  • It's been a very long time (two months) since a proper garden update, and I have so much to show you. The seedling station in the house, how I'm potting up seedlings, pre-sprouting parsnip seeds before planting them, a tour of the vegetable garden (lots growing), a peek at a wildflower experiment, and planting up a potato for a local competition.
    One of my upcoming garden projects is also installing two Epic Gardening beds in front of the Polycrub. You can find the beds in the USA here: lets.growepic.co/lovelygreens, and you can get 5% off using my code LOVELYGREENS5 😍 They're available in the UK: glnk.io/zl3jm/lovelygreens
    I also tell you about my latest creative project: Naturally Dye Easter Eggs with Vegetables, Fruit, and Spices: lovelygreens.com/how-to-natur...

    I also found the little cloth bags around my plant roots, two years later! The plants never did well and when I dug them out, not only were the little bags still there, perfectly formed, but the roots of the plant had not grown out of them!

    • @Lovelygreens
      @Lovelygreens  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not surprised that they were still there! I suspect that they're made with plastics, like some tea bags are.

    Last frost in march?? That kinda blew me away. Located way more north than where i live in Belgium and ours is around half may. Here our last frost period is called the Ice Saint in weather/gardening folklore, its 11-15may, the namedays of some saints that nobody remembers :p

      Britain has much milder weather than the continent due to sea currents. It's generally warmer in winter and cooler in summer - though summers have been much hotter and drier these past few years!

    The coloured eggs you made look great! I have actually tried this before, using vegetables and herbs to colour eggs. I used some red cabbage that you can buy in a jar, just put some in a container surrounding the eggs, and it made a nice blue pattern on the eggs. I've tried spinach as well, and turmeric, and paprika.

    I'm interested to see how your parsnips grow with starting the seed on a paper towel & then transplanting them. We enjoy parsnips but have to be started early here. I was going to try putting a board on the seed after planting but keep them moist until they emerge & then take the board off. I've seen this done on an other video. Lorraine

    Dear Tanya, do you also use wild garlic, or as we call it bear garlic in the kitchen? In my country (Slovakia) it is a mania in spring to go to the woods and harvest them. And eat them just like that with a butter bread or make cakes out of them or pesto. :) Love your channel, love your garden. Kisses to Maggie XX

    • @Lovelygreens
      @Lovelygreens  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Little Maggie was sleeping or exploring most of the time I was filming this video. She'll no doubt pop in again soon :) As for wild garlic, we love eating it! There's A LOT of it growing at the foot of our garden and down the lane we live on. Pesto is a favourite, but we have it with most other veg, too. A friend told me recently that she dries and powders it to use as a seasoning for the rest of the year. I'm going to try that next. Waving to Slovakia - it's a country we hope to visit one day 💚

    Great video and thanks for the heads up on the Laxey seed swap, I will be there. Fingers crossed for no more frosts, especially after yesterday's snow (on the higher hills). Also, fingers crossed it will stop raining sometime soon!!!! This is my first year growing veg on the IOM and looking forward to some homegrown produce, if things go well. My first early potatoes are well on their way, I did plant them on the 17th March under fleece. The Second Early and Main crop potatoes are all in. I have sown some carrots and parsnips and I have loads of seedlings in the house (planted way too many). Just waiting for the better weather 😂🌱🌱🌱

    I accidentally removed one of my aloevera pups from the mother plant this morning while taking a leaf...I quickly planted the pup into the soil but the pup didn't have any root of its own. • @Lovelygreens
      @Lovelygreens  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are quite a few! Some are hot, like Hungarian Hot Wax, and some are mild varieties. The mild ones you can use as bell peppers or dry them for paprika. I'm growing Balalaika as a mild pepper for paprika spice.

    • @Lovelygreens
      @Lovelygreens  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've been transplanting mine from modules for years :) Works fine for me! Direct sowing can be easier, but then you have voracious slugs to contend with. That's why you use more seeds when directly sowing in the soil - one for the slug, one for the bird, and one for yourself!

    • @KittyMcGee1001
      @KittyMcGee1001 ปีที่แล้ว
