheet down, walk onto it, place another sheet, walk onto it, place another sheet.... You could do it with only 2 sheets. It would just take longer.

I was wondering the same thing…. Why on earth not lay wide flat planks on the surface? Of course, they’ve been doing this stuff for decades… maybe there’s a logistical/logical reason they didn’t? 🤷♀️

A little pathetic but hey it is called Extreme Archaeology. Day 1 wasted by wallowing in the mud, then the high wire act. Wish I was smart enough to have a university education.
Those men should have done this first, a tad chauvinistic of them to get the women to do the dirty work. A temporary coffer dam lifted off at completion, leaving the locale as pristine as before would also work. There are rubber tread cranes, this method may have not been financially feasible... Overall Fantastic video and work Katie; Alice; Meg and crew!!!
They could have motored in a line of floating docks and anchored to the muck with earth screws or...instead of dry suits the women could have worn bikinis and gone barefoot. So much less suction to fight against so much more energy and time for mud wrestling. ...or on the cheap they could have laid down and simply rolled across or...hook a bunch of slip n slides together or...

Lol In that tide? They use rubber boats here in the bay of Fundy, to do white water rafting on the tide.

So they built a bridge over the river to a cliff? Was the road so untypical because it was the base of a ramp and the bridge sloped or high?
So they had a boat and 2 kayaks but first attempt was across the mud followed by a zip line? Good TV and drama but not credible.
They’ll never dig down deep enough to reach the bottom of the piles, so why try? Next time send a couple of divers.
