He Was the MOST SCRUTINIZED QB in TENNESSEE HISTORY (What Happened to Jarrett Guarantano?)

- At one time, Jarrett Guarantano was the #1 dual threat QB coming out of high school and was expected to save Tennessee football. Sadly despite being one of the top statistical QBs in Vols history, JG went down as a huge disapointemtn and was probably the most disappointing QB in the last few years for them. Today, I want to talk about the rise & fall of Jarrett Guarantano and talk about what happened to him, enjoy!
I want to make 84 more videos in 2023, what topic should I add to the list?
What's the name of the background music???
Was UT’s season a bust if they miss the playoffs but have arguably one of the most complete rosters.
Sarks life & coaching comeback and how he went from being dismissed at USC/alcoholic to finally winning more than 10 games

-Why Dan Lanning is what many thought Mel Tucker would be including starting as the Georgia DC
-Why GJ Kinne has the potential to be a HOF college football head coach
Guarantano could be extremely accurate. He single handedly led Tennessee to a win over Auburn in 2018 and became the 3rd UT QB to ever throw for over 400 yards in a game 2019 vs Missouri. But his decision making was awful throughout, and by the time you’re a junior or senior you’ve got to cut those out
Jesus loves you and everyone
@@Babylion2311Amen
That Kentucky game was fun too... 2019 maybe? He threw a hail Mary to Calloway at the end the first half...
Me being a SEC fan, I got a chance to watch Guarantano on many an occasion. I know he played on some teams in which the offensive line left a lot to be desired, along with a pedestrian supporting cast. However, the young man fought valiantly...it's just that sometimes things didn't go his way...like in a headscratching fashion. Don't get me wrong, he did make some questionable decisions at times which did not put the team in a good position to win, but I thought for what he put into it, he deserved better results. But, that's just how it goes sometimes. Fans can be very hard on these kids and they've got to live with it the rest of their lives.
I agree with most of what you said but he was throwing to 3 NFL WRs most of his career in Jennings, callaway, and Josh Palmer and they bailed him out on a lot of 50/50 balls. He was more so screwed by horrible coaching that shot his confidence
@@NotNoah84Yep
I never thought he was gonna be anything but a huge flop. Saw it in the under armour game when he continued to overthrow wide open backs and receivers even in that game. I'm almost convinced that he and Milton are somehow related as both leave tons of points on the field.
They are both related. I am their father. I named him Joe Milton because I believe every family should have a Joe Milton. I named Jarret Guantanamo after Guantanamo Bay in Cuba where I wanted Jarret to work at as a prison guard, but he lied to me and instead played QB.
I hope JG comes back to TN one day!! He’s VFL and worked his butt off on bad teams. Fans should respect his career.
JG went through at least 3 different offensive systems at Tennessee, plus he really never had a great offensive line to block for him. He had a few great individual players, but that's about it! I remember a Georgia game, at their field. He was on the ground the entire game!
He had a O-like full of 5 stars in 2020 but it arguably was his worst season. He just could’nt make the reads fast enough for the Sec much like Milton for us this year
Josh Dobbs figured it out
Thanks for sharing. As Vol fan, I always wondered what happened to him.
I remember Urban Meyer and OSU recruited him heavy.
Shoulda went there
JG was my QB all 4 years I was in school at Tennessee. Didn’t go to plan for us but he represented the school well and showed a lot of class despite all the negativity around him.
You played for the Vols?
@@ScottFisherCFB he probably just went to school there
Just a student
Tennessee insider Austin Price said during the summer that despite everything JG and his family still love Tennessee.
JG was one of the skill players who got caught up in the series of bad coaching hires at Tennessee. He was underdeveloped by bad coaching and was forced to play in an offensive scheme that was inept. He was plagued with on field disappointments and never really gained the admiration of the Tennessee fan base. Most fans felt that JG was unreliable in big situations and that his shortcomings outweighed any effectiveness he displayed. Call him a casualty of the instability in the Tennessee football program prior to Josh Heupel being hired. JMO
He is now currently in the xfl and usfl combined league ufl with the houston roughnecks
JG inherited a destitute situation in Tennessee. Right guy at the wrong time in the wrong place I think. If he had joined a stable program, he could’ve been a fantastic backup and become a VERY successful starter. There was just too much in the water in Knoxville at the time. And there still is, Tennessee is the punk rock step child of the SEC at this point.
Whats the name of the background muic of the video, please tell me i like it.
This Joe Milton video is spot on
JG was absolutely beat to death his first two seasons at Tennessee due to a horrible offensive line which was allowed to languish under Dooley who failed to recruit a single offensive lineman in one season resulting in players being moved around to fill holes. UT even started a walk-on linebacker at OL.
What are you talking about Derek Dooley for? That man was gone after 2012.
@@realmiller7203 did you actually read what I wrote? If so, you wouldn’t have asked this question.
@deanday2148 yeah I read your comment and any player that Dooley recruited was gone by the time Guarantano was even on the roster so I don't get what your trying to say, if anyone is to blame it's Butch Jones or Pruitt. Dooley had nothing to do with Guarantano or his protection. I don't even like Dooley, I just didn't understand why he was in the comment. Dobbs done fine with it and could at least compete. Guarantano made my eyes bleed.
