If durability is what you need, get an Elzetta Z Line Modular flashlight. The Bravo model is my favorite. Surefire is good but an Elzetta Bravo or Charlie model crushes Surefire durability. Just don't get the new budget friendly G Line of lights. Those are standard lights. Z Line is the best quality.
Great light I bought it after seeing your review. You’re reviews always cost me so much money my friend! Haha keep up the great job you’re the best in the business.
I never even paid attention that Olight was made in China. I just fell in love with M2T Warrior and PL-Mini weapon light. They've been rock solid performers at a seriously good price point. I would love to save for a surefire but for one Surefire EDCL2-T I can get One Olight M2T with same features and one PL-Mini plus a free keychain light or something as Olight always gives me something for free.
Awesome video! Can you do a video reviewing the latest SureFire E2D Defender? would love to see how the EDCL2-T compares to the most recent E2D Defender.
I can envision Surefire going the way of Blockbuster, Polaroid and Blackberry. They used to be the Top Dog in the industry 20 years ago, but are pricing themselves out of the market. This is especially true given - in this example - given the lack of a strobe and Surefire's ongoing failure to embrace the 18650 because they want to sell you spendy CR123s. So Surefire does make a solid light, but they are not worth twice the price of similar offerings from Fenix, Olight, Nitecore, etc. Great review as always. Thanks.
They aren’t going anywhere. They make more than just flashlights. However most professionals who have to carry a pistol or rifle for work still use Surefire as THE go to light. They also make great Earpro, plus they sell Cans to the Military, and most SWAT teams in the US. I doubt any of those other “flashlight only” makers have that kind of product line or contracts. But hey, thats just the way I see it.
Todd. H. I agree. Been thinking this for a couple years now. Dont think theyre worth the money at all considering the lack of features offered and everything else...
Somebody on CPF tested this light and found that the 1200 lumens starts to drop almost immediately after turning on with a fresh set of batteries and you end up under 1k in just a few minutes, plus the batteries drain like mad. Kind of sad since the 1T runs at max for 30 minutes! For me it's the smaller 500lm light or the Tactician which runs 15 minutes before starting to drop slowly from that 800lm it pushes. The 2T is a bit of a disappointment to me due to the quick battery drain on 2 cells.
Been carrying a Tactician for the past two months and pretty happy with it. The clip up of the Tactician is a bit annoying (sticks out pretty far from the pocket and also jabs in the gut when bending over to tie shoes). I like the controls though and can be useful for sticking it on your hat brim. Had a EDCL2-T on backorder from surefire for a month cant wait to compare. Love me those lumens!
i lego'd my tactician head and tailcap onto my e2d body so now i have bezel down carry. i run a orbtronic 16650 rechargeable. its now the perfect edc light for me
Rad. I was thinking about doing that! I also think that you can get the clip which folds back on itself goes the otherway without swapping the bodies. I cancelled my surefire order and just got it for less on amazon and I should have it tomorrow or monday.
I have an Olight M2T Warrior in the mail on the way! For my money, I have a hard time finding anything better. Surefire are awesome lights, but I'm a cheap sucker, and I don't care what the internet operators carry :-) We live in glorious days of innovation, we are spoiled with choices!
i'm in the middle. I own my fair share of surefires, but i also don't like spending an arm and a leg for some flash lights. So when i need additional lights for non firearms use, i go with malkoff. They use regular CREE emiters instead of their own proprietary ones like surefire does, but they also have fully potted electronics, so they're all shock resistent, like surefires. I'm also moving away from any cr123a powered flashlights for edc use....because frankly...spending $2-$4 every time i need to put new batteries in a flashlight, sucks. And i'm way to careless and lazy to use rechargables. I bought a bunch of rechargable eneloops from amazon and costco and i think i've lost about half of them.
First to last Last to first This light in the review. Great light with simple functions. Similar size to the M2R but the bezel is slightly larger on the Surefire but I don’t care because it works when I need it.
If you ever decide to give up trying to find that detent then you can opt for filing alnumium from a bag clip to fit. Works fine. But a flash light is always a good choice.
I got the EDCL2-T due to it being more commonly found. The E2D is harder to find around. Also, I have a Thyrm on my light; better manipulation where as the E2R does not have it.

