I have been a software dev for many years. Now, at the ripe, but hopefully not mouldy, age of 59 I am switching to XR and possibly digital twins. I am not “there” yet, but I will be soon. If I can do it, anyone can! Stay focused, dedicated, and enjoy the challenge!

hello @deedoo4334, i have huge interest in digital twin and its applications, i have got a cs degree. is there a path i can take up to get there in XR/digital twin space? currently i am preparing for an SDET role for any entry into tech.

I'm a computer engineering student at age of 24 I'm doing a post bacc. I did web development and IT in my first degree trying to switch into embbeded systems and hardware because it's more hands on not just programming numbers on a screen. How interactive is VR?

Almost exactly the same path I took getting into software development during the emergence of the PC back in the early 80s. I see the VR landscape as history repeating and it's pretty exciting to be back on the leading edge of emerging tech that is going to change the landscape yet again.

Hi thanks for the video 😊 I recently had my very first VR experience and it blew my mind! I currently work within city/urban planning and I wanna shift into tech and make VR experiences. I’m not really interested in making games but I’d like to create immersive experiences of what cities or places can look like. I have no idea where to start and what courses or software to search for or look into. Any advice? Thank you!

Thanks Justin! I'd be keen to hear more about the enterprise side of VR dev, and how you'd recommend getting in touch with clients, besides creating a VR youtube channel :).
I imagine the apps are quite different from games, it'd be good to know what type of apps clients are typically looking for to get an idea of what skills would be needed before trying to take on client jobs.

Nearly a year ago, I had quit my job (yeah, not the brightest idea but was a needed change) to take a class on VR development in Unity and then focus on XR. I've wandered off that path since, need to make it back. Thanks for sharing your personal path to where you are today. Fun fact: I also failed physics in college! LOL But I was already on the CS path, just took a slightly different degree.

I am still in shock seeing you at XRTERRA's bootcamp because I followed your youtube channel before hand. what I learned about VR is trial and error.. lots of trial and errors. I am currently working on photon multi player integration to unity. - Love daviethedev Davie XR

I'm still in college for a Comp Sci degree but it is going to take longer than four years due to deceptive degree requirements. I also failed physics, lol.
I've messed around in Unity for years making scenes without much code, but I picked up Hurricane VR and Auto Hand during the Asset Store's Black Friday sale! I'm finally starting to mess around with them and hoping I can start making VR games soon!
Thanks for passing on your knowledge Justin, it's super helpful!

The video does not really fit into the title. Yes sure how you got the gigs etc is interesting but you said nothing about the technical side.
Nothing about 3d modelling, you mentioned unity, but you never got past that and making more performance sensitive applications?
How do you find inspiration for your projects etc.

    • @JustinPBarnett
      @JustinPBarnett  ปีที่แล้ว

What do you mean? How I got gigs is literally how I became a professional VR dev, lol. Tutorials like how to use Unity, 3D model, or make optimized games were out of scope for this video.

I was lucky enough to experience VR with one of the original VIVE headsets in VR chat a week after my brother got it after pre-ordering it, I bought it from him when he decided he wanted to upgrade to a INDEX, but all of it felt so amazing, I really enjoyed drawing with markers in 3D and it's why I'm watching this right now, from several years of a likeness for a certain part of VR to a game, this is where it all begins, I know basics of blender cause of avatar creation and some web design along with sounds for youtube videos, but coding has not been my strong suit, so I'm hoping that I can at least make something decent for what I have in mind given I pour enough time into it with learning.

I am quite confused about which laptop should I buy or which one should be best suited for this. I'm looking for a Mac Book Pro-M2 processor, is it worth it for AR/VR development? If not which one should I choose?

This looks interesting as I am curious how you became a professional developer. I am not sure if I am considered a professional developer or not as I started from zero when the first COVID lockdown happened when my old career died (independant IT Management Consulting) and I started learning development and now have the 6th highest rated title on App Lab making money. Does that make me a professional developer? I do not feel like I am as I have never taken a course on any of the things I am doing, just TH-cam videos like yours and similar. On that, thank you Justin for the content and paying it forward.
