    I love what you're doing! It's quite a niche topic, but I think when the keyboard world finds you you'll have plenty of success, because your ideas and video quality are already brilliant

    Would be great if it had a tiny display aside from the rotary encoder to show which layer it is on. Nevertheless a fantastic tool. Btw, I love your channel.

    A few questions from someone new to this. Is there a tutorial anywhere on how to solder the hotswap sockets? Also, would an Arduino Nano work in place of the Pro Micro? (I can change the model to fit it) Lastly, what specifications matter on the diodes, as the ones linked are not available in the US.

      @@inaudableyeh Afraid I did not. I ended up just changing my keymap and flashing that with that with QMK.

      It may be that the .json is not right. You can look at the documentation: get.vial.today/docs/encoders.html
      [
      { "y": 0.25, "x": 0.5 },
      "0,0

      e",
      "0,1

      e"]
      (I think the "x" "y" values will be different)

      on 2:20 you can see that the wire is bent over that pin a bit and i got that by mistake when making the diagram. I already updated that in the github page but its not possible to change the video.
      so yes it is B4

    What rotary encoder did you use for this? I can't seem to find any mention of it in the github repo or in this video.

    • @JanLunge
      @JanLunge  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you could qmk does support this, in the w65 i did add 2 rotary encoders. There are adapters to place rotary encoders into normal switch sockets if you want to add another to this case

      @@JanLunge Heyy, sorry I'm coming late to the question 😅.
      I'm creating a macro with 4 encoders, they way you wired yours is you are connecting 3 pins of the encoder to the board, (padA, padB and row I believe)
      In case of multiple encoders, how would that map out? I'm thinking maybe all the padA, and padB pins are connected within each other and to the board, and then each encoder is connected to a new column maybe? Not really sure how it would look like and how many pins each encoder takes, could you help me out with that please?

    • @JanLunge
      @JanLunge  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@julianbonomini5883 each encoder has 2 pads (pad-a and pad-b) and a ground pin for the rotation function pad a and b need to be directly wired to the controller and are used just for that one encoder so for 4 encoders you need 8 pins and one ground pin. The click of the encoders when you press them is just a switch with 2 pins on the other side and you can wire them directly or in a matrix with the rest of the switches that will decide how many pins are needed for them

      @JanLunge  8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Haha yeah you need to be kinda quick or it starts to burn, make sure your soldering tip is prepared I got some solder tip reactivator online which helped then the tip conducts the heat better. I usually put a drop of solder on the tip before i get near the plastic piece.

    First of all thank you very much for your videos. Thanks to them I was able to install VIAL on another macro pad (2x4 with encoder).
    I am having difficulties changing the functions of the encoder in VIAL, your folder would be very useful. I'm having a hard time finding it "3by2 Rotary" (I hope I'm not blind)
    Solved, "VIAL_ENCODERS_ENABLE = yes" not activated in the rules

    • @JanLunge
      @JanLunge  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you mean the firmware folder, it is now in github.com/wlard/vial-qmk/blob/vial/keyboards/wlard/w3by2 in the config.h you can find the encoder config + the keymaps/via/vial.json for the vial gui config