Realistically, you’d only be doing superficial cuts to someone that could have a communicable disease that spreads through bodily fluids, which you don’t want on you. Practically speaking, crenellations will also chew through your pants’ pockets faster because of the raking motion of stuffing them into your pocket repeatedly. The shallow features of the more common scalloping on Surefire flashlight bezels is a bit more practical, because it isn’t sharp enough to burden your pocket and also allows for easy recognition if the light is turned on or not if it sits on a surface with the tail cap facing up. Once again, I don’t have any experience with this kind of thing, but it seems to me that the blunt trauma of the flashlight is what matters more than the small slices you achieve using a “defense” light. I like the gas pedal activation, but that's about where my praise stops. 1200 lumens sounds great on paper, but it's only pushing 11,300 candela, so not much throw or usable light. Also, the 5 lumen low mode is just useless.

Look around 🤷♂️ My only complaint is that I'm not a fan of the "tactical" lights. I prefer a clickable switch. So instead of this model I would own a P3X fury for similar output. Which I do 😉 Thanks for the review!
hollowpoint45acp could have fooled me. I guess it all depends on what circles you run in. I literally was sitting here thinking that the 18650 battery craze was a fad that ended almost 10 years ago because people didn't want to pay inflated prices for CR123's. That pricing simply does not exist any longer. But whatever floats your boat. 👍
I never got on board with rechargeable batteries. Especially like you said when you can get the lights and the batteries at good prices from dealers. I think a box of 12 for around $18 and that will last me about a year. And when you literally have 12 different lights in rotation there’s no way to keep that many batteries topped off plus not to mention that I’d probably need to have 12 different chargers in my house, at multiple job sites, in multiple vehicles. The logistics become unreasonable. Not to mention that Murphy WILL Pop up at the worst possible time & the battery will either fail or will have self discharged enough to be unusable. Heck I have a hard enough time keeping 2 iPhones & 1 iPad charged enough just to make it through one day. And that’s with having 15 different chargers staged....... but that’s just me. Haha
Surefire finally catching back up to reality now it seems. For a while their lights have been pretty underpowered as well as only taking proprietary or non-rechargeable batteries. Glad to see them fixing their line-up, a lot of their new lights are finally getting to current lumen levels and they're using some 18650's which has been standard with other manufacturers for a few years now.
Your fury is probably just a more focused beam -- less lumens, but higher candela. That, combined with the fact that the human eye doesn't perceive lumens additively, more like logarithmically. So 900 lumens isn't twice as bright as 450 lumens, it's more like 25% brighter. To have the human eye perceive a 2x jump in brightness, you need roughly 4x the lumens. So 4k lumens will look "twice as bright" as 1000 lumens.
Compared to manufacturers like Nitecore, Olight, Fenix, Klarus, Acebeam, Armytek, and many others yeah they have been underpowered for a while. They are just now getting back in the game, for the last 5+ years they've been at like half the lumens of these manufacturers for 4x the price. They're durable, sure, but these manufacturers have lights that are durable as well. Not to mention these other manufacturers have been innovating with magnetic charging, better ui's, way better moonlight/low modes, as well as other innovations.
I was out as soon as you said two CR123's, I was hoping this light was an AA light but I should have known better seeing 1200 lumens in the title. Surefire has got to move away from 123 batteries.
Mrgunsngear Channel there is a video of a guy exploring a cave while testing out a new flashlight. In the cave, he starts hearing whispers and decides to go further in. The guy just thinks it’s the win, but can clearly hear one of the whispers say “You can’t see me, I’m a shadow among the shadows.” Instead of running out, he just walks back. The video is called Creepy Sounds Captured in an Abandoned Mine While Reviewing the ThruNite TN12 Flashlight
I like the color temp on the olights a lot more. Everything looks warm/red in comparison to their cool/blue temp choice. Do you ever try 16340s in these cr123a lights? M2t has my vote being that it uses 18650s and I've been using a streamlight 2lx with an 18650 and loving how it costs very little to run over time. You don't have to worry about using it too much or practicing too much if it's rechargeable.
