+DaZeD Merlin There are no air pockets. The paint bonds to the surface. The water will dry and you are left with the paint in the shape of the water droplet. Awesome effect. A friend airbrushed a similar design on one of my bikes. Black base, with yellow water drops. Got the water to run down the tank so the yellow ended up looking like it was running down the tank.

Maybe green just isn't quite the right colour, after all he did say that you can experiment with different colours. Kids need to learn some manners or once they're in the real world they're gonna learn their place the hard way.

Guitar try a one color and go some gradients below your original color bv; Red and flow it to a gradient of orange depends on how deep you wanna go with it,need more depth try some gray/black (shadow) just like in this vid from one side spraying at the end of all spray 3 to 4 layers lack/vernis on it.The effect will superb!! And in my opinion most of the people that appear to have class are just faking it for some reason or another. Not saying that about everyone, just that it is rare to find most of the time.
please just do a slow panning shot on the final reveal. that is the climax. different zooms and angles is ok. but a slow shot so we can see the detailed results. always good to take a still at the very end and leave it as a "final image" for several seconds as u close out the vid. -- I give u this advice bc I was frustrated that I didn't really get to see the final product with all the crazy editing at warp speed. GREAT tutorial however.. just trying to help u improve
yeah i'd of liked that as well. As sick as this video is - im really not sure where this guy got his info - its probably a technique to be developed a bit more. His Xbox probably looked dope, but if u were making art or w/e u'd have to work with it a bit to get excellent results

This is great. Ive seen this on a few lowriders and quite a bit from my uncles Rod & Custom magazines from the 50s-70s. I've seen a couple of your videos and this is the stuff of painting legends. Secrets and tips like this die with people, and you're actually sharing it. I wouldve never guessed to spray at a low angle like that. Thank you.

People forget that videos like these arent directed at those who already know how to any of this stuff. So if youre already a paint expert and the best out there, dont watch this. Go make your own video and teach others instead of insulting this guy for an "ancient" technique or the way he talks. Theres always something to learn from other peoples methods.

I'm excited to give this a shot with some different color schemes. I imagine you could even pool the water into larger and smaller shapes to displace paint in other patterns. Have you ever tried using mineral spirits with the spray enamel for similar effects?

I always put the object I'm spraying up on some kind of pedestals, like some spray can caps. That way dust from the table, or dried paint dust doesn't blow back up on the surface being painted. Also it allows to paint all the way down to the edge.
First off. It turned out better than I imagined. What color did you use for the shadow? Just plain black? Is grey also an option? What's the secret to this effect? Does the paint simply sink down at the applied angle? So after painting both angles you just let the waterdropplets dry out?

You can see in the light when he does the close up that the paint is all flat and fired but all water is gone just leaving it looking wet....truly awesome!

Your console stops working, you have to fork over another $1000 for the latest console, your PC stops working, you replace a part for under $100 or buy a brand new one for around $400.
No, I have it quite correct. You can buy a core i5 computer tower brand new at The Source in Halifax for under $400 with 6 to 8 gb of ram in it, then you can get a 2gb graphics card on ebay for $20 to $50 which would make it a really decent and fast gaming computer. Hell, my computer is nearly as fast as them and I only have a dual core with 5gb of ram and a 1gb graphics card. Every console when it first comes out costs $800 to $1000 or more. If you don't believe that, you haven't been going around when the consoles come out. It doesn't take much to turn a $300 to $400 computer into a super fast gaming rig.

My shitty computer can play every game out there as it is. If I want to run the latest games with the graphics maxed, I just need a better graphics card. +Deathly Gamer (Anthony Yeo) my thoughts exactly, from the very beginning it was splotchy, i mean hes making an instructional video and he couldnt go to the hardware store and buy a can of green paint? and again when finished, it looked all splotchy, kinda like anything id have whipped up in my garage when i was a teenager, this technique has merit, but i doubt spraypaint is the way to go.
Yeah I would rather just do a custom three coloured paint job not anything like this garbage... I think he was trying to get the effect that it had water drops on it but really it looks terrible

After the last hit of yellow, did you let everything dry completely then spray the clear coat or hit it with the clear coat when it was still wet? Cool effect 😎
so I tryed this out with different paints. it does work but you can't use the fan tips from krylon, rustoleum has a more rounded pattern and works quite well for the color being painted over the water. but did get some cool effects from painting striaght down onto the water. and after the water evaporates its kinda smooth but enough clear coats will hide that leaving a smooth finish.
Heh, he went on about how important the angle is, then sprayed all three pieces in different directions. The face panel is sprayed from the bottom up, the right panel is sprayed from top to bottom, and the left panel is sprayed from front to back :P I'm guessing they repainted it or used another for the final shot.

We own a familly food /snak/restaurant and when we redid the paintjob years ago, the guy who did it used that technic for the whole interior of the shop, with blue, white and gold. The effect looks like a rainy summer afternoon its really cool.
I've never seen this effect before and I've done a lot of custom paint on bikes years ago, is this in the last 10 or 20 years or longer,......wonderful effects and very well done.
@AFX. this is just an example of what someone at home, hobbyists can achieve, I've used this technique on my technics 1200 turntable cabinets, the effect they give off is pretty sik and I'm always getting comments reflecting how good looking they are when I have people come over to guest mix on my show. kudos to this fella for teaching, what knowledge have you shared lately?
I think this is a cool effect for sure! Experimenting with different colors and maybe exaggerating the water drop size and making different sizes of drops a bit more would really make the water effect pop. But this certainly gives some great ideas!

