True story: when I saw Barbie in theaters and we got to the part where everyone goes silent after Barbie asks the death question, a little kid in the audience said “what?” and that just made this scene even funnier.
As a wheelchair user I am so grateful they added one in the movie for the dance scene when I am down sometimes I’ll put this song on and try to follow it.
There is SO MUCH going on in this scene. The showcases the utopia of Barbieland, where women of all kinds are included as equals. It establishes the one sided relationship with Ken and her indifference to him, while also showing the rivalry between the Kens (and the Kens are all wearing the same thing (except for Alan), while the Barbies are in their own individual dresses. It shows a society of women dedicated to picking each other up. When Barbie is told she looks beautiful, she responds that she FEELS beautiful because there are no mirrors in Barbieland. So Barbie only knows she’s beautiful because other women tell her she is. It’s a great little showing of lifting each other up. The lyrics to the song tells about a woman in emotional pain who hides it in order to put on a good face and not ruining the fun, which is what happens to Barbie in this scene. It’s just so fun to watch!! Fantastic film!
Watch it again and you'll see each of the ken's outfits are all slightly different and they each wear them slightly different. However, the women's white and/or gold outfits are all a little more varied in comparison. That's not much different than modern fashion, where men's suits are all far more similar to each other in structure than women's dresses and outfits for the same event in comparison. Everyone is wearing the same theme colors.

Obvious I know, but the real detail that shows that the Kens were at the bottom of the food chain is the fact that the K on their sweatsuits are in Comic Sans.
She is a brilliant actress the whole time I thought she looked familiar and couldn’t place it but she played Harley Quinn in suicide squad I did not put it together until I looked back! That’s how you know someone is talented when they Can change their voice completely and persona they don’t play the same Charecter in every movie
Of the various different references I've heard mentioned in that dance party, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned something that reminded me of "American Bandstand." When there was a cool fat girl on the dance floor, she would always get just as much camera time as any hot girl.
He was in the Mickey Mouse Club and did the kid star circuit, including Star Search. My goodness, so many young haters on TH-cam. He and the rest of the actors were PERFECT in what you all consider imperfections.
