@ATL4L, let’s not boo a player even if we do want him to leave and have another QB. That’s just not respectful and no matter how he plays, as a person he deserves respect because he’s a young man of character and he’s a genuinely good guy. I don’t think anyone in his position would want to be treated like that. Especially not from his own fans at Neyland.
I agree he should go and Bailey should play but there’s no place for hating players. JG got death threats last year, which is over the line and again there’s no place for that. Hopefully Bailey will keep playing these Sunday scrimmages and Pruitt will choose him and JG comes off the bench the rest of the season #GoVols #GBO

I say this all the time. Pruitt gives JG countless chances but gives everyone else a “one-and-done” chance on the field. I don’t care if every other QB is worse than JG, you know what you get when JG is on the field. I’m sure he’s a good guy off the field, but he is not a starting SEC caliber QB and Pruitt needs to stop treating him as one.

As "nice" of a kid as JG is, even the Tennessee faithful, like myself are ready to see him go. The final straw with me was the loss to Kentucky, which JG personally lost for us. Pruitt also earned his first strike with most VOL fans (meaning 3 strikes and you're out) by NOT taking JG out during that game (Kentucky) after his catastrophic play. After 2 years of consistent wins over SC, KY, and Vandy, I felt like we were starting to own those games and (as you said in your video) start making strides toward competing for the east once again, but Pruitt's loss to Kentucky caused him to take a step backwards as far as a lot of FANS are concerned. At this point Pruitt would have to win out, including a home win against the Gators to redeem his poor decision making this year, but since (as you also said) he is so "set" on JG being "the guy" the VOLS will most likely not even having a winning this year. IT SUCKS SO BAD TO BE A TENNESSEE FAN, but hey the Titans are doing pretty good I'll just focus on them, till next season, lol.

I agree, Ethan. The problem is not solely on JG. The coaching is a problem as well. From Pruitt’s obsession with JG to the staff’s inability to develop players, we do not - and have not - have competent coaches. Alvin Kamara was not great at UTK but is a stud in the NFL. JG has made some progress since he first became a starter but not much. I don’t see it happening, but I hope we move on from JG for the rest of the season.

    • @wutamamama
      @wutamamama 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@HeyltsEvan, agreed. We have to develop players and I’m baffled why QB’s haven’t progressed, especially Shrout. It’s either they just aren’t that talented and just aren’t progressing that well, or we’re just not coaching them very well to get them developed.
A #2 QB should be plug and play at this point. Maurer had an entire year. I know he got injured. But the entire offense should be able to run through him and Shrout.
Now you got Bailey, I hope they’re very serious about making sure he’s up to speed on the entire playbook ASAP. Looking at highlights of his high school career, he was ridiculous. Have a hard time believing he wouldn’t be able to learn the offense in a short amount of time with how high a level he played previously. Put him in coach!

  • @xlxl9440
    @xlxl9440 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

First I will say that I absolutely love JG!!! He's a great kid, who has represented Tennessee as well as he could be asked to do. He's a young man that you can tell has been raised the right way, and so he does the right things. He has graduated, and chose to come back to Tennessee when he didn't have to. And he is definitely tough. He has proven that many times over. BUT IT IS TIME TO MOVE ON FROM HIM AS THE STARTING QUARTERBACK! He has cost Tennessee football 42 points directly over the last 3 games just off of turnovers alone. He still has issues with pocket awareness, and decision making. And he is not bad all of the time. But when he makes a mistake, he makes it big! He miscues are always at the worst times and points of a game. Its actually really weird, but his timing could not be worse. And what is so frustrating is that he has the tools to be great. He has a cannon for an arm.
He's very accurate particularly with the long ball. He has decent mobility that can get him out of trouble, and get some yards upfield. And he's a smart guy who graduated in under four years. And I truly believe that he is performing well in practice. But for some reason, he has a knack for screwing up spectacularly in critical game situations. He's been here for five years, this is not going to change. It's time to focus on Harrison Bailey, and let JG be the mentor to him. JG can be the backup, while preparing Bailey for the future. Tennessee should be getting JG ready to become a grad assistant if he wants to go into coaching, or getting him ready to compete for a spot in the Canadian Football League. He's got a slim to none chance of making an NFL roster. And let's be real. We were not going to beat Bama. They look unstoppable right now. But we definitely were in it with Georgia until JG basically gave them 21 points. And we had no business losing to Kentucky, but did so because JG spotted them 21 points and the momentum of that game. There is no reason why Tennessee shouldn't be a one loss team right now. But a Football quarterback is the most important position in any team sport by far. If you have bad quarterback play, you have a bad team. Harrison Bailey needs to be in there cutting his teeth this year. It is basically a free year. Why not take advantage of it with Bailey. He's a 5 star recruit, who was one of the best in the country at his position. He could not do any worse than JG! And who knows, maybe he would grow comfortable quickly, and actually produce on the field. He wouldn't be the first freshman quarterback to do so. He is the future of Tennessee football.

