    I have somehow made it back to this video and watched all of it before seeing I had commented on it 6 years ago...
    my comment was : "was that song at the end and the artsy camera work necessary lol"
    however, 6 years older, I have to apologize and I am truly sorry because that ending was magnificent! bravo @Commandodesigns !!!

    Really cool effect, but whats the quality like with water just chillin' under the paint?

    • @Commandodesigns

      +Julian Morris Petrevski The water evaporates completely so there is no remaining moisture under the paint.

    • @seemeatthezoo

      +DaZeD Merlin There are no air pockets. The paint bonds to the surface. The water will dry and you are left with the paint in the shape of the water droplet. Awesome effect.
      A friend airbrushed a similar design on one of my bikes. Black base, with yellow water drops. Got the water to run down the tank so the yellow ended up looking like it was running down the tank.

    Unfortunately, our planet is doomed because there are obviously very few parents teaching their children manners these days. I'm absolutely disgusted with the amount of negative comments this video got. This man was only trying to give useful tips to people interested in this art. If you don't like it, watch another video. Do any of you remember the phrase, "If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all"?
    Everyone these days thinks it's okay to tear other people down "just because", but the second someone tears you down, you get offended. It's very disturbing.
    Sir, I don't know you and I am not an artist, but I appreciate your willingness to be helpful and teach others what you know. On behalf of all decent people, I apologize for those that know no better. Have a great weekend!
    And for anyone who is going to sink any lower than you already did when making your initial rude comment; grow up and have some class.

      I just had a tiny bit of my faith in humanity restored by you, I came here to do this for a guitar and was absolutely disgusted by the amount of negativity. Maybe green just isn't quite the right colour, after all he did say that you can experiment with different colours. Kids need to learn some manners or once they're in the real world they're gonna learn their place the hard way.

      Guitar try a one color and go some gradients below your original color bv; Red and flow it to a gradient of orange depends on how deep you wanna go with it,need more depth try some gray/black (shadow) just like in this vid from one side spraying at the end of all spray 3 to 4 layers lack/vernis on it.The effect will superb!!
      Good luck.

      Ha... Thanks Nikki. It's just youtube. It's kinda like the wild west of public access tv. The more comments, negative or positive is usually a good sign you're doing something right. I''ve talked to other youtubers and we kinda wear those terrible comments like a badge of honor. The more you get the more popular you're becoming. So don't sweat it. It doesn' bother me a bit. Besides they're usually pretty funny. Thanks for the kind words... Your awesome.

      Therealme while I do agree with what you said, I almost laughed at the "have some class" part. I'm pretty sure class is almost non-existent these days. And in my opinion most of the people that appear to have class are just faking it for some reason or another. Not saying that about everyone, just that it is rare to find most of the time.

    please just do a slow panning shot on the final reveal. that is the climax. different zooms and angles is ok. but a slow shot so we can see the detailed results. always good to take a still at the very end and leave it as a "final image" for several seconds as u close out the vid. -- I give u this advice bc I was frustrated that I didn't really get to see the final product with all the crazy editing at warp speed. GREAT tutorial however.. just trying to help u improve

I've seen a couple of your videos and this is the stuff of painting legends. Secrets and tips like this die with people, and you're actually sharing it. I wouldve never guessed to spray at a low angle like that. Thank you.

    I usually dont comment on anything, but all the negative idiots and their rude comments sort of hit a nerve. Im sure I'll be insulted as well after this. First of all, great tutorial and info. People forget that videos like these arent directed at those who already know how to any of this stuff. So if youre already a paint expert and the best out there, dont watch this. Go make your own video and teach others instead of insulting this guy for an "ancient" technique or the way he talks. Theres always something to learn from other peoples methods.

      Jason, hello it's the internet, have we met? If the guy can't take (and i don't see him crying) the people saying it sucks then he shouldn't have made a video and put it on a website that allows opinions to be posted. Not one person that left neg comments needs to be an expert to say his job sucks..that's the great thing about OPINIONS.
      Now you, and everyone like you, can just dab a bit of desitin on yer bunghole then move along.. or not. {holding up middle finger in your general direction}

    I always put the object I'm spraying up on some kind of pedestals, like some spray can caps. That way dust from the table, or dried paint dust doesn't blow back up on the surface being painted. Also it allows to paint all the way down to the edge.

