Ustad Ranbir Singh Demonstrates Rapid Bowing for Dilruba

- During the Raj Academy Gurmat Sangeet Camp/Retreat I managed to catch Ustad Ranbir Singh and ask him to demonstrate something he showed us earlier in the day. He was generous enough to let me film him. Make sure you watch to the end (sorry about the less than perfect sound).

like always ......it is great.. listening to him......i learnt a lot from videos.. thanks to mike sir for sharing this video with us........i wanna share something with you in a very humble way....its rapid bowing but in Indian Classical Music it is known as 'Jhalla' which means a composition characterized by rhythmic component in a fast paced continuously increasing tempo until tihai comes or any end. It is also played after jor alap by sitar players

good for you, I can bow fairly fast, but with no where near the precision as Ustadji. You should upload a video, it would be cool to hear you play.
Thanks for watching - the instrument that Ranbir Singh is playing is called "Dilruba" it is a type of bowed instrument originally from the Punjab region of India/Pakistan created in the 18th century for performing liturgical music of the Sikh religion. Now, the instrument is enjoyed all over India, Afghanistan and beyond. Ranbir Singh (the man playing in the video) is one of the instruments current masters. All the best!

Tenth Sikh Guru around the late 17 century
The story behind it was that one day hearing a peacock he wanted to imitate it and thus created the taus(translation:peacock) during the battles his warriors said the taus was too big to be carrying around on a battlefield so can you make something smaller. Satguru ji created the Dilruba (the one who steals hearts) as a more practical for battle, more manoeuvrable version of the taus

I have a question, if I may. You beautifully demonstrated speed on the right hand / bowing. What can be done (in the way of exercises and techniques) to speed up the left hand technique?