Tennessee is regressing and Pruitt is the reason. He continues to play a subpar QB. Now he is starting to use COVID, like every other team didn’t have the same challenge. Firing the d-line coach was an excuse, leaving the defense on the field for 2/3 of every game is the issue. 3 and out every series is the problem. At this point it’s time to play all the QBs and see who shines. One each of the next three games, this way you get a good look for the future and evaluate the pros and cons. At best we are looking at 3-4 wins this year, so you should at least evaluate your talent in gameday scenarios so that you understand exactly what you have for the future. I am a vol fan, but very hard to stand by a team where the coach puts them in regression by his decision making.

The fact that Harrison Bailey got zero snaps down by 30 against Bama is laughable. Pruitt is going to lose his job because of his shortsighted decision making. Also, why did it take 5 games for Pruitt to get Jalin Hyatt meaningful snaps. His talent was obvious.

I see a lot of parallels between Guarantano and Devin Gardener. Both a couple of 5-star QBs, lots of hype.
Gardener never lived up to the hype at UM, but I never questioned his heart. He almost beat OSU with a broken leg- that dude was a warrior. Unfortunately, people will only remember the bad, and how Michigan pretty much went back to where they were before Hoke got there.
I feel for Guarantano- nothing hurts more than when you put your heart and soul into something and it doesn’t work out. Hopefully he doesn’t quit and finds something he can excel at.

I think we need several different coaches replaced ! The defensive secondary has been awful for years. Quarterback coach hasn’t shown that his quarterbacks are doing any better. I don’t see the fire 🔥 in the players that should be there. The only time I see any fire is when one of the players make some stupid infraction like a personal foul ! There is definitely a disconnect in this program. Makes me wonder who is holding the cards ? Could it be someone higher ?

Don’t know if I commented before but I remembered this and came back to give it another look. Your right on this....I just wish there could have been a different way for the story to end for JG. Love the kids heart and he’s got the thickest skin I’ve ever seen....I would have been screaming back at the haters “think you could do better come on!” 😁
There’s no doubt in my mind circumstances and negligence by the many coaches he had made the story of Jarrett at UT.
Yeah some of the failures he had were on him but ultimately it goes back to the “coaches” especially the “head” of the program. Their failure to be developing good SEC ready QBs at UT started what turned into the dumpster fire of 2020. JG at a different program with a somewhat stable offensive line with the capability to play pass protection.....he would have succeeded in that scenario. He needs that half a second more to shine. So I don’t put it all on him.....these overpaid coaches that are so smart at the game of college football......well, what position has the most impact potential in football? The ding dang QB!!!! They know this and it makes me question the powers that be at UT! It’s SEC football.... and the top teams are at the top and stay there because of the gunslingers they recruit at QB. Tennessee will only be the Tennessee of old winning 8 games or more per year when they start developing QBs again....no it won’t guarantee SEC titles or championships but honestly what would Butch Jones’s overall record have been if it were not for that superhero Josh Dobbs? Can’t tell you how many 3rd and goal from the 20 and Dobbs would extend the play then it was a race to the pylon....TD, Josh Dobbs! so you either need a TRUE dual threat QB to keep the linebackers on their heels or you got to develop young talent to play like Mac Jones, Trask, etc. of course special teams, o-line, d-line, secondary, backs, receivers, kickers: it takes all of them to be a team.....but to be in the top 10 you have to have solid QB play. Impossible to win consistently without a “man” in that position.
    Just my unimportant two cents.😏
    Liked the video

