There was a lot of controversy between Mattel and Aqua back when this song came out. But as a 30+ year doll collector, I've always loved the song, and it's great to see it paired with the visuals of this trailer. The opening of the trailer of Ken saying Hi Barbie, and her responding back, Hi Ken, is a VERY obvious reference to the song which I appreciate. So glad the film is doing this "Life in the Dreamhouse" take on Barbie and not making her a "real" person who happens to be named Barbie.
I always thought that's what that tyra banks movie was (barbie irl), although I can't remember if they referred to her as barbie.. its been a while since I watched it
@@Morganhain no, Tyra played a doll named ‘Eve’, though she was clearly meant to be very similar to Barbie in both aesthetic and marketing. The sequel to Life Size actually revealed that similar to this movie, all the Eve dolls also lived in their own little universe.

@@saurianscapes2805 it's just a small dialogue it's fine. But this song isn't a Barbie song but it's more like a Parody. It has lines like Undress me everywhere, Bimbo Girl, life is plastic. It mocks Barbie and it's exact opposite of what the movie is doing. The movie portrays her as a Hero who is on a Adventure. You can't combine these two it would be ridiculous. It's like DC is making a serious Batman movie but also puts a song in it which makes fun of the Dark Knight.
I bet after listening to Aqua's "Barbie Girl", there's a person who was born after the year 2000 that will say that it's amazing someone made a song after the movie "Barbie".

The execs at Mattel should adopt the Aqua theme song of Barbie Girl for their movie. It's a hit that's synonymous with the toy line. The lyrics may be sexual, but what isn't nowadays.

If the lyrics were to be tweaked, this would definitely be a hit, no matter your age. All people really, and truly remember is the melody, the music, and I’m a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world, life in plastic, it’s fantastic.

Oh I’m sure they will slip it in there somewhere. Mattel isn’t making the movie they have a director permission to use the Barbie name and brand for a script.
There’s nothing said that Mattel told them they couldn’t use the song.
Mattel would be smart to just require royalties when the song is used or played because it’s already the Barbie anthem it’s connected weather Mattel likes it or not so they may as well ride the wave of its popularity.
