I'm sorry but Geno Smith wasn't good anywhere he went until last year. Should the Jets have hung onto him for 9 years just waiting for him to turn it around? That's absolutely ridiculous.

A lot of QBs are given up too early on. Fans called for Rex Grossman's benching in the preseason after the Bears went to the Super Bowl. The team had the second most improved offense in the NFL and he was the only significant addition. The team ahead of them was the Saints, who had their new coach Brees and their new coach Payton.

The Bears should have played Kyle Orton instead of Grossman in the Superbowl loss to the Colts. Orton got them to that game...Grossman was "injured". Dumb move. Same can be said of the 49ers using Kapernick over Alex Smith. Smith is a much better QB...had too learn a different offensive scheme every year. And the list goes on....

Geno wouldn't be the player he is today without sitting behind Wilson for so long. He benefitted from being coached in an excellent system while having no pressure on him to win for years. This isn't a shot at him though. He never gave in to the idea of being just a backup for the rest of his career and worked towards an opportunity at a starting job he may have never had a chance at had things gone differently. He's truly become a mature and balanced player that gives his absolute all at every opportunity because he knows what a blessing it is to have it. He believed in himself to succeed when just about anyone else would have given up and it shows every time he's on the field. Geno may be one of the greatest comeback stories of our era and he's definitely not done improving. There may not be another QB who knows exactly how special his opportunity is and how quickly it can be taken away. He's a true team player and he's grateful for every second he spends on the field. If this guy can win a championship someone better make a movie because stuff like this doesn't just happen.

To me, the category should have been about the "never was" QBs like, for example, Cleveland sticking with Mike Phipps for five full seasons in the 1970's b/c he was the third player picked in 1970 and had a lifetime passer rating in the '40's.

They went nowhere obviously but the first time he got injured and the "leaders" blew it up, and gave the dude a terrible o line and 1 person to throw it to reliably a year, wooo yeah f that guy for doing what he did.

@@NAT-turners-Revenge he was drafted by the jets. He struggled with New York his entire career. He’s the one that “famously” said, “I’m seeing Ghost” during a game when he threw an interception to a defender when there was no receiver anywhere near the defender. The last couple of games of the last season he was with the jets he played the best games of his career. Because he played so well the jets lost the #1 overall draft pick and the chance to draft Trevor Lawrence who went to the Jacksonville Jaguars; New York went with Zack Wilson instead. A few sports analysts said that New York should have stayed with Sam Darnold at least one more year to see if Sam’s performance wasn’t a fluke. He went to Caroline Panthers and he did really good the first half of the season. A lot of analysts believe it was because of Christian McCaffrey, but in the beginning of that year they looked like a team to beat.

I disagree on the Matthew Stafford comparison mainly because he won a super bowl as soon as he got out of Detroit. I'd call him a very good, not great, but very good. Quarterback that just wasted away in a bad situation. I'd bet money we are about to see the same situation with DeShaun Watson, he is very talented but there can be no success in a franchise ran that poorly. It was looking like that was going to happen with Trevor Lawrence under urban Meyer as well. Thank goodness people realized that and changes were made.

Be careful, whenever you talk about Brett Favre, you need to preface everything with "Allegedly" otherwise his lawyers might get to you. Here's an example:
    - Brett Favre was ALLEGEDLY selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2nd round in 1991
    - Brett Favre ALLEGEDLY went on to revive a Packers franchise mired in over a decade of irrelevance
    - Brett Favre ALLEGEDLY led them to 11 playoff appearances, 2 NCF Championship wins, and a Super Bowl Victory
    - Brett Favre ALLEGEDLY won 3 MVP awards and ALLGEDLY retired as the all time leader in Passing Yards, Passing Touchdowns, and Quarterback wins