After back-to-back loses to Texas A&M and Alabama after starting 5-0 in 2016, I still said that Tennessee would win the SEC East. But after the 2016 loss to South Carolina, I knew that not only was Tennessee not winning the division but I also knew that Butch Jones wasn't going to remain as Tennessee's head coach for long. What happened over the next 3 years after the loss to South Carolina?
Tennessee did not win the SEC East, they lost to Vanderbilt three consecutive times, they played in the 2016 Music City Bowl vs Nebraska, they went on to lose to South Carolina in 2017 and 2018 (another 3 consecutive year lose), in 2017 they finished 4-8 (0-8 in conference play) marking the first time in program history Tennessee finished a season with 8 losses. By the time they lost to Missouri in 2017, it lead to perhaps the most embarrassing problems of this time period from 2016 to 2019 for Tennessee.
After the 2017 loss to Mizzou, Butch Jones was fired with two games left, (as mentioned) Tennessee finished the season 4-8 (first 8 loss season for Tennessee), the Greg Schiano fiasco where, just as he was about to be hired, Tennessee fans didn't want him as the coach because they thought he knew about what Sandusky did at Penn State (even though Schiano was vetted and clearly had no knowledge about it), the Athletic Director (who wasn't even on the job for a full year) ends up fired, and once 2017 was over Tennessee had a losing streak against the other 13 SEC Teams.
The situation at Tennessee was so bad that when they were looking for a new head coach, no one wanted to go near the program. Mike Leach, Dan Mullen, and other head coaches didn't want to be the coach. Those coaches eventually went somewhere else.
2018 seemed to be a signal of a better day for Tennessee with a win at Auburn making it the first time in nearly two years Tennessee won a conference game (as well as Tennessee's first win over an SEC West Opponent since 2010) but they still lost to both South Carolina (by that point 0-7 vs Will Muschamp) and Vanderbilt (making them 2-5 vs the 'Dores since the 2012 meeting and 8-6 vs the 'Dores since the 2005 meeting) for a third consecutive year.
2019 started off as the continuation of what had been going on since the 2016 South Carolina game. They started off 0-2 with back-to-back home loses against Georgia State and BYU, then became 1-4 by October 5th. But the next week on October 12th, they defeated Mississippi State (making it the first time since 2008 they defeated Mississippi State, their first win vs an SEC West foe in Neyland since 2010, and the first time since 1992-2008 Tennessee defeated SEC West opponents in consecutive seasons).
After the October 5th loss to Georgia, they won 6 of their last 7 finishing 2019 with a 7-5 record, plus a Gator Bowl victory over Indiana making them 8-5 (5-3 in SEC Play). This gave the Tennessee Volunteers their first Winning season in three years. It's been a struggle for Tennessee following the 2016 South Carolina loss.
I do believe that a lot of Tennessee's problems are fixable, they just need to brainstorm ideas on what needs to be done to actually resurrect this program.

I agree, it’s time to have Bailey come in and play the rest of the year. JG is nothing like what he should’ve been coming into this season. He was the #1 Dual Threat QB in the country coming out of HS (even ranked higher than Jalen Hurts) but has completely regressed in his Jr and Sr year. He’s constantly over/under throwing receivers, can’t feel pressure in the pocket and is still making terrible reads. Don’t get me started on his “dual threat” aspect of his game. These are mistakes that he should not be making as a redshirt SR. It’s time to move on, he’s not going to get any better

  • @Britton_Thompson

Sorry bro, I know you're a fan, but it runs much deeper than that. It's not just QB play that accounts for Tennessee's deterioration as an overall program for the past 20 years. It's actually because of it's geography. No, seriously. It is. Allow me to explain...
What do all of college football's former historically great programs have in common? What common trait do all the faded powers share? By "faded powers", I'm referring to programs like Tennessee, Nebraska, Notre Dame, and Michigan. We know they all have illustrious histories, but why do they struggle so much in the present day?
Easy. It's location. Each of those programs reside in states with insufficient high school talent recruiting yields. The states of Tennessee, Michigan, Indiana, and Nebraska routinely fall somewhere in the middle, or even the back, of the line when it comes to high school talent production annually. If you don't have a home state powerbase capable of sustaining your program year after year- even during lean times -you're not going to remain a consistent winner. The only exception to this rule is Oklahoma- the Sooners have been so well entrenched into the Texas recruiting pipeline for so many decades by now that they've essentially become another in-state Texas team.
You're a Tennessee fan, right? Go back and look at the rosters of some of those last championship contending teams you had under Phil Fulmer in the late 90s-early 2000s. Virtually all the top stars on those Volunteers teams were from outside the state of Tennessee. Fulmer was one of the first SEC coaches to realize in the early 90s that TV had leveled the playing field in recruiting. Now you could go into other states and sign top recruits anywhere, whether that be the west coast, north Texas, or south Florida. The greatest QB in UT history (Peyton Manning) is from south Louisiana, hundreds of miles away from Knoxville. But that didn't matter as much anymore by the late 80s and early 90s. If you were on national and regional television each week, your program could be inside every potential recruit's living room to make them more familiar with you.
Here's the flaw in that apparatus though- as soon as your team begins to underachieve or diminish, you lose your appeal as a destination program. But that's only one half of the equation. The other is the fact that for so long the states that have remained the top talent producers also had mediocre and underachieving programs as home state schools, which facilitated outside schools to come in and raid your state's top prospects. Sooner or later those programs will have just enough success to make players want to play for their in-state schools. This is how programs like Miami, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Georgia, and Clemson suddenly became perennial football powers when their history that preceded them shows they were mostly dismal.
Nationwide recruiting is unsustainable for programs, even if they are one of the traditional "blueblood programs". You have to always have a strong power base of high school recruited talent in your state if you wish to remain a perennial power. These are the states with the most talent production on average for the last 25 years:
    1. Florida
    2. Texas
    3. California
    4. Alabama
    5. Georgia
    6. Louisiana
    7. Ohio
    8. Mississippi
    9. South Carolina
    10. Pennsylvania
With the exception of Mississippi, each of those states are home to schools who've won conference titles, and either won or competed for national championships in that timeframe. It's why schools like Alabama, USC, Ohio State, Texas, and Oklahoma will always be royalty.
It's why Nebraska, Tennessee, Notre Dame, and Michigan have fallen by the wayside.