JG could have been a lot better at UT but due to injuries and bad coaching and a bad culture he just never really panned out but he was definitely a good person and he was always tough even when he was getting hit on every single play. And honestly he probably did more in the NFL than Joe Milton will do. JG probably would have been a stud in Heupel's offense with this culture.
Why then wasn’t Milton any good in Heupel’s “System and Culture”???
This doesn’t make any sense to me 🤷♂️
Heupel is supposed to be a “QB WHISPERER”
I just don’t see it 🤷♂️
Who’s he “developed” that Wasn’t Already Great???
And why did he Not play Nico More last Season 🤔
Maybe I’m Missing Something but i just don’t See it
JG got dealt a shit o line. Poor dude was probably the most sacked UT QB in History. He was tuff. He went thru a coaching roller coaster which did not help him.
A former player that was around the locker room during the JG tenure said his body was completely broken after that freshman season. He took so many shots. He was tough as hell, but it caught up to him. They used a bag of doritos to develop him too.
I’m a Bama fan and loved this kid. UT wasn’t to good when he was there. He was constantly running for his life. I felt bad for him. He had no line. No real talent on those teams.
In the 2016 recruiting cycle, Jarrett Guarantano was ranked #1 dual threat QB per Composite 247 and Jalen Hurts was ranked #1 dual threat QB per 247 sports
Felt like JG deserved a video, why didn't he work out Tennessee?
Horrible, horrible coaching. Feel sorry for the kid.
He turned the ball over because he couldn’t read a defense
I was expecting him to be great!
On the subject of former Tennessee QBs and asking for more videos, can you please do Will McBride (2017-18), JT Shrout (2018-2020), Brian Maurer (2019-2020) or Harrison Bailey (2020-2021)?
I have done one on Bailey! the others are great, but i will prob do Quinten Dormady next haha
I think if the o line(s) and coaching had been better/more consistent he would have been better. It's also the most competitive league in college so it really is no surprise that a great hs qb was below average in the SEC. As a TN fan I appreciate his efforts and time in orange and I've watched him get up after getting pummeled time after time by some of the best pass rushers in the country and play games w that broken wrist. Tough guy for sure
Do Blake Barnett!!
The dude wasnt terrible between the 20's most times. But he was a nightmare in the red zone. Our problem this year weve had problems scoring field goals instead of touchdowns in the red zone sure, but JG turned the ball over there..... ALOT
Heartbreaking.
What happened to J.G. ? Butch Jones and Jeremy Pruitt happened to JG. Tennessee had a run of horrible coaches after Fulmer and until Heupel
they were running alot of wildcat and RPO which requires speed. Unfortunetly SEC speed wasnt his skill set.
i agree he played with Heart determination and Courage, Just strange watching a QB being ran down by lineman and linebackers routinely
I'll go to my grave thinking the only reason that 2019 team won 8 games was Jauan Jennings. Maybe the most beloved WR in the history of the university.
I honestly believe JG would have been a much better QB if he had received better coaching. The same is true for Joe Milton III. UT has got to build a player development program. 4 and 5 star players aren't lining up to come to UT so UT needs to create them from 2 and 3 star recruits. But even 4 and 5 star players can improve given a proper coach that understand the position they play.
I'm sorry but that's a horrible take lol CJH has had a VERY good coaching staff in place if you look back most of the guys he put in the league since being at UT were 3 star or lower rated 4 star prospects Milton is a 6th year senior who has gotten benched everywhere he went, keep in mind this is still a team who 3 short years ago lost 30+ players to the transfer portal (almost half of which were starters) CJH is literally working with 3-4 star recruits as we speak.
JG would be more successful then Joe Milton in Heupels offense. I don’t care what anyone says
Jesus saves
Wtf you smoking
Had he had Huepel coaching him up as a freshman yes. But had he just jumped into the system in 2021 instead of transferring, no shot
@@jakobbuckles4472or he’d have gotten him fired just like he did 3 OCs and 2 HCs
Milton is guarantano 2.0
I really thought when he came to Wazzu that he might flourish in our offense. Thought wrong. DeLaura had leadership ability that JG obviously lacked. The entire Rolovich era was something of a tire fire post-Leach. Between Cammon Cooper never getting a fair opportunity and DeLaura being Rolovich's "guy" the entire program lost some credibility even before Rolovich stood his ground on the vaccine requirements that made national headlines. Weird era overall.
Playing at TN probably, more than likely led to a lack of confidence which led to an ability to lead.
I feel bad for the kid. he got hit more than any other QB in UT history. A lot of his struggles were his fault but he also got extremely unlucky with the surrounding circumstances of his Tennessee career. More than any other Tennessee starter.
Felt bad for the guy…..he was pretty good until they got into the red zone. It was frustrating. Wished things had developed differently
Do New Mexico State. And Jerry kill
JG was a victim of awful coaches. Kid taught hard for Tennessee.