  • @peterliljebladh
    @peterliljebladh 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    First off. It turned out better than I imagined.
    What color did you use for the shadow? Just plain black? Is grey also an option?
    What's the secret to this effect? Does the paint simply sink down at the applied angle?
    So after painting both angles you just let the waterdropplets dry out?

    • @lepayen
      @lepayen 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Gridfull Yes, always. Okay, so they made it easier to mod games on a console, until a console does everything a regular computer does, it's still just a crappy console. Your pc gets outdated, you get new parts and upgrade it. Your console gets outdated, you have to fork over $1000 for the latest console. Your console stops working, you have to fork over another $1000 for the latest console, your PC stops working, you replace a part for under $100 or buy a brand new one for around $400.

    • @tylerneal7774
      @tylerneal7774 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +lepayen consoles cost $1000? and you can but a gaming pc for $400? sorry I think you have that backwards

    • @lepayen
      @lepayen 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I have it quite correct. You can buy a core i5 computer tower brand new at The Source in Halifax for under $400 with 6 to 8 gb of ram in it, then you can get a 2gb graphics card on ebay for $20 to $50 which would make it a really decent and fast gaming computer. Hell, my computer is nearly as fast as them and I only have a dual core with 5gb of ram and a 1gb graphics card. Every console when it first comes out costs $800 to $1000 or more. If you don't believe that, you haven't been going around when the consoles come out. It doesn't take much to turn a $300 to $400 computer into a super fast gaming rig.

    • @tylerneal7774
      @tylerneal7774 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      lepayen I have never seen a console over $500 and I do alot of gaming on Console and pc and to have a have way decent gaming pc you spend no less then $800 I think you haven't been around to buy consoles, and yeah a shitty pc can play some games. So sounds like you need to look around. Have a good day

    • @lepayen
      @lepayen 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      My shitty computer can play every game out there as it is. If I want to run the latest games with the graphics maxed, I just need a better graphics card. If you haven't seen a console under $500 then you haven't been shopping when they come out. After a year or 2 the price drops to around 500. Sounds like you're just an idiot.

    so I tryed this out with different paints. it does work but you can't use the fan tips from krylon, rustoleum has a more rounded pattern and works quite well for the color being painted over the water. but did get some cool effects from painting striaght down onto the water. and after the water evaporates its kinda smooth but enough clear coats will hide that leaving a smooth finish.

Have you ever seen a badass car that has the right motor dressed up looking like a brand new freshly minted coin with a bad paint job? Or one with a bad set of rims? That's what this paint technique is. Ya can't polish a turd and ya shouldn't put a turd on the polish. I could see some dude stuck in the year 1991 with his mullet pulling up in a old style gmc jimmy with that paint job rocking out to winger. That's why slapnutts got upset because he is "that guy"! I get the point about this technique of achieving water droplette affect using spray can paint. I appreciate his efforts. He mention he does not want the water to dry so what happened to the water after it was sprayed dust over? It looked lit the paint dried in shape, in science the water droplette were mold for paint? Water droplette are usually clear.

    Just wondering, once the painting process has been done, will the painted panel be flat to the touch or will it keep the bubbles of the water shape?
    How durable is this finish if a bubble was to be rubbed against will it damage the effect.

    BTW great tutorial!

    • @dogslobbergardens6606
      @dogslobbergardens6606 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      When the water drops are there the 2nd and 3rd colors of paint sit on top of the water beads. When the water evaporates that paint lays down flat. It results in a sort of shadow gradient effect. It all ends up flat; not textured at all. Clear coat and sand and buff and you can make it flat/smooth as glass.
      Flatness is actually the biggest limitation of this technique; it works best if the substrate is flat and level. On a curved surface the water wants to just run down to the low spots. It will work on a certain mild amount of curve - the water will stay put due to surface tension. But it can be tricky. Do a couple test runs on scrap before painting something important.
