They actually do watch each other. JPJ, when he’s doing bass, has his eyes pretty much glued to Bonzo when Page is improvising and Bonzo is amazing at following Page. God what a tight group they were And just as tight in 2007

Sorry Joey, but you're wrong! BONZO, AND JOHN PAUL JONES, ARE WATCHING EACH OTHER! BUT, JIMMY PAGE IS POSESSED! NEVER WATCHING IN HIS BACK! HE'S JUST FEELI'G BONZO AND JONESY! THEY SAID, THEY GOT A TELEPATHIC LINK BETWEEN THEM! WHICH IS CLEAR, WATCHING AT THAT! THAT'S WHY THEY DECIDED TO STOP WHEN BONZO DIED! IMPOSSIBLE TO CREATE SUCH A LINK WITH SOMEONZ ELSE! SO STOP, TELLING BULLSHITS PLEASE ! THAT'S WHY THEY ARE LEGENDARY! WATCH JIMI HENDRIX AT WOODSTOCK! THE GUY, DOESN'T OPEN THEIR EYES FROM THE HALF CONCERT, UNTIL THE END! BELIEVE ME! THOSE GUYS DIDN'T NEEDED TO WATCH EACH OTHERS TO KNOW WHAT TO DO! THEY FELT IT! APPARENTLY, YOU'RE NOT A MUSICIAN! YOU, PROBABLY, NEVER PLAYED ON STAGE WITH OTHER GUYS! I DID! AND, SOMETIMES, YOU, JUST, FEEL THE MUSIC! NO NEED TO LOOK AT THE OTHERS!

One of the most memorable experiences of my life was being a teenager, baked out of my mind, and going to a midnight show at the local theater and being blown away by The Song Remains The Same film. I'd never seen anything like this live, and along with the weird insert stories interspersed with the concert footage, it was the most incredible thing I'd ever seen in my life up to that point. Back then, at least at our theater, they were very lax on what you could do in midnight shows so everyone was firing up joints, passing bottles, dancing on top of chairs as if at a real concert; it was just a brilliant free-for-all. Good, wild times.

1970 How Many More Times - Royal Albert Hall.
It’s around 20 minutes of pure improvisation.
This was when Zeppelin was at their best IMO and Robert still had that voice.
He lost it in 1973 onwards unfortunately but luckily there is quite a lot of material before then.
1969 Dazed and Confused in London, Plants voice was peak power there if you want a listen. It’s Insane!

Even after he “lost” that high banshee wail, he still went on with Zeppelin as one of the top singers around and then had and still has a 40 year solo career. Pretty good for having “lost” his voice. But I do know what you mean. Listening to him in 1968 he voice was unworldly. Later it became “only” amazing

What happened is that his voice became more erratic--good nights and bad nights. Especially on the '75 tour, during which he had a nasty sickness that only really cleared up around the time of the Royal Albert Hall performances in London. His voice was actually stronger in most of '77 and even the 8/4/79 Knebworth gig than it was for most of '75. His voice started breaking down a bit in late '72 and '73, although for these MSG gigs in mid-summer it was plenty good. I think his voice was the best overall from '68 through the '71 Japan tour, maybe up to summer '72, but he was capable of really bringing it thereafter at times. And even not at his best, the man was an incredible lead singer. He needed to be, because his bandmates were absolute powerhouses.

There is no assisting as a long enough reaction! That’s what Led Zeppelin build a reputation on, was the music. That’s why Led Zeppelin four didn’t have a cover on it didn’t have any inside stuff except for the lyrics to stay with heaven. They wanted to music to stand on its own. And that’s with Led Zeppelin is. Oh my God the beds, I hate to keep trash and Beatles but the Beatles were promoted with a certain look with a certain attitude they conducted himself a certain way they were promoted to no end. That’s what sold their music. But with Led Zeppelin, they’re popular because of their music. Not because gimmicks, because how they dress , Not because how they conduct themselves. Music alone and the concerts were legendary just like this.

Detrucci, so glad you loved what happened on that song. By then, it was 5 - 6 years as a band, playing live. In the studio, they go for the best performance, with a tight arrangement. In concert, they are always pushing themselves and each other to go to the next level. They always used to improvise and add "jams" to the studio-version of the song, to give the audience a show! And, in terms of transitions within a jam, since Jimmy was soloing, he always throws in certain riffs or lead-patterns to let the other guys know the transition is coming up and it's time to shift the groove or whatever. Yes, they are improvising but they know what the next part is going to be, once Jimmy is done and ready to transition. That, plus, since they've been playing together for so long, they do, quite often have a 6th sense for what's happening in the song. But, check it out: You can listen to lots of bootlegs that show that, hey, it's not always flawless! They often pushed themselves out on a improv-limb that they had trouble seguewaying out of in a clean way. Mistakes have been made along the way but, SO BE IT! Right? They are pushing the envelope and it might get messy here or there but they are Rock Gods! Let them work it out! :)

    • @Detrucci
      @Detrucci  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I like that attitude towards it, mistakes make you grow, anyone who is not afraid of making mistakes and failures uses that experience to make it even better and push on. The hard work mentality is so rare and now I understand why they were able to push themselves so far. They were not afraid of making little mistakes. Always pushing buttons, pushing boundaries and trying new things. I love it.