Spartan J not sure why I don’t see more people using Olights. I have the M2T and it’s great. Cr123 or 18650. I like th UI more since tail is high only or strobe.
steven leflar okay, I found the post again.... "FYI, just got off the phone with Surefire, they say the EDCL2-T's candela is 25,000 and that they don't have runtime regulation info. I assume regulation is P3X-like, since 1,200 is unsustainable on 2xCR123A, which means we're actually talking 12,500 candela with a brief 2x burst. Assuming same LED and optics, that puts the EDCL1-T at 5,200 candela + burst." Again....just some dude on the internet...who knows if he actually spoke to them.
animalmother556x45 no worries, my HL-X still has more candela and I don’t see any reason in switching anytime soon. But it is good to see surefire competing.
steven leflar The reason to switch will be WHEN your HLX takes a dump.....way too many people fell into the Streamlight trap due to these HLX lights...they just plain forgot about Steamlight's quality issues. Now, I keep seeing dude after dude saying his HLX flickers, the switch doesn't work, etc. Now they are going back to surefire.
Sick light but I cannot imagine carrying something so big as an edc with all my other crap. But if If I had like a rig I wore for security or leo I would deff rock it. As for regular Ed's I would say the streamlight macrostream is about as big as I would consistently carry
Great review. Any tactical reason why the tail end of these flashlights don’t come flush with the compression button so they can stand on end and act like a candle light? I feel like there could be a type of tactical reason for standing it on its end as a light source such as a first aid or rescue type situation in a dark space. Honestly the light on that Olight seemed better and I hate to say that because it’s not the American one LOL. I will try to focus on the fact that the Olight is less durable. Are Surefire flashlights usb or otherwise rechargeable? Asking because those 123 batteries are expensive.
Great review and great light. I prefer the e2d defender, but this is my second choice for edc
I love mine! The e2d ultra is my favorite light as of right now.
Should had after dropping my Thrunite and it breaking have used nothing but surefire for work. Thanks again
If durability is what you need, get an Elzetta Z Line Modular flashlight. The Bravo model is my favorite. Surefire is good but an Elzetta Bravo or Charlie model crushes Surefire durability. I do Need this to find the AR detent across the room. Great review!!!

Awesome video!
Can you do a video reviewing the latest SureFire E2D Defender? would love to see how the EDCL2-T compares to the most recent E2D Defender.
Can you do a pro/con review of this light, and the tactician? Keep up the good work man!!
I don't get out of bed for less than 10,000 lumens.
Murphy82nd -ditto.
Hence my AR mounted HellFighter!
It’s more like 10,000 candela for me
Just bought this light....best reviews out there....thanks brother

I can't but fair enough.
My fav thing about surefire is they don’t put strobe

I just bought this light and the tactician. Now I can't decide which one to carry....lol. Both are amazing.
Add an Olight M2R to that mix. There will be a most definite winner.
Which do you prefer now?
womensrightslol edcl2-t

John Browning's Ghost i like your TH-cam name. Hilarious!!!
All the 5 lights shown here are awesome!
🇺🇸
?
I never thought my entire life I would be the first person to like a mr. Guns and gear video
Top of the world Ma! Top of the world!
boom!
You have arrived
2:12 *Cooper's voice* wow look at that lumens that is heckin swell. Look at All of that heckin CANDELA!!!!!!!
🐶
I'm seriously considering dropping the coins on this light. Great video as always!
Thank you
I purchased the 1 cell version of this light and have been extremely impressed by it. And I own many Surefire lights.
I want the beam of the X300 but in a EDC package.
That shirt is genius. Review is excellent.
Thank you
The Olight just spanked the surefire in light output. and it's much cheaper! ty for helping me decide !
Most E series heads can be used on scout bodies and vice versa something to keep in mind with surefire
indeed
I have an Olight M2T Warrior in the mail on the way! For my money, I have a hard time finding anything better. Surefire are awesome lights, but I'm a cheap sucker, and I don't care what the internet operators carry :-) We live in glorious days of innovation, we are spoiled with choices!
the m2t is very bang for the buck
i'm in the middle. I own my fair share of surefires, but i also don't like spending an arm and a leg for some flash lights. So when i need additional lights for non firearms use, i go with malkoff. They use regular CREE emiters instead of their own proprietary ones like surefire does, but they also have fully potted electronics, so they're all shock resistent, like surefires.