I get the point about this technique of achieving water droplette affect using spray can paint. I appreciate his efforts. He mention he does not want the water to dry so what happened to the water after it was sprayed dust over? It looked lit the paint dried in shape, in science the water droplette were mold for paint? Water droplette are usually clear.
I wish I could post a pic of the piece I just painted. It turned out great! I wondered how it would look after the water evaporated, but the more it dried, the better it looked. Thank you for this! 👽✌️

I plan on using this awesome technique on a kit guitar I am building. Can someone tell me if I should stain and then do my poly coats before I do this or can I do it right on the stain. I worry about the wood absorbing the water.

Okay, looks pretty cool...So what happens later when you need to wipe some dust off it? I would think all the bubbles you made using the water would just flake off. Am I correct about that???
Just wondering, once the painting process has been done, will the painted panel be flat to the touch or will it keep the bubbles of the water shape? When the water drops are there the 2nd and 3rd colors of paint sit on top of the water beads. When the water evaporates that paint lays down flat. It results in a sort of shadow gradient effect. It all ends up flat; not textured at all. Clear coat and sand and buff and you can make it flat/smooth as glass. Flatness is actually the biggest limitation of this technique; it works best if the substrate is flat and level. On a curved surface the water wants to just run down to the low spots. It will work on a certain mild amount of curve - the water will stay put due to surface tension. But it can be tricky. Do a couple test runs on scrap before painting something important.
I loved this! I did mine with matte white as a base and matte black and chrome silver as the drops and it looks sick!! Thanks man! Love it!

+Deathly Gamer (Anthony Yeo) my thoughts exactly, from the very beginning it was splotchy, i mean hes making an instructional video and he couldnt go to the hardware store and buy a can of green paint? and again when finished, it looked all splotchy, kinda like anything id have whipped up in my garage when i was a teenager, this technique has merit, but i doubt spraypaint is the way to go.
Yeah I would rather just do a custom three coloured paint job not anything like this garbage... I think he was trying to get the effect that it had water drops on it but really it looks terrible

what happens after the paint is cured and the water evaporates? Are you left with an air bubble? would the air bubble crack and then flake off?

After the last hit of yellow, did you let everything dry completely then spray the clear coat or hit it with the clear coat when it was still wet? Cool effect 😎
don't even look like water drops, more like a orange peel texture that you would do on a wall or a ceiling

so I tryed this out with different paints. it does work but you can't use the fan tips from krylon, rustoleum has a more rounded pattern and works quite well for the color being painted over the water. but did get some cool effects from painting striaght down onto the water. and after the water evaporates its kinda smooth but enough clear coats will hide that leaving a smooth finish.
Heh, he went on about how important the angle is, then sprayed all three pieces in different directions. The face panel is sprayed from the bottom up, the right panel is sprayed from top to bottom, and the left panel is sprayed from front to back :P
I'm guessing they repainted it or used another for the final shot.

It doesn't take long. You can mix some rubbing alcohol with the water and it will evaporate faster.

We own a familly food /snak/restaurant and when we redid the paintjob years ago, the guy who did it used that technic for the whole interior of the shop, with blue, white and gold.
The effect looks like a rainy summer afternoon its really cool.

I've never seen this effect before and I've done a lot of custom paint on bikes years ago, is this in the last 10 or 20 years or longer,......wonderful effects and very well done.

@AFX. this is just an example of what someone at home, hobbyists can achieve, I've used this technique on my technics 1200 turntable cabinets, the effect they give off is pretty sik and I'm always getting comments reflecting how good looking they are when I have people come over to guest mix on my show. kudos to this fella for teaching, what knowledge have you shared lately?

I think this is a cool effect for sure! Experimenting with different colors and maybe exaggerating the water drop size and making different sizes of drops a bit more would really make the water effect pop. But this certainly gives some great ideas!

I get the point about this technique of achieving water droplette affect using spray can paint. I appreciate his efforts. He mention he does not want the water to dry so what happened to the water after it was sprayed dust over? It looked lit the paint dried in shape, in science the water droplette were mold for paint? Water droplette are usually clear.

I plan on using this awesome technique on a kit guitar I am building. Can someone tell me if I should stain and then do my poly coats before I do this or can I do it right on the stain. I worry about the wood absorbing the water.

When the water drops are there the 2nd and 3rd colors of paint sit on top of the water beads. When the water evaporates that paint lays down flat. It results in a sort of shadow gradient effect. It all ends up flat; not textured at all. Clear coat and sand and buff and you can make it flat/smooth as glass.
Flatness is actually the biggest limitation of this technique; it works best if the substrate is flat and level. On a curved surface the water wants to just run down to the low spots. It will work on a certain mild amount of curve - the water will stay put due to surface tension. But it can be tricky. Do a couple test runs on scrap before painting something important.