As you said this is 47 years old. You should have a look at the version of Kashmir from the reunion concert in 2007. The concert was called Celebration day and Jason Bonham played the drums instead of his dad.

Detrucci Detrucci, that entire concert in 2007 was AMAZING. Even if you do not do an online review, I would suggest to you that any song which you have already reviewed live from MSG, and which is included in the 2007 Celebration Day concert, you should watch, to see how fantastic they still sound. Obviously, at 60 years old, Plants voice no longer reaches the stratosphere. But it’s still a powerful instrument, and beautiful in the lower registers. You know it’s an older voice, with allot of living behind it. And the sheer enjoyment they are having playing together, and the way they interact with Jason Bonham is a joy to watch.

You are enjoying getting the Led out far too much, I truly wish you could have been at their concerts with us. Seeing them live was the ultimate experience. 47 years ago for this performance, and much like their performances before and after this, people went home completely drained, and high for days afterwards.

Well Zeppelin were really known not just for the great music they created but for the great improvisions they did in there live shows which were more than Phenomonal absolutely perfect and just completely separated them from other bands and there music or live shows period too me the very best at it period (: But if you listen too any zep especially whole porta of love the studio version you hear the break downs when they come in and are designed too give an easy too make a changes or improvising in the song so in there live shows they Incrediablely enhance the changes or breakdowns and created some of the most incrediable live shows ever because some songs could a 20 min song just from the changes and them jamming too the changes (: Super Mega Geniuses they were and still are (: Led Zep True GOAT Period (:

I had such high expectations for them the first time I saw them in 1975 I thought I’d be disappointed. But, from Bonzo’s opening drums on “Rock & Roll” to the encores that included “Whole Lotta Love” and “Communication Breakdown” I was overwhelmed by their mere presence in the building!! They don’t use a huge stage and light show to overstimulate the senses. It’s pretty basic. Everything is based on the music and each members talent. Not that bands who do have big light shows are trying to hide a lack of proficiency on their instruments Pink Floyd is prime example. They were so good my memories of them still today are as fresh as can be. Its like it was just last Friday night and not 45 years ago. JPJ’s bass and Bonhams drums were so solid Plant & Page could soar without worry of the timing drifting off! Thanks for stirring up my memories!

There's so many cool little tidbits about these shows Detrucci. This is from a collection of 3 different nights at MSG, some of which has been spliced together, some of the audio used on the album is not in the movie and vice-versa. They even built a replica stage a year later and had them wear the same outfits to reenact some of the live shots and spliced those in as well. Basically, it was kind of a fucking disaster as the original director couldn't get the job done so after a year of waiting they fired him and he hid the tapes! It took 3 years for them to finally release the movie and the albums with major editing for both, there are some real chop-shop doozies in the film that only make me laugh now, but they pulled it off in Zeppelin fashion and we all loved it when it came out.

The Theremin is an electronic instrument invented in 1928, named after its inventor. It features hand placement between 2 Antennas. Hand proximity to 1 determines frequency (pitch) and volume to the other. Looks like Jimmy playing with Radio Signals thru the air. So spacey!!

hey Detrucci, thank you for bringing that, Dased and confused from the concert is probably too long (although Jimmy Page plays a violin bow on an electric guitar has something) but honestly, I saw Led Zeppelin live three times, but what really touched me was this concert film "Celebrations Day" 2007 in London, her first concert together after 27 years, with Bonzo's son as a drummer, I was skeptical, then speechless, then I cried. Yes, I know it sounds dramatic , what I want to say who you have the opportunity to listen to, do it, you will like it (by the way, my absolute favorite piece of them is "In The Evening" because I always drive serpentine lines on the street, I now apologize for this litany, think it's great that you like LZ, greetings from Germany

the skill they had stemmed from the talent demanded of studio musicians which Page and Jones were...they played for hours a day...with any musicians...after a while you get so good you have a 6th sense to the others...Bonham was a genius....Plant was raw talent and an extrovert which was his biggest asset..he had no fear