fair enough! so what are you gonna get? a malkoff 1aa or 2aa light?
i have a bunch of eneloops but i hardly use them anymore
both lol.
one to keep in my car and the other to carry.
Love my M2T
I’ve had two M2R’s and both have had nothing but issues with the tail cap switch.
thanks for the report
What did you end up going with?
First to last Last to first This light in the review. Great light with simple functions. Similar size to the M2R but the bezel is slightly larger on the Surefire but I don’t care because it works when I need it.
If you ever decide to give up trying to find that detent then you can opt for filing alnumium from a bag clip to fit. Works fine.
But a flash light is always a good choice.
😁
Wow! They pulled your latest video! They're coming!
Not sure if its just me, but both amazon links goto the edcl1....?
same here, different links same product
they sold out of the 2's. They were in stock at that link when the video posted
This or the 1000 luminous Surefire Defender e2d?
I got the EDCL2-T due to it being more commonly found. The E2D is harder to find around. Also, I have a Thyrm on my light; better manipulation where as the E2R does not have it.
@Bas Biemans My opinion might be a grain of salt considering I’ve never been in a self-defense scenario- but crenellations on a flashlight would likely bring nothing beneficial from using just a normal bezel.
The crenellations on flashlights that feature them are never deep enough to significantly injure someone beyond what an impacting strike from a flashlight would intend to deliver.
If you know any resources that prove my theory wrong, I’d like to hear it out, though.
Nice video especially the disassembly part and showing the reflector, do that on all of your video please.
BTW even Cooper loves Surefire :-) :-)
Nice Hi Point t-shirt! The dogs are superstars! By the way, if you’re considering suggestions, I would appreciate a Surefire Aviator review.
My favorite EDC light at the moment
thanks for the report
I hope you not get confused between TIR and normal reflector.. that surefire is just using normal smooth reflector like the old maglite style.. TIR optic is like on the elzetta flashlight and on newest olight m2r pro and maybe on the s1r baton,.. with surefire price range i cant get it why surefire not using the tir for more nicer beam..
a little late but can you do a review on the newest E2D Defender?
Duly noted
Thanks again for the info and upload. It's greatly appreciated.
You're welcome 👍🏽
2:10 that dog def popped a squat and left a pile.
😁
Nice light, but surefire is still behind the times with those cr123a batteries. (just my opinion). Why not 18650's ? Longer run times and not much bigger than 2 cr123a batteries. Great review .
CR123s have a shelf life of around 10 years. Recharable lithium batteries are much more finicky when subjected to time/temperature.
This is probably a unusual request. I respect your opinion more than any other channel on youtube. You make good videos and their entertaining as well. I wanted to ask if you would consider redoing your video on the Colt LE6920. The one you did 5 years ago is a little dated. anyway there is no harm in asking. Best regards from Idaho
I have an EDCL2-T as my current EDC, but I'm on the lookout for a replacement. I like the gas pedal activation, but that's about where my praise stops. 1200 lumens sounds great on paper, but it's only pushing 11,300 candela, so not much throw or usable light. Also, the 5 lumen low mode is just useless.
Major neg for the light is, unlike many competitors, it can't use rechargeable 18650 batteries. Why can't Surefire engineer this!
I have the New Surefire Fury Duel fuel tactical flashlight. 1,500lumens on a single 18650 3,400mah battery. 🇺🇸💪
Very informative and done well, thanks.
Just bought the Surefire EDCL2.....but I like the T shirt more
😁
That entry music had me thinking this was a DM Slyder video.
😎
I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about. Price & 18650 battery compatibility?!? For real? First lesson folks, don't buy direct from surefire, that saves a lot of coin. I can't tell you how many reputable vendors I've found on eBay that sell for much less than surefire or other popular vendors. And who are all these people using 18650 rechargeables? Who honestly has the time to ensure that all of their batteries are charged? Not me. Been there, won't do it again. CR123's are cheap these days. Which I do 😉 Thanks for the review!