JG never had a decent O line at Tennessee. He got the crap knocked out of him because of that.
UT fan here, I largely think JG got let down by the program, he had so little stability at UT and usually had a bad offensive line. BUT, he didn't do himself any favors. He made some of the most god awful decisions I've ever seen. It was like his brain stopped working at key moments, and that kind of mental block made it impossible for him to take the next step as a leader of the offense.
He really did looked confused many times and I suspect he really didn’t get any good coaching at UT. However, he’s most vilified for that one play at Alabama.
A New Jersey kid saying “what’s better than the SEC” is CRAZY to me. ESPN has really brain washed these kids. They really have these kids thinking the whole SEC is completing for a National Championship every year when it’s really 2-3 every year 😆
Yeah
And UTjr hasn’t done anything since “1998”!!!
Probably not gonna do anything for another 25-30 Years 🤣🤣🤣
Jg dealt with one of the worst coaches In tennessee history.he had NFL wide outs all over and still could not develop
You can do Joe Milton Next 🤣
Jg has to have the ncaa record for most head coaches fired while he was playing. Pruitt and butchy at ut and then he goes to wash st and that guy gets fired. To top it off he plays for arizona cardinals for 1 season and that guy gets fired. Come on guys this guy was a trainwreck. Ive never seen a guy who looked like the part coming off the bus look so bad when playing. Yet the above coaches kept putting him in. He looked like he was wearing concrete boots when he ran. Defensive linemen could run himdown.ive never been so happy to see a player leave.
He was doomed the moment Butch Jones threw him to the wolves that Alabama game 45-7 i believe. Couldn't believe they sid him like that as a freshman no less
Hes the starting QB for the Houston UFL team now.
I wish he would have gone to Rutgers he was terrible
Bad choice going to Tennessee.. should have went to Ohio State or Alabama where they had real coaches.
I would be offended, but given when he played i have to agree with you.
Both Qbs are terrible so embarrassing to read this 😂😂
Just seeing JG at spring game one year I knew he was gonna suck. Jesus worst years of Football next to the Dooley years. Hated seeing him on the field. Garbage QB.
More VOLS RELATED CONTENT……positive or negative ether way love your videos!
Bad coaches who recruited off of stars instead of their own evaluations. Kid never had it.
God even watching his highlights in HS you can see him only staring down receivers.
JG was either really good or horrible. I'll say this, though....he's one of the TOUGHEST guys to ever wear orange. No one can take that away from him.
Since Manning has any QB lived up to the hype at Tennessee? Always overshoot expectations.
Hooker far exceeded expectations
hendon hooker maybe? he's the only one i can think of that had some hype that's also played well
Martin, though statistically not as great, won a natty which Peyton never did
But then you have to jump all the way to Hooker, which somehow, exceeded expectations and underachieved at the same time
I've watched a lot of college football , and even TN. football over the years , and unlike so many , I am *NOT* that impressed with Manning .
If I owned a professional franchise , Casey Clausen would be the guy that I would have drafted .
@@WISHBONEL7 Are you sure you watch college football? 🙂
Guarantano got the hell beat out of him at Tennessee
I blame the coaches. Butch was bailed out by Dobbs. Pruitt was clueless
JG's talend was never really developed by an elite offensive coaching staff. Heupel would have dramatically imroved im to a legit NFL draft. Before Heupel, TN was mostly a defensive school and that benefited the offense. JP was never going to develop JG. Most of what JG did was from his own abilities and developing them himself. He was a poster for for crash test dummy sacks. The guy was made of rubber and took some of the worst punishment defenses could deliver. If anything, I think he can improve in the NFL over time. Even as just a back up QB in the NFL is an achievement considering who had coached him at TN.
Toughest damn Qb I have ever seen.
I think this young man would have been much better had tennessee had better coaching
JG is the guy everyone loved to make excuses for and I have never been happier to see a QB leave
He was bad at a time when everything in Tennessee was bad.
I don’t care what you say he had heart
He was definitely safe ! He didnt make stupid decisions. He just couldnt read defense
This guy was the biggest dumpster of a QB that we have ever had. I wanted him gone every week
He threw picks because he couldn’t tell the difference between wide open and triple coverage
Lyle “Butch” Jones and inbreed Jeremy Pruitt along with four different offensive coordinators is what happened.
It seems like he was overrated when he was coming out of high school and should of been humbled and took his ass to Rutgers, but all these kids wanna do is go to the same 10 ole schools
Is biggest blunders when he called his own number against Alabama and fumbled
JG just didn't have it between the ears and didn't look off receivers well.. he is just average
It’s BERG-in not Ber-Jin, spelled Bergen.
He didn’t have a decent OL hard to make good throws when your running for your life or getting sacked every other play
This guy was worse than Joe Milton lmfao how is that possible
he was all about himself, and pruitt didnt help much.
Bumbaclot 😅
He couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a pass.
Jg was so trash
Dude was god awful
@ScottFisherCFB you know Best Buy sells microphones for this sort of thing.
You sound like you’re talking into a can.
Omg forgot he exists
He’s like the one we have now
I always felt bad for him but he was a headcase.