Seeing everything in Knoxville, I disagree with you. Yes ,Tennessee does not have a hotbed of recruits in their own state, but look how many of those states you listed border Tennessee. There are hotbeds of recruiting just over the state line in the Carolinas, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi. Tennessee has attracted many recruits due to their proximity of other Southern high schools (but not developed explained later) and having a brand that has helped many (even in bad years) make it to the NFL. I do not see most top tier D1 kids being concerned with staying in state if it hurts their chances to get tape and make it to the NFL.
Also I would not say that Notre Dame or Michigan have "faded" in any equivalent way to UT. I think most UT fans (even some of the delusional JG ones) if given the choice would trade places with the body of work either of those schools have produced in the past two decades over UT.
I believe the problem within UT is two fold. 1). Constant turnover of coaching and athletic department staff (AD) and 2). Believing that we are still a good program because of anything before 2000. There has to be a realization from the top of the athletic department that the football program has not been good for a very long time and they need to bring in top leaders that have their own legacy who challenge the players to do the same. Enough of these filler hires that do no good for anyone. Kiffin, Dooley, Jones, Pruitt. None had consistent success as a head coach before UT. There needs to be clear expectations set from a steady AD, and they need coaches to DEVELOP players not just recruit! We get coaches that have barely, if ever, had to assemble whole staffs. The people we have brought in are over their heads and are unable to evaluate and develop talent right. This is because they themselves are still in the early stages of learning as a coach. Just my opinion on the matter, and I enjoy the back and forth sports talk.
As a positive, I went to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to finish my undergrad and I have had a great time becoming a Tar Heels football fan over the last two years. Program is on the come up for real.

TN is an overall competitive football team. The problem is the QB.
Every time something special happens that seems to put a little life in the team, JG comes in and let's the air out.
JG is pretty much a buzz kill for the Vols. Think of how you feel watching the game and there's a big defensive stop or turnover or the offense makes a great gain. Then JG turns it over or runs 20 yards in the wrong direction only to take a sack.
It sucks the life out of the fans so imagine how the players feel. They're watching their potential careers go down the drain.
JG needs a minimum of 5 - 8 seconds of no pressure or he's going to panic and make bad decisions.

JG is a good guy, I think. But far too in his own head. My complaint is not with him, but rather with the coaching staff that either/both continues to prop him out there to fail and/or recruit and develop a better QB. You can see how the team doesn’t trust JG. And in both the Georgia and Kentucky games, his fumbles visibly defeated and destroyed the team. That is also a coaching failure. I am off the JG train, sure. But I’m primarily off the Pruitt train.

JG is by far the best qb on the roster excluding Bailey because we don’t know what he’s capable of. I’m usually the first to say throw someone to the wolves And see if they sink or swim. But Pruitt has said that with the line play he does not want to risk Bailey‘s future by getting him seriously hurt. Regardless if Peyton Manning was the quarterback we would still be trash because of our playcalling and how bad the offensive line has played. The defense has not done their part either so I change at quarterback It’s not even close to all this team needs to become a winning team.