Most everybody that carries lights run 18650s. That you don't doesn't make it not so
hollowpoint45acp could have fooled me. I guess it all depends on what circles you run in. I literally was sitting here thinking that the 18650 battery craze was a fad that ended almost 10 years ago because people didn't want to pay inflated prices for CR123's. That pricing simply does not exist any longer. But whatever floats your boat. 👍
You have a couple spare 18650 on the charger when one gets low you swap it out not that hard
Daniel Mares
That’s where we differ I have one EDC light with 2 older backups not in rotation
I think you are professional for this flashlight. Could you advise me what is the size and thickness of Glass Lens for it (EDCL2-t) please.
Looks like he really helped you...lol. :O)
My neighbors dog chases flashlight beams which would make for an interesting beam shot video.
How would you compare it to the Fury 1500 lumens, and which one would you prefer? Thanks
The 800 with coyotes in yard on the stream light is great
So I can only say this would be even better
Just would not be on my 92G Thanks
Thanks for highlighting the EDCL2T. Any truth to the rumor that this can be powered by a 16650 battery?
Surefire finally catching back up to reality now it seems. For a while their lights have been pretty underpowered as well as only taking proprietary or non-rechargeable batteries. Glad to see them fixing their line-up, a lot of their new lights are finally getting to current lumen levels and they're using some 18650's which has been standard with other manufacturers for a few years now.
fair enough
My 500 lumen Surefire Fury is as bright as my 900 lumen Fenix PD35
Your fury is probably just a more focused beam -- less lumens, but higher candela. That, combined with the fact that the human eye doesn't perceive lumens additively, more like logarithmically. So 900 lumens isn't twice as bright as 450 lumens, it's more like 25% brighter. To have the human eye perceive a 2x jump in brightness, you need roughly 4x the lumens. So 4k lumens will look "twice as bright" as 1000 lumens.
Snared sure thing, but their lights are not underpowered by comparison
Compared to manufacturers like Nitecore, Olight, Fenix, Klarus, Acebeam, Armytek, and many others yeah they have been underpowered for a while. They are just now getting back in the game, for the last 5+ years they've been at like half the lumens of these manufacturers for 4x the price. They're durable, sure, but these manufacturers have lights that are durable as well. Not to mention these other manufacturers have been innovating with magnetic charging, better ui's, way better moonlight/low modes, as well as other innovations.
If that light shines on his head the backsplash will blind you! Hey I'm just giving you a hard time. Great video!
Thank you
help, im looking to get a new carry light , is this your top choice? this vs tactition?
Drop test olight please
standby
Great review as always!
Thank you
kind of wish you show the new elzetta avs hc head beam pattern
Torn between this and the 1. I know the 2 is brighter but I feel it may be a little large for me to want to carry daily...
Get a clip for it on your belt
Looks nice!
Indeed
Cooper out here wil'in'.
🐶
Great video thank you! I know most E -series lights will fit in the Scout 600 series, will this one fit? Thanks once again
Is that a hi point on your shirt?
Thanks for the vid. Will this accept an 18650 battery? Thanks again.
no
how does it compare in size to the streamlight 2LX ?
EDCL2-TDF... Why has Surefire not made this light yet 🤷🏼♂️
That's a dream light.
Looks promising
Have you used the surefire rechargeable CR123s in this light yet?
i have. works great!
Could you please provide a link to olight warrior
Does this flashlight fit in the polymer belt holster surefire has? The polymer speed holster or whatever they call it
good intro music bro, where'd you get that?
btw; i love your torch reviews. 100% thorough and perfect. thanks!!!
not sure offhand
haha such sick pups!! great vid too very powerful lights
Thank you
Great video! How would you rate it compared to the streamlight protac 2lx?
more expensive, brighter, likely more durable, doesn't take 18650s, etc...
Hi! Would it fit the Tyhrum tail clip?
Is surefire waterproof?
How would this compare vs the E2D Defender Ultra vs the Fury Intellibeam please? Thank you
Can you use a 18650 battery instead?
I can't get the strong dual to work after alot of wear and tear.. anyone know how to fix that?
I was out as soon as you said two CR123's, I was hoping this light was an AA light but I should have known better seeing 1200 lumens in the title. Surefire has got to move away from 123 batteries.
they're the best "duty" use batteries made IMO.
No doubt, if you use your light every single day for work, cr123’s are the best by far
What candela is it?
The O light gives a wider radius of view
So do I this one or the tactician?
thats my debacle too lol
depends what you want/like
Does it have a turbo mode for spooks in the night while exploring a cave during a storm?
🤔
Mrgunsngear Channel there is a video of a guy exploring a cave while testing out a new flashlight. In the cave, he starts hearing whispers and decides to go further in. The guy just thinks it’s the win, but can clearly hear one of the whispers say “You can’t see me, I’m a shadow among the shadows.” Instead of running out, he just walks back. The video is called Creepy Sounds Captured in an Abandoned Mine While Reviewing the ThruNite TN12 Flashlight
I'll buy made in the U.S.A any day. Surefire. 👍🇺🇸
It ALL is NOT made here in the USA.
You don't have to worry about using it too much or practicing too much if it's rechargeable.
fair enough
M2T over the M2R?! Whaaat? The M2R and EDCL2-T are the what looks the best for EDC. M2R mainly, for use of any battery.
Has anyone put the EDCL2-T head on a 600 series scout body? Thanks for the review 👍🏼
Dogs are the Guest models for today?? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
+Mrgunsngear does this light have a pretty tight beam that can reach out to distance? Similar to the E2D but brighter?
similar to the E1D*
yes
+Mrgunsngear Channel thanks dad
Your shirt says glock but looks like a hi point
M2T for me .
Spartan J not sure why I don’t see more people using Olights. I have the M2T and it’s great. Cr123 or 18650. I like th UI more since tail is high only or strobe.
But what is the CANDELA?
steven leflar 25,000 according to some dude on the candlepower forums who said he spoke to Surefire directly.
animalmother556x45 that’s actually pretty good.
steven leflar okay, I found the post again....
Assuming same LED and optics, that puts the EDCL1-T at 5,200 candela + burst."
Again....just some dude on the internet...who knows if he actually spoke to them.
animalmother556x45 no worries, my HL-X still has more candela and I don’t see any reason in switching anytime soon.
Dope.
Indeed
How does this light compare to the elzetta bravo?
output/weight/pattern/size/price/ all vary
they need a higher lumen DFT model... Then they can take my money.
Not the only thing I carry that's 5.84 inches. OH WAIT. LOL
No review of the surefire g2x mv?
I don't just crap out reviews. I use things then make reviews based on experience. Stay tuned...
Bomb proof?
Would it survive Garand Thumb knowledge bombs?
I think you would be safe
Indeed!🤘✊🇺🇸
Indeed
please make a review of the lantern Surefire g2x maxvision.
noted
Mrgunsngear Channel an interesting flashlight , and reviews on TH-cam there is no
Sick light but I cannot imagine carrying something so big as an edc with all my other crap. But if If I had like a rig I wore for security or leo I would deff rock it. As for regular Ed's I would say the streamlight macrostream is about as big as I would consistently carry
Love the Macro. The Micro was ehhh😒 something was missing but when they launched the Macro it was perfect.
Look at more budget friendly lights like the Streamlight Protac series
TheRollingTrip Absolutely!! Love my Protac 1L-1AA
search that in my channel and you'll see 5-10 videos so....
Will do thanks. Side note, that notification just scared me. Thought you posted a video with that title, lol.
Isnt that the Yeager light?
TheBoosteddub nope
6:40 in the vid
Gabe Logan the tactician
Great review.
Any tactical reason why the tail end of these flashlights don’t come flush with the compression button so they can stand on end and act like a candle light? I feel like there could be a type of tactical reason for standing it on its end as a light source such as a first aid or rescue type situation in a dark space.
Honestly the light on that Olight seemed better and I hate to say that because it’s not the American one LOL. I will try to focus on the fact that the Olight is less durable.
Are Surefire flashlights usb or otherwise rechargeable? Asking because those 123 batteries are expensive.
Great light and Bomb proof except for the junk pocket clip. They should implement the "Tactician" pocket Clip on all
Models.
I disagree on that one
The bezel up clip is garbage
